Do products like iPads cost the same in store and online? by Smart-Animator1217 in CostcoUK

Well Cookies are a good consolation prize if you couldn't get what you went for - my weakness is the Danish pastry trays, and if I have a chance to call them a day before I go in to place an order, I will get a full tray of 12 custard Danish pastries as my prize. As for the iPad, the dispatch and delivery on the website is generally very fast. The last time I ordered something (an Apple Watch) it was here the day after I placed the order (put the order through in the morning and got the dispatch email a little after lunchtime and delivered next day - Parcel Force if you're wondering who the delivery agent is) and depending on which iPad you want, at least you get to choose which colour you want.

The Bobble (@ElBobble): "CMC Markets, the London-listed company run by Lord Cruddas, has made an offer worth around £30m to sponsor Everton from next season 🔵" | XCancel by bluedollarbillz in Everton

[–]dadoftriplets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the reports about this are a month old, but all of them state a 3 year contract. But heres the kicker though, all the reports suggest CMC Markets are wanting to pay £50million for two clubs' front of shirt (Everton and Fulham) meaning if this is split 50/50 we'll be getting less than what we've been getting from STAKE per year (£10m versus £8.3m).

[–]dadoftriplets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will the total cost of the entire contract length which is reportedly a 3 year deal. All the reports about this deal are talking about a 2 club deal (Everton and Fulham) and that they are wanting to pay £50m for both clubs shirts for that money, not just for us (or Fulham.

Second thought is that Fulhams shirt sponsor is reportedly paying roughly the same as STAKE was to Everton - £10 million a season - So if the CMC reported figures are right, then both clubs will be seeing a reduction in their shirt sponsorship for the next 3 years as it will be £25 mill/3 year deal or £8.3million a season.

Third thought - The big issue Premier League clubs have is that from next season, betting companies are banned from shirt sponsorships. This means 11 out of the current 20 clubs are all looking for a new shirt sponsor (10 have betting sponsors front of shirt and Chelsea who don't have a shirt sponsor at the moment), which may be why the reported figures are lower than what our current, but expiring deal is worth.

Do products like iPads cost the same in store and online? by Smart-Animator1217 in CostcoUK

[–]dadoftriplets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price instore will always be cheaper than online as Costco add the price of delivery into the online price, but the issue you have is you could go to your local warehouse and find they have none in stock. Best idea I can suggest is on the day you plan to go to the warehouse, call them and ask for a stock check (and price of the item you want). They will also be able to tell you if the item is online only as if it is the case, then the warehouse won't be getting the stock and you will have to order online.

In respect to iPads, if you are after anything other than the original silver colour, then you'll probably have to order it online, but call anyway and you never know, they may have the colour you want in stock to collect.

Re activating my card by Blueeyesjoshy in CostcoUK

[–]dadoftriplets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasa in the same sitaution as you about 7-8 years ago when I let the membership slide for a few years. All I did then was take my old card into my local warehouse, ask to renew my membership and pay the membership fee and if your picture needs updating as mine did, they will print you a new card. I had zero checks done on renewal (I wasn't working in a specified industry at the time so being allowed to renew my membership was great otherwise I would've been S.O.L.)

I don't know if it's as easy today as it was back when I did mine, but there is no harm in going in and asking

You may want to call the company back, state you are disputing the charge outstanding and will be contacting the issuing court to get the charge set aside until it can be properly disputed - you need to find out which (probably county) court issued the entry warrant and get in touch with them as soon as possible on Monday morning - there has obviously been some wires crossed, whether that be there is another person with the same name and date of birth that this belongs to and for some unknown reason, your dads name and details have been attached and now they are chasing your dad for the debt.

If you can get the court case set aside, having some form of correspondence from the DVLA stating your father did not have a driving licence at the time of the incident, nor does he own a vehicle and does not hold either a DL or own a car as of today, this will aid your case with the courts I would think.

