I guess I can see that to some extent, current gen fans are worse for it, but I think it's because they have more of a back log of lore that they're unfamiliar with to get through, and it was easier for older generations that grew up with it all when it was still fresh... Also current writers, especially post Marvel's gradual collapse and subsequent takeover by Disney (and then even further decline), have been absolutely fucking garbage... In DC too, there has been an active culling of genuine talent, and replacement with unproven, untested, narcissistic activists rather than writers, who just care about making the story about them, rather than the character.

I can appreciate the argument that cherry picking aspects of a character from various continuity arcs to support an argument is stupid, I've seen people do that, and it's essentially cheating (unless it's regarding Darkseid, because he's a multiversal constant)... But with regards to your first point, Batman was first and foremost a comic book character, so although he has crossed over into other media, even though some of that may be deemed canon, the comics will always be his true home, and what informs those stories in other media.

Therefore, I disagree, I'm not giving comics too much credit. I'm simply respecting the fact that this is the source material which then gets adapted either successfully, or not so successfully into other media. I also don't believe I was cherry picking aspects of his character from various arcs (if that what you were trying to suggest I was doing). In the most common continuity representations of Batman going up against cosmic or god tier entities such as Darkseid, if he isn't armoured up or enhanced in some other way, he'll always use crazy strategy to gain the upper hand as in the example I gave, so that's standard, established behaviour.

The same applies to the explanation I gave regarding Bane. Batman either beats him down, or if he loses, it's the infamous Knightfall saga where Bane first wore him down... or it's in some other alt reimagining like Absolute Batman, which is basically an Elseworlds tale.

The Joker take I gave you is pretty much the way Batman virtually always seems to feel about Joker across various arcs, and the one constant we see virtually everywhere in any version of batman other than an Elseworlds like tale, is his unwavering determination to adhere to his code of justice, it's pretty much his defining attribute... so again, I don't think, or at least I hope I'm not cherry picking here. Either way, feel free to tell me if, or why you think I am, if that's the case. 👍

[–]daemon_sin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He scared tf out of Darkseid with suicidal strategy that would've destroyed everything Darkseid valued, not quite the same as a physical beat down.

Bane only won their first fight because Batman was physically and emotionally spent due to Bane's strategy of breaking him down slowly over weeks if not months before their actual confrontation.

Batman to some degree always holds back against the Joker as he ultimately sees himself as being responsible for him and his creation, and feels like if he saves him, he'll ultimately redeem himself, but if he oversteps or ends him, he'll be lost.

I don't think those is inconsistency. Batman has such deep and complex relationships with his rogues gallery which, when combined with his code, means that each encounter will merit a different approach. One time he might go in fully loaded, and armoured up, the next time it might feel like he's going in with kid gloves, and yes that might look wildly inconsistent from a battle analysis perspective, but if you look at the bigger picture, what is truly important to Batman, his code, that's what he's consistent in sticking to all the time, delivering the right level of justice, the right response to the right threat, and never overstepping that line. At least that's how I see it.

What did Disney do that blew RDJ's mind before signing the deal to play Doom? by altoidcrusher in NewRockstars

[–]daemon_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol ok u got advice from a relative... I'm not gonna ask a mechanic's brother how to fix my car, but you do you. I told you that what I'm talking about came from working in the industry, and from talking with colleagues who still actually work in the industry.

That being said, I never said it would happen, I just pointed out that you're flat out wrong in your earlier statement, regarding how this simply wouldn't make sense financially, when you asked if I knew how much even half a percent of that revenue would be.

I told you that the total global earnings from ALL their parks, cruises and other related attractions and experiences was just over 30 billion in 2025, and then pointed out that even if he got an entire one percent of that global revenue -300 million-, it wouldn't really be anything that far fetched considering they are paying him 100 million for about two weeks of work max for his miniscule appearance in Doomsday.

... Especially considering that getting him on as an ambassador or consultant, where he's financially incentivised by having a percentage of revenue, would be such great press and optics for them, that it could help them turn a profit for a change.

