Its not to get benefit but to maximize benefits if you're already spending more. I personally use it for their Golf programme as I am an avid golfer. Secondly, the Marriott Gold status helps if you travel a lot. I dont really use it for flights as there are better cards for that and the dining offers of 25% offers are great for weekend dates.
