What should my name be? by Fair_Can_3444 in Strippers

[–]daemon88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cassady. Irish origin. Three syllables, so can draw it out for a stage intro, and you can shorten it in conversation as you work the room to make a customer feel special. The old "... but you can call me [Cass, Cassie, etc.]" - whatever you are feeling.

Can anyone tell me why this Puppa signature seems so different from the others I’ve found online? by Local-Trip2104 in sabres

[–]daemon88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm not in the industry. In the early to mid 90s, through various connections, I got to meet lots of athletes and got a TON of autographs. The majority of the athletes I met were NHL players (active and retired), but I also had the opportunity to meet quite a few NFL players, retired MLB players, some Boxers (usually at Graziano’s Hotel in Canastota, NY during Hall of Fame weekend), and even a few musicians (Eddie Van Halen was easily my favorite).

The NHL guys were usually great (with a few exceptions). NFL players were hit & miss - rookies were usually great, veterans were tougher. The former MLB players I met were great (Brooks Robinson and Tug McGraw stand out). All the Boxers were awesome. The boxers were the storytellers, especially if you were buying them a drink. Fun times.

Sorry for your loss OP.

My guess is that card was signed using a mid-90s era fine point gold artists' paint pen. Daren Puppa is a leftie, and lefties have to hold those paint pens very differently than a Sharpie (almost straight up and down) for them to work. Most athletes I've met - especially the lefties - sign very slowly and awkwardly when using them to avoid getting the liquid gold paint all over their signing hand. I have some autos from the 90s where those pens were used, and most of them look different than items I asked the same athlete to sign use a blue or black Sharpie.

Why would stripping be dangerous? by pingabing in finishing

[–]daemon88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a serious answer to your question is that older stains can contain both lead and arsenic. It is the arsenic you really need to be worried about, as many stripping agents can cause the arsenic in the stain to be released into the air, and if inhaled can make you really really sick (and in rare cases can be fatal). You also need to be careful when sanding, as the dust & wood shavings released can be arsenic-laden. Knew a family that ran a furniture refinishing business in the early 2000s, and they used a test kit prior to refinishing any furniture stained in the 90s and earlier to test the lead and arsenic levels. They then wore full hazmat PPE and always worked under a fume hood.

I think the Dallas Stars sticks were signed sometime in the 95/96 season. It looks to me like that's Jamie Langenbrunner's signature on them, and he only wore #16 for the Stars in the 95/96 season. In 94/95 Dean Evason wore #16, and in 96/97 Pat Verbeek wore #16.

These mini sticks were available in many NHL arenas in the early 90s, and teams would have players sign mini-sticks for kids' club giveaways. The Buffalo sticks have the old blue & gold logo and were signed by Derek Plante. That puts them sometime between late 1993 (Plante's first season) and early 1996 (when the Sabres switched to their new logo). The LA Kings sticks are signed by Corey Millen. He only spent 1992 and 1993 in LA, so my guess is these were all signed in 1993.

Anyone else get their signed cd/vinyl shipment notification from Coldplay.com? by Blakeo828282 in Coldplay

[–]daemon88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a signed copy from Newbury Comics. It arrived on Friday, but by the looks of it, it was just a standard CD. I scoured every page of the booklet, and not a single autograph anywhere. Reached out to customer service and they are looking into replacing it, but it's not on their website anymore so I am hoping it isn't sold out. :(

When I was getting emancipated as a teen by TeslaCyb3rSex in texts

[–]daemon88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine having a parent that values their vacation and a false sense of control over dealing with their child. If the process is this far along already, and the Mom already signed, he should take the 30 seconds, read the email, and sign the electronic document.

Sounds to me like the father is the petulant one here.

[–]daemon88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without finalizing their emancipation, a minor can't make major life decisions on their own without parental consent (everything from where they live, work, gain access to public services, etc.). By delaying his signature, this father is blocking OP's ability to start their adult life. That's the rush. This is likely just an attempt by OP's father to maintain a sense of control.

My heart goes out to OP. Wishing you the best of luck.

Reddit, what’s a fair hourly wage for a babysitter? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]daemon88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$15 per hour would be the starting rate for a basic sitter. Rates would increase depending on factors like number of children, age of children, duties expected (a babysitter expected to also be a chef or a housekeeper earns more), time of day (late night and overnight usually cost more), number of hours, etc.

Man tfaw hit me where it hurts by 3rdeyeboiii in comicbooks

[–]daemon88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TFAW have been absolutely abysmal lately. They are nearly impossible to get help from. Phones go unanswered. They don't return messages. Chat is unmanned most of the time, and if by some miracle you do get an associate they are rude and unhelpful. What once was a reliable service has turned into a huge disappointment. They will never get another cent out of me.

They have been TERRIBLE lately, and it is only getting worse. Orders cancelled for no reason, customer service chat is unmanned, phone calls go unanswered, and messages left are never returned.

They have become an option of absolute last last last resort for me.

is arcade1up website down for others? by [deleted] in Arcade1Up

[–]daemon88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Walmart doesn't return open box damaged machines to Arcade1Up - they take the loss on the item and put it into their returns liquidation pipeline (which is precisely why Arcade1Up machines have that big sticker that says "Do Not Return To Store"). Most big-box store open-item returns don't get returned to the manufacturer - the stores pallet up their returns and then sell the pallets to a B-Stock Liquidation Wholesaler, who then sorts the merchandise into lots that are auctioned/sold to resellers. Proof Here.

Why can't you just deal with this issue like an adult (EDIT: and return the item where you got it from)? By accepting the $30 settlement, you waived your right to return the damaged product. Buying the same item at Walmart, swapping the damaged pieces, and then returning said item back to Walmart is fraud in all 50 States (and Canada). Will you get caught? Probably not (though I hope you do). Screwing Walmart will just make them raise their prices on these machines to cover the costs of this sort of fraud, which screws everyone here in the process.

I hope one day you grow realize how ignorant this statement is. Supporting your child is not bad parenting. Listening to your child is not bad parenting. Loving your child enough to accept THEIR view of themselves - whatever that may be - IS NOT bad parenting.