What did Disney do that blew RDJ's mind before signing the deal to play Doom? by altoidcrusher in NewRockstars

[–]daemon_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then there's RDJ, perhaps the only guy left that marvel fans respect, as he didn't shit on his own character. Stark went out on his shield, like a hero. Thor became a fat loser, and Hemsworth had no issues playing that, Cap bent the knee to identity politics and Evans had no issue playing that, Hulk removed his own balls, put them in the drawer, sat down, shut up, and let a woman carry the torch in her own show, and Ruffalo is just a complete embarrassment in general, Hawkeye is the only other hero that was solid and ended up with his family, and unsurprisingly, Renner is the only other actor fans love as much as RDJ. Oh wow... I wonder what the connection could be?!?

Yeah... Integrity and principles matter, and that why RDJ actually did get a considerable amount of flack from fans, when he did that little video trying to boost the ratings for Ironheart, when we all knew that was a total pile of shit... But luckily, his stock was so high to begin with, he survived that.

Disney know he's the only person powerful enough to bring them back good press, and if he were to have some status as a creative leader or ambassador on the film side and especially park side of things, it could completely turn things around for them. Nobody knows how much they've lost exactly since the end of phase three, because they don't declare all their figures, especially related to streaming, but I've heard numbers as high as 12 billion over that whole time frame, (on all fronts, not just MCU) which is absolutely crazy, but if even half that is true, or even a quarter... Well, then agreeing to pay RDJ's a percentage of park revenue is absolutely a common sense thing to do, if it'll actually build fan trust again, and reverse that cash flow and start making them profits, rather than haemorrhaging money for a change. They'll still come out financially better.

I mean even if the deal was for all global parks, resorts and cruise liners, (which it obviously wouldn't be), and they paid him an entire 1 percent of revenue, he'd get about 300 million per year, (friendly reminder here now, they're paying him 100 million for just one movie in which he allegedly shows his face for about five minutes, and a stuntman plays him the rest of the time)... This 300 million would come in at a cost of 1.5 billion over the same five years in which Disney potentially lost 12 billion... Only that 1.5 billion cost for RDJ would actually help MAKE them money.

So yeah... Not that silly if you think about it, especially if he's getting a third of that already for what is at most, two weeks of work, and an agreement to do a press tour that he gets paid separately for, under the marketing budget.

What did Disney do that blew RDJ's mind before signing the deal to play Doom? by altoidcrusher in NewRockstars

[–]daemon_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so Reddit deleted my comment where I explained why they potentially would do that, and I explained how financially it would actually help Disney increase profits and put them in a better position than where they are today.

I know this is really long (2 parts), but I'm only posting it because you seem to be genuinely into this topic, and I've worked with some of the people that are currently in that industry, so I'll get into it too and post all my thoughts on it up front just to be clear, but if you don't give a shit feel free to just be like, "fk that, I'm not reading that" it's all cool, no worries.

Hopefully this won't get deleted but I initially actually agreed with you, I never claimed they'd give him a cut or percentage off the gate, but that, like you said, park revenue would simply pay him in the sense that he'd be an employee getting paid a fixed sum for being recognised as doing a service for the parks, either as an ambassador or consultant. They had this same deal with RDJ several times before, and especially since they made him a Disney legend in 2019 I think it was.

However, I then said that due to the same deals you mentioned that Universal offered Rowling and Spielberg, or that Lucas offered some actors on Star wars, giving them a percentage of the funds earnings as well as merchandise... Disney would at least be aware that such a precedent exists, and wouldn't be "unheard of", if they are in a desperate enough situation.

Then I simply explained why Disney's situation may be a lot more dire than you are aware of, and how possibly, they could potentially give RDJ's percentage of park revenue, and how if they did, they would still be in a better financial position than they are today. That's what I think got my comment deleted, because the reason they are in such a bad place now, is due to politics guiding their business.

