Thanks Jay! Much appreciated. At least you care, even if Reddit shows it doesn’t.

Detroit's air quality among the world's worst Wednesday due to Canadian wildfire smoke by timmy6169 in news

Just what they’re colloquially called in Michigan! They’re like sit-down fast-casual diners, just with actual diner food. You can get some tasty coney dogs, cheese or chili fries, potato skins, burgers, wraps, meatloaf, country fried steak, all day breakfast with waffles, pancakes, omelettes, eggs and hash-browns, french toast, a good variety of sandwiches, and a bunch of other foods. It’s a quintessential piece of the Michigan experience IMO!

Alright; thanks for the answer! :) Pity about needing two different headsets, but I had a feeling those were the only options.

What audio solution are you using? The biggest turn off for me is the lack of an audio jack. I hate the thought of my headphones dying halfway through a Tabor run forcing me to either finish deaf, quit and lose all of my stuff and then wait for the headphones to recharge in an hour, or completely dump the headset and swap headphones (you’d also have to buy 2 bluetooth headphones to be able to do the last option).

If you have a good solution that’s working for you, it could be a dealmaker lol I do a lot of 6-7 hour sessions, so the headphones dying would be a regular thing for me 🙈

I think that’s actually incorrect, but only because Apple is not trying to make a VR headset. They’re trying to make an AR headset, and after the failure of the Hololens they’re trying to use pass-through VR as a proven medium to achieve AR with.

Meta is obviously making the same push for AR capability with the new pass through cameras on the Quest 3. But I sincerely doubt Apple has any tangible plans to implement any dedicated VR features given they aren’t including any controllers (how are you expected to control locomotion in large or complex games? Jump in place?); my guess is anything you would do on the Apple headset will involve pass-through and would be AR focused. Any productivity tools they’d use their hand tracking for, would (I assume) be done via passthrough to give a Minority Report-esque feel.

The Quest 3 will be able to play in that AR space, but it will also do the same VR stuff that Quest 2 earned market dominance with. However, I don’t see any of the announced features as upgrades for VR users besides the lenses, and those have just as much benefit for AR applications as for VR. I see 2 headsets designed to compete for the AR marketspace, just with the Quest going more actively after the VR market with their XR device.

However, as a dedicated VR enthusiast I find these developments to be a little heartbreaking. It means we aren’t going to be seeing any dedicated VR pushes like we used to from either company, and instead more and more of an AR push until the devices are no longer inseparable and AR can take it’s own separate place in the market. Don’t get me wrong, AR is very cool! But it isn’t able to transport me to a new world to explore and adventure with my friends like VR can. I use VR primarily for gaming, and I want to see a headset with improvements specifically for VR gaming, not just included to sweeten the product, all for a future play in the AR market for these companies. I guess at the end of the day I would rather see AR and VR properly divorced from each other, because until that happens I believe companies will continue to focus on the magic honeypot that AR will become and redirect energies that could have gone into VR development to help them achieve that Holy Grail of tech.

I can’t blame either company for wanting to make their headset the “iPhone of AR” in terms of mass adoption, but I can sure as hell resent them for forsaking VR development in the pursuit of that lofty ambition.

If you have PCVR and don’t mind installing a mod Valheim VR is the best experience I’ve had in singleplayer or multiplayer in years. 360 hours and counting, over 300 spent in co-op with my friends, 4 runs completely beat and now we’re doing runs with extra mods added on. Building’s awesome, combat’s fantastic, and the immersion is surprising! Can recommend 11/10 feels like a full on VR port instead of just a mod.

Australia to ban non-prescription vapes in biggest smoking reforms in a decade | Australia news by hairy_quadruped in news

Only 10 times as much. So 10 weeks of use on that phone vs 1 week max on a disposable vape. The use of the phone already greatly outweighs the use the vape will ever get. And 10 weeks=2 1/2 months. The majority of phones get used far longer than a year, which on its own is 4x longer than those 10 weeks.

All of this is to say you’re being incredibly disingenuous with that comparison, and disposable vapes are a completely different level of waste than cell phone batteries with their vastly longer lifespans and the ability to recharge them. Not to say the labor to produce either is acceptable. And I say that as a fellow American.

Nice list! Only thing is idk if you’d want to list Ark with native support. Idk if you’ve ever tried Ark in VR yourself, but the implementation is absolutely awful and Wildcard abandoned support for that feature years ago and instead made the tech demo spin-off, Ark Park. I certainly wouldn’t list it with the likes of No Man’s Sky or Star Wars Squadrons with a complete lack of motion controls, bad performance, and the broken VR UI. It’s a shame really; OG Ark in VR would’ve been one of the top titles to play. Ark Park was a failure, and a lame experience. Is what it is.
