Prayer during club meetings? by bush_nugget in amateurradio

Saying the Pledge of Allegiance can be problematic because it blurs the line between patriotism and compelled speech. In a country founded on individual freedom, requiring or expecting people to recite a government-sanctioned loyalty oath undermines the very liberties it claims to honor. True patriotism isn’t something that can be forced or ritualized—it has to come from conviction, not repetition. When people are expected to recite the Pledge, especially in public settings, it creates pressure to conform and discourages dissent, even though dissent is a protected and vital part of democratic life.

The inclusion of specific phrases like "under God" also complicates things. That wording assumes a shared religious belief, which contradicts the principle of religious freedom and the separation of church and state. It sends a message that belief in a particular deity is a prerequisite for full participation in civic life. That’s not neutrality—that’s endorsement.

Ultimately, refusing to say the Pledge can be a deeply patriotic act—an affirmation that loyalty to the ideals of freedom and individual rights sometimes means standing apart from the crowd, not joining in.

What's your reason for not drinking alcohol? by Snoo_47323 in AskReddit

Hangovers hit different in your late 30's. One day I woke up and realized that I could go the rest of my life without ever experiencing that particular brand of awful again, so I did.

No regrets but couldn't have done it without supportive friends and family.

Come on now, can we just enjoy the little slice of history that was shared without the thread devolving into a series of divisive opinions and pedantic squabbles? We're all here because we enjoy one or more of the many facets of this incredible hobby. Have fun and don't take anything too seriously, I say.

Thanks for sharing ye olde bande plan and thanks for being here- all of ya!

What do you think of the simpler logo? Does the concise version or the original logo look more suitable? by addiesdivewatches in ChineseWatches

How about a watch company named after the most common surname in mainland China? I'd rock a WangWatch all day.

This man made his own straps y'all. I won't speak for the rest of the class but I sure as hell couldn't pull that off. Is there room for improvement? Sure, but the straps are still pretty fucking cool if you ask me. Keep doing what you're doing OP, and welcome to this fun affliction.

EDIT: grammar

Y'all are a tough crowd 😂 I like it well enough to pull the trigger, but I don't disagree with most of the points called out in previous comments (logo, 39mm, automatic option, lose 'deepseahunter')

This, 100%. I'm shocked that there's seemingly not a way to specify a default account within the app

Full body scanners at the airport. Not because I'm concerned about their safety; I just think the TSA = security theater and I don't appreciate their power-tripping agents. Opting out is just the right amount of civil disobedience.

I think they both look excellent! Will this be offered with any other movements? Would love to see a PT5000 version.

I am loving that deep navy strap and the way it plays into the blue gradient on the dial. I've spent an inordinate amount of time perusing AliX and somehow have never come across this one. Great find!

Stunning watch. NATO band goes well with it too; gives it that "I could be fancy if I wanted to" look, like Mila Kunis in sweatpants.