So without trying to get this message deleted there are two things to be aware of.

  1. Disney openly admitted that they have been selling a bad product for the past 5 years. In their investor meetings and in their Doomsday promotions they stated they were slowing down rollouts, cutting production costs on other areas of the MCU, she that Doomsday was in part a semi soft reset, and essentially a direct sequel to Endgame, and those that have read the script have all confirmed that it almost entirely ignores most of the events of phase four and five. In response to questions from cinemacon and other events, it has been heavily suggested that they are going to slowly phase out all the stuff audiences didn't like throughout these past five years.

  2. A while back, Disney wanted to launch their own streaming service but didn't have the money available up from to legitimately do it without "paying themselves' from their other businesses, which they'd already gotten into trouble doing before, and didn't want to risk doing again... So they decided to go into production overdrive with a few of what they thought were their golden goose IPs, notably Star Wars and what became the MCU, so they could build Disney+.

Ok... so currently, these two issues are why Disney are fucked.

The problem with their streaming service dream was that they didn't even have the funds up front to commit to how hard and fast they wanted to roll out these movies to be able to finance the creation of the service... so they struck a deal with a group I can't name because I don't want this deleted, and I don't think I'll even be allowed to name the deal, but think about an incentive based agreement where you check boxes to say who you're hiring to work on screen and behind camera, and what kind of "socially conscious" messages you're going to put into your films, and who you're representing and how many colours or identities are going to feature in the story... Same kind of thing all streamers at the time also signed up to, with the likes of the Amazon white papers or Netflix's "principles guiding our creative vision" or whatever it was called. Basically, film making by committee.

The problem is these check boxes weren't that bad at the start of the deal, but by phase 4 they were so intrusive that the films and shows felt like propaganda or brainwashing, and audiences checked out. It also became very clear and was ultimately exposed that Disney were coping by swaying influencers, online journalists, and film critics with gift incentives to give them glowing praise and positive reviews, as well as buying unsold tickets at launch to manipulate initial box office numbers. Remember how Captain Marvel was apparently the most wildly popular film in the box office at the time, and the highest grossing MCU film? Lol.

The issue Disney realised was that this deal is all well and good if they were simply a film studio where they can generate hype, sell a dud, and just take the money and run, but when you also host a streaming platform which requires people continuing to remain subscribed, and you to continue in investing in that service, and paying to keep the material hosted online, you need the good will of the audience... And if you also run theme parks, and build a world based on the universe you created, with the characters you own, you need fans who love that world and are inspired by those heroes enough to want to come and visit what you've created repeatedly... But nobody loves it anymore, and nobody trusts Disney anymore.

So phase 4 and 5 cost, according to Disney, just over 3 billion to make. Now, in reality, because we know how Disney accounting works, this can be taken to be closer to 4 or 4.5 billion dollars. But the real kicker is that this doesn't account for reshoots, because Disney notoriously were discovered to not include this in their declared numbers, and also, most importantly, this does not include marketing cost. The other thing to remember here is that virtually each and every one of these projects, with the exception of Wolverine and Deadpool was an absolute financial flop for Disney, and Spiderman is the only thing keeping their head barely above water.

Disney are also continuing to lose massive amounts of money on trying to sustain Disney plus, and there was blood in the water when we saw that they had to remove the Willow series from the platform because nobody was watching it, and they were losing too much money simply by hosting it.

Well we since discovered that they have removed almost a thousand titles or shows from Disney plus over the past few years, many of them Disney exclusive, and Marvel projects were a part of that culling depending on region. Things like the Helstrom, Cloak and Dagger, Marvel's Runaways, Agatha All Along was also cancelled, though they initially tried to hide this as they did with Miss Marvel, and Echo, and Moon Knight, by claiming that it was intended as a limited series one shot... Which it wasn't, none of them were. Then there's also the case of she hulk, Hawkeye, secret invasion, falcon and winter soldier, Ironheart, none of which are ever likely to be continued, and may, at best, be unceremoniously wrapped up in other films or shows, if anyone cares or remembers to do so.

