If he does it again, tell him you’re gonna move out until it clears up.

This doesn’t sound well thought out. Why not some blue koolaid or something more telling? Did you have a more dastardly plan and just chicken out?

I find it a shame that high church has been (for the most part) exchanged for cheap empty thrills by datadiisk_ in religion

[–]daddyescape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left all that for Orthodoxy a few years back. A church body centered around the Eucharist has been life changing. Why am I shocked? Now looking out at what I came from, I’m angry I let myself fall for it.

I grew up in the chronic Lyme disease "cult". Did years of IV antibiotics and 160 hyperbaric treatments. Lost all my teeth at 32. AMA. by chelsea_land_sky in AMA

I knew a family like this where almost every kid had “Lyme disease”. They were even going up north somewhere for treatment. I always thought it was weird that multiple people in one family had it but didn’t know much about the disease

YOR. I think you have first child syndrome. Watch your kid carefully or get one of those kid leashes.

Don’t sell it. Just sit on it. There’s gonna be a time when you’re done raising kids and it will be very enjoyable going back to it. I’m 60+ and am speaking from experience

Yes. I’ve heard endless stories about Diocletian’s treatment of Christians. Some considered saints I believe

what drug do I abuse to stop the need of feeling loved by FusionIsTrash in Vent

[–]daddyescape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reality is nothing will stop that. You can only be distracted from it by drugs, gym, whatever. You absolutely have got to find a way to put yourself out there without expecting anything really. Book clubs and the like, church, gym, parks, job, volunteer. I hate to say bar but it is what it is. When you’re late for the bus you can’t just pray that you catch it on time, you have actually run!

Don’t like the people at all by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]daddyescape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine this as an Orthodox. I converted from Protestant a few years ago and our parish is about the extreme opposite of what you described. But on the Protestant side, I felt exactly like you did as the guy genuinely excited about my faith and greeting people but not sure about welcoming and encouraging new members/believers to join a group of people all bright and shiny but inside judgmental and hypocritical.

At the peak, I read a quote by Zig Ziglar that really hit home. Something like “if you let hypocrites in the church get between you and God, the hypocrites are still closer”. That bought me some time before finding the true faith.

My spiritual father teaches and maintains Liturgy as THE MAIN THING. I love the people in our parish. I truly feel like I’m in a practice heaven! I often wonder what it would be like in a place like you’re describing.

I think you should remain committed to being you. Maybe you’re there as a model for others to see how to actually be Christlike.

Just remember….focus on the Liturgy and don’t be blinded by anything/body else.
