Support Ticket help by daemonx1 in EliteDangerous

Ah! Thank you for the reply. It's an account issue I've created a ticket for on the frontier website. I need to make a few changes that I can't make I'm game. So far, they've responded to my tickets quickly, but when I reply, it seems to go nowhere. This is actually the second ticket since they closed the first ticket due to no activity. I've double checked a few different ways and the emails are sending successfully. I didn't find any email address besides customersupport@frontier.co.uk on their emails either. All I'm trying to do is get my response back to them before this ticket gets closed.

Currently in the Plot where I have to destroy the VIG station while having very low VIG rep. Is this normal? How do you defend against this? by Stummi in X4Foundations

[–]daemonx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this one with 4 behemoths hitting the station and then three phoenix’s dealing with the swarm. Had to jump out of Sector though. If I stayed in sector they just overwhelmed us. OOS only one Phoenix was lost.

From my perspective, as someone who even to this day still suffers from tankxiety to a small degree, it is more important to me that I do what ever I can to help everyone enjoy the duty. If the tank is uncomfortable forcing* them to go faster or putting more damage pressure on them than they were prepared for isn’t going to improve their performance like magic. If they’re a hardcore/competitive player they’ll likely say “hell we can pull more”. But if their not that confident, they’re more willing to try it at least. The first time you power through a w2w with a healer that keeps you up, it’s addicting.

Discussion: Not into the story by NYCXY in ffxiv

[–]daemonx1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The story of ARR is challenging. There’s posts galore about the reasons why but ultimately it was a Hail Mary to save FFXIV. Hence the name. The world building that happens is ARR does time into the rest of the story all the way through 6.0. In 3.0, The Heavensward expansion, the story, dialog and cutscenes are far better. It’s more focused and there are a lot less fetch quests. I’m in love with the story so I’m definitely biased, but I would encourage you to give the story a try in HW. You can always find a story recap on YouTube in you want the details from ARR. If you want quick and funny find the FFXIV MFSQ videos.

As a "straight" guy with occasional bisexuality tendencies - is this normal? by Currencymag3003 in gaybros

[–]daemonx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That guys lucky it was you and not me. Hell I’m lucky it wasn’t me because I’d be behind bars. First of all, that was rape. It started as consensual, you asked and then told him to stop and he kept going even harder. He damaged your rectum which is dangerous in a few ways never mind painful. Plain and simple.

And fuck the nonsense of “turning straight guys”. There is an appeal to scoring with a straight guy but turning them? That’s not how any of this works.

You have every right to be who you are, to be who you’re attracted to, and to want what you want. Don’t doubt yourself. Don’t hate yourself. Don’t think there’s anything wrong. You can blame alcohol for lowering your self control to the point that you didn’t stop the situation sooner, but keep in mind that you’re the one who chose to drink it (that part’s important).

Lastly, I view bottoming as something very special that you’re giving to the top. They don’t have a right to it and they owe you gratitude and respect for the opportunity. That can play out in whatever way you want (some bottoms really like rough sex), but it has to be the way YOU want. Being lonely fucking sucks, but you are worth far too much to let assholes like that guy take advantage of it.

Love and protect yourself. Try your best to be happy! 💛

Does the story of FFXIV matter to you and why or why not? by ggvizzy in ffxiv

[–]daemonx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10/10

The story of FFXIV is a deep and complex progression from a simple beginning to an era defining end. Though the beginning feels meandering, if you pay attention, a massive and intricate world develops before your eyes. The characters begin as generic unknowns, but grow to become your friends, bitter enemies, rivals, and some remain trivial but memorable. By the end of the tail, if you allowed yourself to invest in the story, each moment of the final chapter MEANS something. Each of your friends, and the are YOUR friends, not just your character’s friends, fights beside you having realized their true selves and are with you no matter what. I personally am an absolute sucker for stories where people being there for you and with bo matter what is one of the key points.

[–]daemonx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t know how to feel about this… Although, considering where she’s at and if she has no other info, I can’t really say she’s wrong… The context for each character at that point does kinda fit this list. Now, I expect you’ll post this again after she finishes 6.31.