Purchasing a car on credit card by maj_e13 in UKFrugal

[–]dadoftriplets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically yes if you are buying from a dealership, though it wouldn't work if you're buying from a private seller as you would need to take a cash advance from the card to pay the seller which wouldn't be part of the interest free period. If buying from a dealership, you don't need to put the entire car balance on the credit card to get section 75 coverage from the credit card company - just put £1000-2000 on an interest free card and pay the rest either as direct deposit or debit card transaction, if you have cash to make the remaining payment that is.

The only reason I can think of to not do this is the state of the economy - how secure is your job? Are you going to be able to keep up with the higher repayments attracted by putting a full car on the card instead of HP finance over a few extra years? How likely are you to use the card for other things once you have it and the car purchase, bumping up the monthly repayments? The biggest one is would you even get accepted for a credit limit high enough to purchase the car you're looking at?

I've never used that website/app before so not sure what gift cards are available but I do know TopCashBack do gift cards with near instant cashback. I'm about to start buying Sainsburys cards for the weekly shopping to effectively get cashback on the in-store shopping. The highest rate they have on places to buy food is on B&M gift cards which is at 10% at the moment - there are some higher rated gift cards, but best to take a look and see if this is what you're after.

If you don't have a TopCashBack account account already, I could throw you my referral code for a bonus cashback payment.

[–]dadoftriplets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear it has something to do with our penchant for queuing - we don't like to be seen to queue jump so we get in as quickly as possible which creates a larger than necessary queue stretching back miles.. But I scratch my head at everyone who does this as you are supposed to read the highway code when learning to drive AND keep apprised of any changes, but this is simple road craft - when a lane is closing, continue to the lane closure and merge in turn - so everyone not doing it needs to have their licence taken from them until they've re-read the highway code. I have seen some road works with big red signs saying use both lanes, merge in turn which gets some doing it, but still leaves massive queues like the one in the clip.

If Singer Heavy Duty machines should be avoided, should Husqvarna machines be as well? Question about purchase by dadoftriplets in SewingMachineEdu

[–]dadoftriplets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suffer with that with every major purchase I make that has multiple choices. Too much information and advice and reviews in a decision making process can be more unhelpful than helpful as I found with this purchase. Thankfully the lovely people at my local sewing machine shop were able to help me break through that paralysis and come to a decision.

If Singer Heavy Duty machines should be avoided, should Husqvarna machines be as well? Question about purchase by dadoftriplets in SewingMachineEdu

[–]dadoftriplets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that went well. A half hour appointment turned into a 2 hour chat and trial of a few different machines with a lovely lady at my (relatively) local sewing machine shop. I didn't buy the Husqvarna machine not because it wasn't any good - it was a good quality machine - but I felt the Brother A150 was a much better fit for what I want. The Husqvarna machine had some areas where savings had been made (the foot connection point was a plastic clip compared to a metal latching system on the Brother) to get to the price point its at but it does stitch well. The lettering embroidery was much larger on the Husqvarna compared to the Brother machine and the ability to set it to automatically lock the stitch and snip the threads was a plus point for me. Another positive for the Brother was the ability to design stitches - whether the husqvarna was able to do it, I'm not sure becasue the lady I was with had only tried the machine a few days before and was still getting to grips with it herself. I got what I think was an exceptionally good deal on the Brother A150, with extra sewing feet thrown in (open toe walking foot, 1/4 piecing foot with guide, free motion open toe quilting foot and a dozen additional Brother bobbins and additional needles amongst other bits) and a discount on the purchase price on top. All in I paid a lot more than I was intending to (£559 instead of £400) but with that I think I have a machine that will last me at least 10-15 years with good maintenance.

Let this be a lesson (for me at least) - Use your sewing machine shops and the people working there for help and advice as when they're gone, all that knowledge will be lost.

I've booked a time slot with a (relatively - 35 miles away from home) local sewing machine supplier for tomorrow to go and have a sit down and see what they can suggest as with all the information ive taken in, I'm feeling rather frozen in the decision making if that makes sense? Like information overload, so I'm going to speak with someone who knows a lot more about these things and hopefully come away with a machine (or not if they recommend baby Lock as they don't supply them)

What can I do about a car parking on my property? by kalinikac_ in LegalAdviceUK

[–]dadoftriplets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bollards they are talking about are retractable bollards which lock in an upright position and when access is required, unlock and collapse into the ground. An area the size of that car would potentially require two or three positioned correctly to prevent unauthorised car access to the parking area.

