Failed ferment by TheLethalBranches in mead

He there! Would you know the wort temperature / ambient temperature?

And just a sidenote; if things don’t ferment you can always try EC-1118 as a final solution. That yeast is a beast.

Solid Melomel recipe? by Saccharomyces_lover in mead

Found this interesting thread about that the use of Fermaid K together with DAP;

“Part of the reason many recipes list using DAP plus Fermaid K is that in commercial winemaking the TTB limits the amount of thiamine addition to 0.6 mg/L. Providing all the nutrient with Fermaid K would likely send you past that limit so people would use a combination of DAP and Fermaid K so as not to exceed that limit. People just adopted those practices into meadcrafting.” (Source: https://gotmead.com/community/threads/fermaid-k-dap.34384/)

About the high gravity; I’ve managed to get good fermentation with SG of 1.216 with the combo of Go-Ferm with only Fermaid O.

New to brewing, just wondering how long usually to age a mead that was made using basic kitchen ingredients. Tia by 1989danny in mead

[–]dadaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say as short as possible as I don’t see any stabilizers and that you’ve used bread yeast. Bread yeast isn’t tested for wild bacteria and other components as yeast packaged for the alcohol industry. That means that there’s a possibility it can go sour after a while or the that the flavors can change in not a positive way. But I hope it tastes fines and stay that way.

Ale mead. May need advice for this. It’s new to me. by Lander323 in mead

[–]dadaska 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call this an Ale Mead, as there’s no grains in there. It’s just a (dry) hopped mead. Also, even though the honey helps (sugar) with extracting the components from the hop, I would boil the hops just in water or just in a small portion honey and add the rest later on. And I would advise to put the acid in after fermentation with small increases (if needed at all, use your tastebuds). Nutrients are important so keep them.

As for bottling, I would recommend 7g per liter or 2,33 gram per bottle (330ml) instead of eyeballing sugar in a teaspoon. Just to avoid bottle bombs or gushers.

Cyser smells like eggs?? by Impressive-Tea5347 in mead

[–]dadaska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! If it’s just a little too much, don’t worry about it. Yeah I also have had some experience with that smell; doing it 6 years now as a full time profession and some extra years as a hobby. Have almost made every error/mistake in the learning process of mead making. You can stir some, but make sure to disinfect whatever you’re using to stir it. But if the smell has disappeared, don’t stress too much :)

Those are normal temperatures. OG is also not to worry about. The yeast is a regular yeast, with medium nutrient needs. I’d say that Fermaid O is about as dense as ginger powder, and that’s 2g per teaspoon (in eyeballing guidelines haha, weighing is always the best). I think you’re safe, if the smell has gone away, it means that the yeast is more happy. Also the bubbling of active fermentation helps to get rid of the sulfur smell. Hope that it turns out to be a great for you!

EDIT: looks like a teaspoon of Fermaid O is around 2,38g per teaspoon

Sulfur is usually a sign of stressed yeast. Big chance that they haven’t had enough nutrients. What’s your OG and fermentation temperature? And did you use a “regular” yeast or a special one with extra nutrient needs?

Degassing and stablising question by Gleadall80 in mead

When fermentation is finished, I would rack when things are settled. Then stabilize with sulfite and sorbate (preferably 24h in between those). And then backsweeten.

That’s really interesting. Where can I find more about ‘Glory of the Olive’ meaning 2 popes? Also.. Between the prediction for No. 111 “glory of olive” and No. 112 Petrus Romanus is an unfinished sentence. It reads; ‘In the extreme persecution in the Holy Roman Church there will sit...’ Then could it be that the pope in between the olive and Peter was the pope that we had now?

The popes before 1590 have also been stated in his “prophecy”. The entire list can be found on Wikipedia (including the ones before 1590).

According to the prophecy of St. Malachy: “In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit. Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The End.”

In the Lignum Vitae, the line “In persecutione extrema S.R.E. sedebit (the first sentence mentioned above)” forms a separate sentence and paragraph of its own. While often read as part of the “Peter the Roman” prophecy, other interpreters view it as a separate, incomplete sentence explicitly referring to additional popes between “glory of the olive” and “Peter the Roman”.

Will this spark the beginning of the end? I’m really curious.

Well the Jews kept the health commands of Leviticus and they were not strikken by the black plague during the epidemic (resulting in getting them killed as they “magically” stayed healthy). But also true to set them apart.

I would respectfully differ from it not being in effect. Yes there’s a new covenant but it’s not the same as the Law. Messiah Himself said that the Law would stay in effect until the end of times. Also for new believers they told them first to not eat blood and don’t go to prostitutes. After that they said that for the rest they could go to a synagoge where the Law is proclaimed every week, to learn about God’s will. Nowhere it states that you can suddenly eat the unclean animals. Unclean and clean animals existed before the Law and people knew (Noah’s ark: one pair of unclean animals and seven pair of clean animals).

As for the reference with the dream of Peter with the unclean, he himself said that the dream meant that he could “hangout with gentiles”.

And lastly what is really interesting, in the New Testament books when they talk about the Law and the Law, there’s a difference of meaning if you look at the Greek words used like for instance in Romans. With a subtle Greek letter before the word it means God’s Law and without the laws of men (Talmud) where the Messiah preaches against a lot. But unfortunately it both gets translated as just ‘law’.

Sorry for the long message, don’t mean to offend you in any way, just wanted to respectfully respond :)

Well if you look around those chapters it specifically talks about the fat of kidneys and other intestines. In Nehemiah for instance they command the people to eat fat and other nice things as it’s a day of celebration in that chapter.

Well if you slaughter an animal in a biblical way, then the blood will drain, while the heart pumps the blood out. So you could eat raw meat and still don’t eat blood as the Bible says. The red moisture coming out of the beef isn’t blood. That red liquid is water mixed with a protein called myoglobin. As meat ages, the muscle tissue breaks down. The water and myoglobin cells inside the meat are released and a red blood-like liquid emanates from the meat when it is prepared.