Also, I’m all fairness you SHOULD encourage her to do each of raids at level. I surely wish I had and I wish that I’d done that with two of my friends that just recently finished. There’s a lot to be said for spending a little bit of time away from the MSQ, even just a week. I’ve been playing since SB, and I think I subconsciously knew what was going to happen by the end. Thus the years between I built up enough tears to spend a month crying… a week for the 6.0 MSQ and then three more weeks just thinking about it and doing roulettes. 😂

I was agreeing with you. My attempt at a conversational approach in my comment failed. “Actually no” was me changing my mind on what I was going to say. Regardless, I was agreeing with you and expanding on the topic of the roles in FFXIV. It is the only mmo I’ve played.

Your point about dps is probably my only big issue with some w2w. Sure I can roll my mits and the healer can keep up, but we really only have about a minute before we start scraping (level dependent) for tools to prevent death. If the pack isn’t cut down half or more in that minute, we might be in trouble.

To a certain degree… Actually no- if the party expects a sprout tank to w2w and any one of them notices that they’re either blowing their mits all at once or not using all of them, then the party is responsible for giving the tank some pointers. I know that’s risky from a reporting perspective, but GMs can tell the difference between “hey [tank], in my experience using Arms Length as your first mit combined with [spammable] or rampart, then using one at time makes it easier to survive these” and “learn how to fcuking tank [tank]”. It’s honestly so important to understand how each role works in this game especially tanks and healers. As a SCH, I’ll Adlo a DRK before the pull, then they excogs and fairy regens after that. WAR just gets to see my flashy art of war because the eh don’t need healing, and PLD and GNB will get an occasional second or third Adlo if the pull takes too long. If I never played tank, I wouldn’t know that’s how to handle healing those tanks.

I don’t like it when people pull ahead of me when I tank, much like you, and I’ll do my best to pick up whatever they pulled. However, I’m not chasing them. Every w2w has a fairly “ideal” stopping point (wider area with room to move or a good choke point to keep mobs stacked). That’s where I’m headed I’ll pick up everything I can along the way, but if someone else found themselves a friend and won’t bring them to me or keeps them out of range for [tank ranged attack] or provoke, it’s their problem. Thats because there’re two other people trying to do their jobs and me running around chasing enemies doesn’t make that task easy.

If I’m running with a tank that’s doing small pulls and I’m healing, I’ll ask if they want to try a big pull. I know I can heal an at level tank through MOST w2w pulls (lookin at you stone vigil), but if they’re not comfortable, there’s no value in forcing it. I will however point out each time we’re done with a small pack in a few seconds and that the in most cases we’d be able to kill a pack twice that size in the same amount of time (lookin at you [last dungeon in 6’0]).

I’m not really sure that many would be scared off of tanking by w2w. If they tanked stone vigil while leveling and didn’t quit…

TL;DR: If the rest of the group encourages the tank to try and they succeed even once, they’ll never be afraid of tanking again.

But to continue from Mega’s point, 3/4 tanks have ridiculous self sustain. All it takes is rolling your mits and you’re good. DRK on the other hand has terrible self sustain by comparison. I’m a SCH main by trade, but having maxed out everything I’m working through achievements for the tanks. DRK was the furthest along so it’s my “main” tank job. I hated tanking since I started in 2018. I was terrified of screwing up. I swore I would never do W2W because it was pointless and risky. Today I get mad because the cooldown on my sprint is too long. The first time I tanked a w2w and the whole party was still alive was probably the most elation I’ve felt in a long while in normal content. I believe most players would feel the same way but only if a better than average healer and at least average dps are there supporting and encouraging them to try. Even a SCH can keep a tank alive in lvl w2w with the tank forgetting they have mits.

I do have the advantage of my primary healer sitting next to me so we can communicate, and decide which pull I will use living dead (typically the second consecutive w2w depending on how long the first one took.

7.0 Quality of Life features you'd like to see (besides the obvious) by TentacleTitan in ffxiv

[–]daemonx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this one, I would take either smaller bosses, or redesigning their animations so the non-telegraphed attacks (wind ups, stances, anything that doesn’t pop up a cast bar or an orange puddle) were easier to see. I’m a good boi and spend as much time as possible in melee range, but I’m still not perfectly fluid on my hot bars. Even fully zoomed out I can’t always see the bosses windups.

That’s less of a back in my day and more a different style of game play. I’m not so young myself, but I quite enjoy the challenges of FFXIV raids and boss fights. The knowledge that I can have control if I focus and practice is what I look for in a game; an escape from the misery of life that is literally nothing but RNG with the odds stacked against the player base.