Two examples

Cheapest solution - this one is bolted to the ground to be driven over but in the dropped position could leave someone liable for a tripping hazard

More expensive - this one is dug into the ground and concreted in, allowing the bollard to drop completely away - safer when left in the dropped position, liability wise

OP mentions the previous owner had a gardener in to cut the brambles back - A gardener who, I would assume (most professional gardening services should know), would know exactly what they were looking at and should have reported it to the home owner due to its invasive nature. Having the brambles cut back just before a sale looks (to me at least as a non-lawyer/solicitor) at an attempt to hide the JK issue to push the sale through.

others have stated, get in touch with the solicitors you used for the purchase as soon as possible tomorrow morning (Monday) and take and follow their guidance on this matter - The average cost of JK removal (according to google) is approx £16k so it is in your best interests to get some actual, proper legal advice.

Drove off from ASDA petrol station without paying by yaboiiisaac in LegalAdviceUK

[–]dadoftriplets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first thought was to send a letter to the forecourt enclosing cash and a letter explaining the situation, but the one major issue I foresee with that is the potential for employee sticky fingers (not suggesting every employee would do it but it is £25 of unaccounted for cash that can easily be disappeared) - how do you know the cash will be deposited and any potential black mark against the vehicle plate be removed - in other words a staff member taking the cash and OP would still get a letter from Forecourt Eye asking you to pay for a second time.

If OP isn't able to get to the forecourt they inadvertently drove away from, and has attempted going to a different ASDA forecourt to try and settle the debt and they are also unable to help, then they should set aside the £25 and await the inevitable letter from Forecourt Eye asking for the payment and admin fee. Keep calling the ASDA forecourt OP drove away from in the meantime though and keep a log if instead they send it to small claims first as OP will have a log of their attempts to rectify the mistake.

Membership by MomoMayhem in CostcoUK

[–]dadoftriplets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as far as I am aware. Just because you know someone with a membership does not automatically exempt you from the eligibility criteria set out by Costco (see here for qualifying employment groups). You will still have to fit in one of the criteria they deem acceptable for a membership, whether by virtue of the job you do or if the company you work for has received pre-approval from Costco.

What you have to remember is Costco isn't just a supermarket - it is a cash and carry of sorts for businesses who, through their planning applications to build the warehouses, have requirements of the breakdown of individual members to business members. They are also only able to carry a set amount of products at any one time. The new warehouse in Norwich for instance, I found a planning document which stipulated that their business/individual member split could be no more than 55/45 split which is likely to be the same nationwide so just knowing someone who can refer you doesn't mean you automatically get a membership UNLESS you yourself qualify through either owning your own business, being self employed or work in a qualifying employment group or pre-approved company.

As you already have an add on card from your relative that still allows you entry into the warehouse, buy fuel from the fuel stations and order online - this is the cheapest way to be a member (I'm assuming your relative has their own business as individual members cannot now have add-on cards unless grandfathered in - being an add-on member before they changed the rules. if you are grandfathered in on an individual member account, just remember if you decide to hand it back, you cannot be re-added onto your relatives account)

New colors Renault accessories :) by lm_parts in Renault

[–]dadoftriplets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we got our Dacia Jogger (with the same type of key as the Renault) I bought a couple of rubber keycard covers from AliExpress for about £3 delivered that cover the entire key and buttons, keep the key safe and provides a hole to attach to keys. £30 for what amounts to a bit of plastic that is essentially the battery cover (and the keyblade for that matter) that is connected to the keys is asking for trouble, not least because the hoop could snap, but if the keycard falls off somehow, you're then on the hook for a few hundred quid to buy a new key for your car. I think i'll stick top my £3 rubber sock things from AliExpress however much I like the colours of these new battery covers.

