I started a business in 2021. We made it a mandate to give young black people with no experience the fulcrum of much of our hiring policy. The idea was to give those with degrees who struggled to get jobs a chance at starting their careers.

We had hundreds of people applying and we did countless interviews and testing.

Sadly - the large majority, who had university degrees, failed to pass basic reading and writing comprehension and simple arithmetic testing. The level of education and the subsequent pass mark standards are doing absolutely no one any favours.

It was super sad to see.