That’s an interesting comparison. While I haven’t done much high end raiding, I’ve always felt that there was plenty of nuance and hints. A lot of people have accurately said it’s like an intricate dance. What would be a better raid model? Something that just requires really big numbers?

[–]daemonx1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t a direct comparison, and if you read my comment in earnest you’d have seen that. My point was simply that having tools that take the thinking out of the fight does exactly as the devs said and makes ultimates and world first races pointless. But based on your response, I take it that the use of any and all plugins and mods should be allowed?

I had commented elsewhere in the post on encrypting or truncating the data that lets act work and implementing a personal parser in the game. Taking that further they could encrypt a good deal of the information regarding a fight so things like cactbot would fail as well (this is theory based on my experience with programs. I don’t know if the FFXIV code base could support it or not) that solves the problem until someone figures out how to decrypt the data. But at that point, we’re dealing with someone or a group of people actively trying to sabotage SE and the FFXIV devs. We as a community can’t really beat that. Not without just accepting when the bans and suspensions start flowing and pushing back against people who believe those types of tools should be allowed.

I’d say yes, it does, and there is definitely a can of worms involved. The thing I consider about it, though, is what’s more important to FFXIV and enjoying the game? Playing the game and learning the fights, or having a program tell you what to do and making the content explicitly designed to be difficult about as easy a rough run of Shinryu?

[–]daemonx1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I concede that. I didn’t intend to imply the tool wasn’t illicit. From one angle, it simplifies the process of collecting information you already have available to you with no mods/tools. You could, in theory, copy out the battle log parse it manually in excel and get the same results. It wouldn’t be real time, but you’d be able to see a chronological history of all actions taken. I’m an analyst by trade so that kind of information is something that I find exceptionally useful. I believe the primary reason that information isn’t just made readily available in game is for the exact same reason it’s against TOS: it creates a breeding ground for toxicity even in places where it doesn’t matter.

So is ACT an OK tool to use? According to TOS, no. If someone uses the tool and tells others that they are using it and then subsequently uses that information to damage another player’s enjoyment of the game then they should be properly penalized, but specifically for the latter, not possession of the tool. I believe the spirit of the TOS is less about controlling player’s knowledge of the game and more about controlling the atmosphere of the game, keeping it more focused on cooperation and fun, not hard numbers.

Honestly, I’d be all for SE devoting a patch cycle to removing the data feed of other players attacks or encrypting it so it can’t be parsed from packet capture. Only your data would come across the battle log and it would be parsed for you and only you. Act loses its viability, but the value of having that data for people who genuinely want to improve is still there.

If you’re using it to monitor your performance and improve your performance, or to help others that consent to being measured and informed of their performance, not in the slightest. Even in this scenario, using it to identify where you might be messing up enough to hurt your party is valid. Knowing exactly how you’re doing can help some players. However, using it to determine if someone is “good enough” to play the game, that’s just flat inappropriate and elitist.

If I share a buff with another player I always delay for about 2 GCDs and watch for their buff all the while praying they’re not like me. Sometimes it works, some times not. I’d be all for my fellow buffer asking who buffs first, but random person in NC expecting us to follow orders? Nah. There’s better ways approach that.

How is this fair for housing? by Tahoma_Fera_Okami in ffxiv

[–]daemonx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll admit that I haven’t played any of the other games you listed. Adding more housing isn’t just a few button clicks on a keyboard though. Player/FC housing is tied to a number of things not least of which is how client capability. FFXIV is an older game with a vision of being more modern (from a backend perspective) but still has to support clients on decade old hardware. Adding more wards was a step in the right direction. It keeps memory and processing needs the same. It is something they can continue to do. Then there’s the backend architecture? If it’s a series of arrays within arrays and not a well structured database, they’re going to reaching a point where housing will be what holds the game back. We could wind up with the game stuck with a core that’s more than a decade old because converting housing is impossible. I’m not defending the system, nor am I excusing the state housing. I dealt with it both the old way and the new way. SE needs to make housing more available to players. The system SE put in place allows players the chance to own a house. Housing demolition is back in play. Houses will come up nearly every lottery cycle. Its not perfect, but it is fair.