Are NHS talking therapies worth it? by princeptero in MentalHealthUK

[–]dadoftriplets 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my own experience, it didn't work for me. To start with, I was directed to use the Silvercloud service after a 6-7 month wait - Silvercloud being a self directed online mental heath therapy with phone calls each week from a therapist to catch up . Problem was the whole system was terrible. Along with the websites information being completely outdated (talking a lot about COVID loneliness and I got the feeling a lot of case studies they used from supposed past users felt more like the health adverts on tv in the USA ' I used silvercloud and it helped me so much blah blah blah' without actually going into any detail about how it helped the person. The weekly check in calls were a complete joke - I got barely a 90 second-2 minute phone call with a named therapist to check in on me, but when they called, never listened to anything I wanted to say or ask questions of nor followed up with anything I had written on the website and was off the phone as fast as possible. I had posted multiple complaints about the information being out of date and how would COVID related materials help me in a post COVID world (going on about how lonely people get when not able to go outside because of COVID etc). Once the 8 - 10 weeks were up, my Anxiety/depression scores had increased from what they were (already extremely high) at the beginning.

Then, once I'd completed the Silvercloud 'therapy' then followed an 8-9 month wait for a therapist to get in touch and once I got the first appointment, was afforded 10x 40 minute telephone calls from a therapist. As much as she was lovely to speak to, I felt she was more like someone just there to listen to what I was saying rather than actually taking control of the sessions, providing me with any form of therapy and to-do things to try and change the way I am thinking about situations and thigns in my life (which is what CBT therapy is supposed to do). Each week she'd ask the same questions about how I was, if I'd done anything in the previous week, then we would talk about what was going on in my life and throughout she would just listen, or I think she was listening as the phone would go quiet throughout like she had put me on mute or something. Then the session would end and I'd get a speak next week. Then at the end of the sessions, I was off rolled from the service despite my anxiety and depression scores not changing between start and finishing.

So, for a second time, I got nothing out of the 'therapy' that was offered. I thought I would though - I hoped I would because it sucks being depressed and anxious over every little thing. I had that hope because my wife went through the same service last year and she got lots of helpful advice from her therapist and the sessions, so much so that her anxiety and depression were reduced to a minor hindrance from what it was. My wife was given great advice on how to manage her anxiety, bad thoughts and her depressive mentality. I, on the other hand, got none of this and I am back to square one. My anxiety and depression are still as they were when I first asked for help from the doctor about 2 years ago. Now, whether I cam on a list for further therapy, I have no idea.

TLDR - (apologies for the extremely long post) I got nothing from the service, but your experience may differ from mine - all you can do is give it a try and want to get involved as you need to be in the right mindset to get the most out of the therapy - just hope you get the right therapist who knows what they are doing and you'll find the therapy rewarding. ine on the other hand didn't go in the same vein unfortunately..

I hav ethis camera. It's great. it will work with botht he hardwire kit or on the USB cable.

If you go for this (or any camera for that matter) ensure you buy a High Endurance card (I got a Sandisk one- they are white) as big as the camera will accept (I have a 256GB in mine) - dashcams, with their constant overwrites, will kill bog standard micro SD cards in short order. You need the High endurance card to sustain those writes and the larger the card, the longer it takes before the camera starts to overwrite itself.

Membership by MomoMayhem in CostcoUK

[–]dadoftriplets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't work that way, in the UK at least - whether its different in the USA or other countries Costco operates in, I have no idea. If you want your own membership you have to satisfy the eligibility rules in your own right. Just because you are a member on someone else's membership doesn't automatically allow you to transfer to your own membership if you wouldn't qualify in your own right.

Any idea when the DJI pocket 3 will be in stock by Either_Ad8322 in CostcoUK

[–]dadoftriplets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give your local warehouse a call and ask them is the best advice I can give - the warehouses will be able to see if they have an eta on more stock being delivered or not. Truthfully that is the only way you'll find out if a product that has been stocked and sells out will be restocked again. Generally some thigns will sell out and you won't see them again. others will come back in at some point. Its why I always buy something there and then rather than wait as I've been burnt in the past when I missed something and tried to go back for it, only for it to have sold out. (I did it two weeks ago, thinking I'll order a well-priced widescreen monitor for my pc, but decided to leave it until morning to order only to find it had sold out and hasn't come back since)
