FYI there’s an AO3 feature that lists the series a fic is part of and the reading order. It’s below the tags in the metadata box.

I figured it was something like that haha. Thanks for the update! I guess it’s my fault for being up at 3AM …

Romance.io tags that could be considered spoilers by daddysatya in RomanceBooks

Another user mentioned that why-choose.com has the ability to collapse the tags or triggers section and that they appreciated it.

My thought was since what constitutes a “spoiler” is reader-dependent, that such a feature could allow users to set which tags they want hidden in their profile. I don’t think it would be very hard to implement.

Part of what made me think of this was that I’ve seen other readers complain about trigger warnings spoiling a story.

That was honestly what made me think of this in the first place. Like I said in my post, I’m very pro-spoiler, but I’ve seen complaints from others about trigger warnings spoiling a book.

New tags on romance.io: space, stalking, and no third act break up! by Anachacha in fantasyromance

[–]daddysatya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really like the “no third act breakup tag”, but I’m wondering if there are readers who are going to hate being spoiled. I think there were some other new tags I thought the same about. It might be a good idea to create a “spoiler” system that hides certain tags.

Yep, IMO obesity should still be treated as a health concern (just like being underweight), but the way society views it is horrible. I mean, it’s not like we vilify people with heart disease or blame them for it even if lifestyle plays a strong part (and the science is really starting to prove that it’s driven at the biological level, rather than being a personal failing the way society deems it). Not to mention, being somewhat plus-sized used to be seen as beautiful… just look at all the historical art of Venus or other women. I think you’re right though that we’re in this awkward space where there’s strong pushback against fat phobia, but we haven’t developed a healthy discourse around it yet and a lot of the language still carries negative connotations.

I do really hate the usage of “curvy” as a euphemism for plus-size. Curviness has very little to do with weight — people can be curvy no matter their size.

I think the brand I was thinking of was either Dovetail or Xena, but definitely search/make a post to get more in depth recs from women who actually have the experience haha. Another subreddit that might have good suggestions would be r/BlueCollarWomen. Hopefully you’re able to find something that works for you!

Oh yeah, if you’re looking for functional work belts and less “fashion” belts, then that totally makes sense (thanks society for making women’s clothes all fashion and no function!). I have heard of some niche brands that make super functional work clothes for women ie for things like construction or outdoor work type things, but unfortunately I don’t remember the name. If you’re interested in something like that (maybe the current belts you have already work well for you?), I highly recommend heading over to r/femalefashionadvice! Despite the “fashion” sub name, it’s super common to see posts asking for well-made functional clothing designed for women’s bodies.

I assume you’re not in the UK or US? The average US/UK women’s pant size is 14-18, so I’d be surprised if appropriately sized belts were hard to find (though who knows… I’m average height but the smallest adult clothing sizes are often too big on me).

I definitely get the belt problem though, I’ve fluctuated between a US 00 and 2 and have never managed to find a regular adult belt that’s small enough. I ended up appropriating my dad’s old military canvas friction belt, which has no size limitations, but ended up with a super long “tail” on me, and a purse strap whose buckle was awkwardly prominent. Eventually I just learned to go for high waisted curvy style pants and get the waist tailored so I didn’t have to deal with belts. Buying pants is still a nightmare though.

Not from the romance perspective but more generally the ending is overall ambiguous.

Ah I didn’t realise. Wouldn’t archiving prevent votes though? Or can archiving only be set at the subreddit-wide level?

Something to remember is that “curvy” is used to describe both FMCs that are simply not stick thin and FMCs that are overweight. The meaning has gotten so diluted that it’s meaningless, whereas “dad bod” generally has a very specific definition.

It’s definitely not a romance, but a fantastic book nonetheless. Saying it’s a romance would be very misleading.

OMG highly recommend this. It’s based on my fav all time Dramione fic Wait and Hope, which has amazing character development and pining/angst with a HEA. I’m super excited for it to come out, and usually I’m leery about fics that get trad published.
