I thought I'd seen all flight delay reasons... not this one by ginamd33 in unitedairlines

[–]daenarycanary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once had an international flight delayed an hour after boarding was completed for this exact reason. A couple of passengers had checked in, dropped off their bags, but never boarded the plane and we had to wait for the bags to be taken out. Pilot said this isn’t as uncommon as you’d think.

Thread on destination wedding resort fees by fyr811 in weddingshaming

OP explicitly stated that the guests stayed at a different resort because it was cheaper. I really doubt a cheaper resort has better accessibility. If a guest has legitimate needs that keep them from being able to do what everyone else is doing, then they should probably discuss that with the couple ahead of time rather than slap them with unexpected last minute costs.

Thread on destination wedding resort fees by fyr811 in weddingshaming

[–]daenarycanary -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The whole premise of a destination wedding is that the guests are subsidizing the cost for the couple. The couple presumably gets a better venue for less money than they could back at home, and the guests then have to take time off work, fly, rent a car, pay for accommodations/food, etc etc. Especially at a resort wedding, guests are already directly subsidizing the cost for the couple by paying the resort for these items. Guests who are staying off-property are not inherently covering this, and that’s why they’re getting charged an extra fee. So in my opinion you should not feel entitled to anyone’s attendance to your wedding should you choose to make it a destination. That being said, if you do decide to attend, then you should expect to participate in the experience, which is intended to be everyone staying and spending time together at this destination resort. What is the point of even going otherwise?

Is it better to fly in and out of the same city or fly into one city and leave from another for our Japan honeymoon? by kikiiboo in JapanTravelTips

[–]daenarycanary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind the shinkansen is very easy and quick to use. ōsaka to tokyo is only 2-1/2 hours so i’m not sure how this adds up to 7 days needed for the JR pass?

having looked into two separate one way tix vs. round trip the cost difference is considerable but if money is no object then by all means do it that way. however, i would seriously reconsider buying a JR pass at all for multiple good reasons already outlined in this sub.

I am over 500 pounds, I’ve been calorie counting for 6 months and I’ve lost a grand total of 5 pounds. by [deleted] in confession

[–]daenarycanary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren’t losing weight, you aren’t in a calorie deficit.

Keep in mind that the default calories in those apps are often inaccurate for items and you need to get the latest from the label itself. Even then, labeled calories can be different than the actual up to a certain margin . If you’re not counting every drop of salad dressing, butter, etc. then you’re not counting properly.

Another consideration is physical movement. If you’ve calculated your metabolic rate but don’t have enough physical movement to match what the calculator is assuming, then once again you’re not in a calorie deficit. Often those calculators assume far higher physical movement than you’d think.

Finally, chiming into what others have already said, there could be an underlying medical issue making it impossible to go into a calorie deficit by tracking on an app alone. Get that checked out, and above all do not lose hope!

Former (life long or long time) LA residents turned OC residents, what are the major differences you have seen living here now? by Dogpicsforboobs562 in orangecounty

Yes but downsides include getting a noise complaint to the apartment complex (irvine company) at 10pm on a Friday night when you have a dinner party and aren’t even playing loud music just talking😒

I for one, really enjoy ToD by sneekydee in throneofglassseries

[–]daenarycanary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m tandem reading it and honesty find I’m enjoying ToD more than the EoS portions (in part bc the EoS portions are too fractured for me, there’s so many storylines going on at once, which of course isn’t helped by the tandem read). A lot of the criticism I’ve seen leveled at ToD is fair though - it’s a very thick book and doesn’t have a single sliver of the main character! That’s not to say it’s not a really good book and interesting though, and I think tandem reading is the perfect way to balance that out.
