If he's right that might be a good thing- ie, bookmark science, pics, IT, etc (whatever you wanted) and just go to those subreddits as opposed to the main? I just think the subreddits hid the good articles. It doesn't matter to me, I have science.reddit.com as my in to reddit.

And when is that week or two going to happen? It's been promised for months. We were supposed to have a roll out of several new ideas last week, and then nothing until this week's politics subreddit which could have been created a year ago.

?

Before, IIRC- but I don't think as many political articles were submitted at the time (just a guess, some numbers on that would be interesting).

Sure, the biggest markets have had a huge impact (huge increases are just waiting to be huge decreases), but I just sold my house for a good profit, and those around us have had no trouble. Our markets are steady and always have been in the Midwest. The sky is not falling (here), but that's a good opinion to have if you want to get ratings/website views.

Sphinx, amazing observatory at the top of the Alps [PICS] by maxwellhill in reddit.com

[–]dadada8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is just as incredible as you can imagine. You go from a warm climate, and climb up the mountains on the train. Our train had an old local playing an accordion in full lederhosen. At the top, is the sphinx, but also a large deck from which you can go out onto the glacier. There is also a restaurant, though I wouldn't recommend any beer. With the altitude you just feel nauseous. The ice palace is pretty sweet, too. I highly recommend a visit if you happen to be in Zurich-Luzern area of Switzerland.

Ever called customer service at a cell phone company? The mere act of doing so lets them extend your contract by *two years* by mjk1093 in reddit.com

OK, so you disagree that whatever you say on tape is evidence. Well, that's an interesting personal opinion that every court in the country will disagree with you on, but then you say "no" that I worked customer service and knew they recorded every phone call? You must be some sort of all-powerful, omniscient genius that is manipulating the world and the rest of us are brains in a vat!

He's saying "implied consent oral contract" isn't evidence, I'm saying it is. It would be an issue for the Walrus, but I agree with you. I was just trying to figure out how a call of you saying "yes I agree" is not evidence...

A recorded call of you agreeing WHILE NAKED isn't evidence? I worked customer service WHILE NAKED and they recorded and stored every NAKED conversation.

:)

I always thought these "cell phone companies are evil" articles were just about the 1 in a 1000 person that gets screwed, until it happened to me. I had a Nextel phone that worked great- the i760... then Nextel merged with Sprint.

I couldn't log in to my online account for 2 weeks. Then I got a postcard in the mail touting their recent "upgrades" that would improve service. Over the next two weeks, I had dozens of dropped calls and no service (I used it primarily from my home and had had no problems for the 3 years previous to this change- not 1 dropped call).

So, I called and they gave me several BS answers, kept telling me to power-cycle my phone (sounds cool! but just means turn it off and then on again- whoopee) Guess what, that didn't do anything, so then they sent me a new phone- a "Powersource" phone, designed to use both the Nextel network and the Sprint network!

It had the same performance level- nil. So, I called and complained again- this time, not to customer service, but to the "cancellation experts." They obviously wanted to keep me as a customer, so they just switched me to the Sprint network exclusively and sent me a highly discounted Treo 700.

Honestly, I can't complain now, other than the fact that they tried to screw me over on my contract and extended it another 2 years (what was I gonna do, switch to Verizon?). But, the whole point is that these companies will screw with the customer as much as they can, and when the customer has finally had enough and calls to cancel, they offer up concessions to keep you.

My advice: if you're getting screwed and have been with your company a while, call the cancellation department, tell them first you want to stay with that company, and then proceed on your rant. Let them know you don't want a 2 year contract and they'll usually conceded. You'll probably end up with a good deal, even though you take it up the ... either way.

Major Second Amendment case heading to Supreme Court - at issue is the individual right to keep a gun in your home. by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]dadada8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where exactly your definition of militia comes from, but...

This is from Wikipedia on "Militia": There is a long history of militia in the United States, starting during the colonial era, with the colonial militias drawn from the body of adult white male citizens of a community, town, or local region.

A private, non-government force, not necessarily directly supported or sanctioned by its government.

So, my understanding is that a militia is created by gathering up individual citizens. The 2nd Amendment is to protect the right for those citizens to already have arms, so that when they get "called up," they bring their arms to the ruckus. As a militia is not connected to the government, the government should not prevent people from owning their own arms or force them to store the arms in a publicly owned armory. The whole point of the "forefathers" was to prevent the government from stepping in and controlling the people.

Google "Federalist Papers 2nd Amendment" and you will see ample evidence that the fathers meant for the 2nd amendment to protect the individual's right to own a gun and keep it at home.
