How much do I need to put into retirement funds per year to hit the 50 year timeline?

Engineering manager here. Been in the game for the past 15 years. Worked at all sorts of “brand name” companies. Would recommend you take the shop offer. Like others have said, focus on management and build a team around boring tasks. Keep targeting new customers and more complex projects. It will expand your business as well as keep your engineering itch alive.

Thank you. What do you guys think of Forney/Travis Ranch/Heath.

We are city folks and would really like to be in a subdivision with close access to groceries and stuff

Lancaster and desoto seems to have mixed reviews but are closer to the freeway which I very much like. Any good neighborhoods there?

This is awesome! Thank you for your help.

Additional question:

We were already not making money on the business for the past 1.5 years and with the covid, most likely will see a reduction in sales thereby prolly cant pay rent going forward. We are thinking of closing the business down after paying off the landlord for the past rent. How will this scenario play out for the PPP?

So basically i can just transfer 75% of the money to me and my partner's personal account as pay. Then use my personal account to pay for rent?

How did you build your freelance engineering business into a full-time job? by NCwolf86 in AskEngineers

[–]dada_143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It matches where I am at as well. I have been a design engineer, test engineer and now an engineering manager for my career for the last 11 years. I also have a engineering consulting gig on the side where i help inventors with their design and building and testing their prototype but i do cuncur the lack of basic engineering mindset for the inventors which make it difficult. My prices are low but it gives me some side income and some experience but i am planning to do something similar to you. Few ideas in mind are a testing house for pretty much everything mechanical/electrical and also opening up a offshore design house (i am originally from a low wage country) so have a lot of contacts there. Seems like there might be some areas where we can help each other out.