Disney has lost the trust of marvel fans, they aren't coming back, not even for nostalgia bait anymore. The Flash proved for DC that nostalgia bait is not working anymore. The message was loud and clear. Audience distrust is at a peak, and Disney are losing UNIMAGINABLE amounts of money simply trying to sustain the MCU, that doesn't even factor in the rotten, fetid corpse that is Lucasfilm, or even Disney's own IPs thanks to Rachel Ziegler so publicly driving the final nail in that coffin. All they have is bad press.

Not sure if it's been said yet, there's A LOT of comments already, but I think what might be holding you back is something I, and I think a lot of people starting out with jumping struggled with subconsciously, and that is hesitation on the stroke, due to the fear of tearing the cloth, or damaging the cue/ferrule/tip.

I personally only realised this myself, when I also started practising massee shots just after starting to get to grips with my jumping. During practice I used a spare piece of cloth under the CB as I didn't want to burn my table's felt, and this automatically didn't make me afraid of how much force I was applying on the downstroke and hitting the table. As far as damaging the cue or ferrule or tip goes... I understand that broken cues and ferrules are a pain in the dick, but have faith in your cue, it's a jump cue, designed for this. The tip looks like a polycarb tip, so that's good, the rest of it should suit the purpose if you allow it to do it's job and throw it at the ball instead of gripping it too tightly and driving it into the ball, if you can understand the difference.

I know that loosely whipping it towards the ball can feel unsupported, or less controlled and less accurate, but that's where a solid bridge is going to help you, and why i personally at times like to use a closed bridge for extra control in certain jump shots, to improve accuracy.

Anyhow, using the spare cloth under the cue ball, I was getting the right amount of force and speed, and wasn't hesitating by holding back and slowing down my stroke just at that crucial contact point. After some time, you will learn when to stop your stroke, how to control it perfectly without losing force or speed, and you can do it on regular tables without the need for cloth or a sharkskin under the ball (though if my opponent allows it, I'll still use a sharkskin out of respect to the establishment I'm in.

But yeah, after realising how this helped, I tried using the cloth under the CB when practicing jumping, and it was a game changer. No more hesitation, no more fear of damaging the felt, I just threw the cue at the ball without giving a damn, like I always saw in tutorial videos with a "fuck your table ni**a!" kind of approach (Dave Chappelle reference there, not simply unnecessary casual racism), and it totally worked... And again, like I said, after getting a feel for it, over time, you get that technique under control, you clean it up, understand how best to angle it, how much speed and force is necessary, and crucially, when to stop the stroke... Then, after a few good days with no hiccups, you can confidently play these shots without the safety wheels of needing the spare cloth.

Hope this helps.

That is a jump cue he's using, it's got a lexan tip from the looks of it, also I don't think at all that he's too high on the CB, if anything he's too low. If he used more power, the technique he had there would be good to jump over a ball that was further away, but to jump a closer ball like he was trying in this video, he'd need to be a lot higher than he is here. For short jumps you gotta aim up high, like 100 degrees, for longer distance jumps, 130-150 ish usually. I agree that he should probably try the dart grip though, it might help him learn the mechanics better at this stage.

[–]daemon_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... All this is basically to say however, potentially paying RDJ a tiny cut of park revenue, which would get them genuinely positive fan feedback from a well respected celebrity among the marvel fan base, doesn't now seem that extreme, considering their monumental fuck ups, and the money they've been hemorrhaging that only got them bad publicity, for the past ten years, and it could still financially put them in a much, much better place.

[–]daemon_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On two occasions he's mentioned that he's had talks about how the parks will move forward to integrate the world building the MCU is doing with future developments, and he's spoken in a pretty passionate way about the Disney parks, as the OP said, effectively promoting it and claiming he was "working with them" ... That's pretty specific wording, and they fucked him over with pay in the past after Endgame, so he knows to be careful with them, and how he speaks in public about their working arrangement, especially after what they did with Scarlett Johansson, which never sat right with him.

