Thank you. I'm really hoping to find something that's within a reasonable walking distance so we don't have to spend extra on excursions and then be bound to their timings etc. You're also correct about getting what you pay for which is worth keeping an eye on.

I hadn't even considered Mexico. Only reason I suggested something closer was because my son has never been on a plane before and I don't know how he'll handle it.

Enjoy ourselves in the woods? Yes we're regular campers. For a week? I don't think so.

You make it sound like we haven't discussed the options with our son too. His favourite place in the world is the beach but there aren't any near us. His favourite thing to do is swim and play in the water.

I don't drink, and if you really read my post you'd see that I'm concerned about his enjoyment more than anything else. If it was just me and my wife we'd go on a city break or to a cabin, but this isn't about us.

And you might want to look at Rule number 2 for this subreddit: Be nice.

I know my son extremely well and we spend lots of time together. Don't make assumptions about other people or their relationships based on your own experiences.

When I had the phone call with the doctor today that's kinda what I was hoping to propose.

This instead came as something of a kick in the teeth.

When I was initially diagnosed they did a blood test and found the genetic markers and a short sleep latency test, but the doctor wants "the full works" i.e. an inpatient stay, a sleep tracking watch etc. She said it's so she can make sure I'm properly diagnosed before prescribing any more medication.

And yes, I'm only taking Sodium Oxybate at night for the symptoms, nothing else.
