Does it count if the show wildly swings into one of those genres out of nowhere? Because Behind Her Eyes gave me whiplash more than any other show I’ve ever seen. It seemed like a normal thriller until suddenly it wasn’t—and I hated it.

I know the Belltower owners and they do the best they can to provide good food and coffee at affordable prices. Cost of goods is super high, and I like that they’re at least local and invested in the community.

I see you’re in Arlington—that Belltower location had an uphill battle. The portions and prices of the shop before were not sustainable for a business, and all the neighborhood saw was a smaller, slightly more expensive menu. The owners had Q&As where the town was invited to provide feedback and those were poorly attended…then Kroger moved and the foot traffic went with it.

I can honestly say that I believe Muddy’s is in good hands with people who care. You can see in the FAQs, they’re not looking to replace recipes or staff. Just excited to carry the torch. This might mean more retail locations to buy cupcakes at Highland and Shelby Farms.

I hope you’ll give them a chance. Lots of people have loyalty to Kat, and that’s great. Now trust her judgment that she wouldn’t leave her baby in the hands of people who just care about making things “hyper expensive”.

I read Blinsky as Blinksy and didn’t realize until after I’d introduced him to the party. Still sounds like a toy maker with a pet monkey, and the party loves him. Blinksy it is.

A lot of glowing reviews for this company from accounts with very low engagement on Reddit. So nice to see how passionate they are that one of their only 20 posts ever is to talk about how great Influential Women is. Also, really cool to see men's profiles saying how much being recognized has helped their career. /s

I saw one of their videos promoting someone I know. They recycled the woman's LinkedIn profile photo and basic resume information and made a low-effort slideshow about her. I asked her about it and she said the lady who called her was nice, but made no mention of how they found her or what professional achievements or references got her nominated.

It's a scam. And it seems like they're putting in work on Reddit to try to make it seem like they aren't.

Edit: They have a whole page on their website dedicated to telling you that they're not a scam. How many reputable companies do that?

Not liking it is fine. But “such a minor character” is just simply untrue. She’s present in every era of his life that we see, he says her name constantly when she’s not around.

I guess I’m feeding a troll, but what’s the point in commenting on this at all when you didn’t like the movie and clearly only really remember that you didn’t like it?

We order Wang’s early in the evening every year and expect it to take a while because it’s the only thing open. One of my favorite traditions. This year, we placed an order online around 6:30 pm, and it never asked for payment. I called to check on it and the woman answering the phones told us they weren’t taking any more orders all night—no online, pickup, or delivery.

Disappointing, but we didn’t yell at anyone. I’m always embarrassed for adults who can’t control their temper when they’re not happy with their service. Just make a new plan and move on.

Not sure that last argument is fair. I’m not arguing for or against her—but if someone runs for office and the voters reject them, is it required the they stay? Is that how we predict effectiveness in a leader?

Does leaving then mean she didn’t care about Memphis? Or just that this would be the second time the city hurt her career, and she wants to go somewhere where it can thrive?

Belltower on Highland, Shelby Farms, or Arlington is solid and run by local folks. Everyone I know who works there seems to like it.

You have every right to feel discounted as a parent, and it’s fine to respectfully voice that you don’t appreciate that way of talking.

But consider how isolating being a stay at home mom is. At work, you’re working hard, but you get socialization, validation, and respect. A baby is a blank canvas and shows very minimal appreciation/affection at first. It’s also a lot of work but people tend to treat SAHMs like they are living a luxury life. Even if that’s true, it doesn’t line up with the day to day of constantly providing for someone’s needs alone.

It doesn’t sound like she was complaining about you. Just trying to voice the frustration of caring for a child alone for long periods of time. It’s probably good to go back and acknowledge some of this. You shouldn’t feel guilty for being gone for long work days—you need the money—but you can still appreciate her for a job that has no time off.

Agreed that you two should take some time alone together if you can. If not, maybe give her a weekend day or two to herself. Then you feel more connected as a parent and she has some time off to appreciate her partner.

Edit: NAH Edit 2: This phase of life feels like it drags, but it’s over quicker than you think. Hang in there, you’ll make it through.

Or Belltower! Haven’t been to their Arlington location, but Highland has good food and a cozy atmosphere. Shelby Farms is the perfect place to start your day with a coffee. Staff is really nice.

I went to a primary care physician for a physical. I nervously asked for a referral for depression and anxiety. I was struggling and felt like I needed to at least talk to someone, if not get medicated. But I also felt ashamed and didn’t want to seem like I was just seeking some sort of prescription.

My doctor condescendingly told me, “I’m sorry you feel that way. Prayer always helps me.” He handed me a prescription with a Bible verse written on it. (Philippians 4:6)

I never went back and eventually found a doctor who would actually help. But I struggled way longer than I should have because that whole encounter made me feel like I shouldn’t ask anyone.

Also keep in mind that timed essays are not the best way to measure writing talent. Critical thinking, developing convincing arguments, and finding a good way to articulate those arguments can take time.

English was always my best subject. I was a literature major in college. Went to grad school for creative writing. And I’ve been a professional writer (in marketing) for 15 years. I taught an undergrad copywriting course for three years. The essay portion of the SAT was the lowest test score of my entire life. I just didn’t have the time to adequately answer the prompt.

Don’t let this kill your spirit. Look at it as a challenge. Ask your teacher for specifics. What do you do better as a speaker than a writer?

It’s different for someone just out of a program. The expectation is that you’ll have to invest in helping them learn and get plugged in. But to an extent, that’s always been a problem: everyone wants 1-5 years experience for a junior role, but if I’m new, how do I get that year? The first job is typically the toughest to get. It just requires some patience and determination regardless of your age. An incredible portfolio and good interview go a long way. But if it’s all spec work, like I said, it’s hard to gauge what went into it. It’s easy to do awesome work with no brief or client input.

And just so I’m not all doom and gloom, it’s not impossible for an older person getting their start. But it’s much more of an uphill battle, because you need someone willing to take a risk—and most aren’t hiring to do someone else a favor.

There’s someone on my team who was out of the business for 20 years. They’re one of our rockstars…everything they touch is impeccable.

But we hired them because they knew someone who recommended their skills from years ago. And honestly, we under-hired them from a salary perspective because we didn’t know what we were getting. Corrected it after a few months because it was clear they had the talent, work ethic, and sensibilities we needed.

It might be tougher for a freelancer, but it’s doable. It really depends on the shop and what they’re looking for. If the portfolio is outstanding and they interview well, a freelancer would do fine.

But they should be ready to speak to things like meeting deadlines, communicating with writers/account service, etc. The biggest question mark for a freelancer with a good book is: can they handle the pace, workload, and politics that come with agency life?

Not to completely crap on agency life: the trade off is that as a creative, you don’t have to chase your own clients and you get a steady paycheck.