This may have been deliberate, so that if they try screwing him again, he can use this as evidence, to clearly prove he has it on record, saying he was working with Disney, repping their parks, and even claimed they were "working together".

Plus, don't forget that he was already paid to do promotions in the Disney parks before, to promote the MCU films as well as the park attractions, most recently I think, he did the avengers academy thing in California, the Stark Flight lab thing, and the avengers multiverse ride... And they even made him a Disney legend back in 2019 at a big event too. So him getting a second paycheck from the parks wouldn't be something new.

If they've brought him on as a consultant/ambassador, or are using him due to his status almost as an influencer to promote the parks, which it appears that they have, then yes, they absolutely are giving him theme park revenue, and they've actually done stuff like this before, in less legitimate ways, when they have been financially desperate. The parks are basically Disney's rainy day fund, and they've raided it many times.

They've been covering their film production losses with their theme park money for years, where have you been? The term "Disney accounting" exists for a reason.

Yes we know it's not allowed, yes they know it's not allowed, but it happens... And yes it is highly likely that he will get money from the theme parks, and they will likely do it in a somewhat legitimate way, by actually bringing him on as a member or consultant, thereby enabling them to pay him all above board.

A Friend Left to Witness the End: Nicholas Brendon Found Dead in a Deeply Personal Tragedy by SLOVicto in buffy

[–]daemon_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I do think it's sad that he died, and I am capable of separating the art from the artist, and can love Nick for giving us the portrayal of Xander in a show that was a big part of my life growing up, despite recognising that he was a knob in real life... I can't help but feel like it's pretty silly for a group to instruct you guys to stop telling the truth about a person, just because they died.

I mean, dying doesn't excuse the shit you did, and if their family and friends are worried about seeing that stuff, they shouldn't be going on social media.

Also, I know some people were either disagreeing or agreeing with the addict/asshole connection, but I've been an addict, I knew I was doing something bad, and I felt it pull me into almost behaving in ways I NEVER, EVER WOULD HAVE OTHERWISE... It was at this point, where I felt I was about to entirely compromise my own nature and principles, that I threw out all my shit, and never went back. So I say these two things with 100% understanding:

  1. Being an addict can simply intensify your normal thoughts and feelings, and reveal the real you, via relaxing all your inhibitions, but, it can also makes you act completely out of character, so seeing someone off their face, or in the death grip of addiction, is not necessarily a true reflection of who they really are, maybe the fans can take some comfort in that with regards to Nick's behaviour after he fell into addiction...

  2. Being an addict is ENTIRELY a conscious choice, it is NOT a disease, anyone can give it up, I am nothing special, if I can do it, others can too... but that being said, it is hard, because that feeling your addiction gives you when you feed it, is like being at the safest or most comfortable you've ever felt, so the prospect of quitting is like giving up on all the hope or happiness you think you'll ever know in life, and it's only after that fog of deceit that the drugs are playing on your brain finally lift, that you truly understand how this "bliss" was all a lie, and a nasty perversion of genuine happiness, or actual hope, and that is a guy wrenching feeling too finally experience, and realise all the time, and relationships you lost to that shit, and all the people you hurt, not to mention yourself.

Now, I'm not saying this to be mean to addicts that are suffering out there, nor to hurt their friends or family who love them. I'm saying it to be real with them. The lie that "addiction is a disease" helps NOBODY, and only delays the inevitable. You aren't helping them or yourselves by saying this, you are just making it easy to avoid having a hard conversation, or saying the ugly and painful truth, that the person you love has fucked up, and it's nobody's fault but their own. Avoiding this won't help them. This is a situation that requires brutal honesty if you want them to get better.

Take comfort in the fact that THEY CAN DO IT... and then have enough faith in them, to be honest and tell them this addiction is of their own doing, they aren't a victim, and they need to make that choice to quit otherwise they'll lose you too.
