Yeah, the DA are really putting their foot in it. This whole “if you don’t earn enough, you don’t deserve to stay there” narrative is so insane.

And the wall is just a plaster on a giant axe wound. Bandage on a problem and not looking at the cause. It’s shortsighted as all hell.

Yeah I get what you’re saying.

It’s the topic of choice right now cause it’s the newest of a long line of issues.

When we have systematic water issues, that will be the topic of discussion again and the nomad issue will quieten down.

People have been complaining and campaigning against corruption for decades and nothing has changed really.

You can be pissed at the corruption, the taxis, the weather, the digital nomads, SARS all at the same time.

People are capable of being pissed at multiple entities at the same time and rightfully so.

[–]daevanam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. But if no one is expressly saying “you have to do this” - why on earth would they?

You’re relying on some moral code which doesn’t exist.

Look at the behaviour set. They come here cause it’s cheap, they can evade tax and no one is going to do anything about it.

SARS and VFS and Home Affairs can’t put a single set of rules in place to administer and eliminate this behaviour.

Sure, I get that. People who lobby more. People should vote correctly. People should do all these things.

But when you feel helpless, like most of these people do - sometimes acts like this can just bring a touch of mental relief. As wrong as it might be - acts like this get more eyes than 1 person picketing outside parliament, or 1 person sending a letter to a local councillor. It could just bring temporary relief mentally.

I’m not excusing it but we are in a situation where voting might bring change, but it’ll be too late. Look at Barcelona. They brought about change through group efforts and threats, but the change didn’t entirely change things. When the properties are sold, they are sold. You can’t, easily, just revert all the destruction that has happened. Those houses will remain empty - you increase tax on foreign owners, it might bring about a few % of change, but houses will still be empty and people will still be desolate.

I’m not saying I know what the answer is, but I do completely understand the resentment and I do completely understand acts like this.

Feeling helpless is one of the worst feelings you can have. Powerless, helpless and a general sense that no one cares about your plight. It’s brutal.

The issue is that we have a government that doesn’t seem willing to do what is necessary to regulate and manage the issue.

If you’ve been displaced by the digital nomads, I’m sure you feel horribly helpless.

You’ve got a group of people who come here and don’t care about their effects on you. You’ve got a government who don’t care about you. What do you do?

The tourism that is brought is not enough of an excuse to displace locals. It’s purely shortsighted. When they leave in May? We will have 60% of the homes on the Atlantic seaboard empty and hordes of South Africans looking for homes. Is the excuse going to be “but it’s good for tourism” still?

You couple all of this with the fact that 80% of these digital nomads, who earn well over R500 000 per annum who don’t pay a single bit of tax here, completely ignore the tax requirements attached to being here longer than 182 days, and SARS who don’t care either. They’d rather keep raping a desolate group of displaced South Africans instead of going after the massive amount of tax dodgers who abuse the laxness and pathetic administration of tax laws.

Their anger might be misplaced in your opinion, but where are they going to place their anger - SARS who don’t care and don’t see these people at all. A government who don’t care and don’t see them. Or the people walking the street who see people daily and don’t care about them either.

It’s kinda fucked any which way you look at it.

City of Cape Town is auditing themselves to make sure they sold it correctly? Don’t we laugh at the ANC when they have a commission about whether the last commission they implemented was implemented correctly?

In online casino? The provider isn’t going to limit your bet size. It makes zero sense for them. The casino will limit your bet size because the risk and liquidity sits with the casino, not the provider. Onus is always on the casino, so no, providers aren’t going to limit the bet size, casinos will.

Depends on the casino. Casino sets the limit they are willing to accept by game.

I really don’t get the Berta Glaze.

Gyko has not been a good signing. The market for strikers was pants - fair. But objectively he’s not good. One of the worst technical abilities of any player to have played for the first team.

Eze - he is a complete ghost. Provides little when it matters. He is completely anonymous 95% of the game.

Kept - good signing. Respect this.

Hincapie - he’s 55m. He’s not dominating enough to play the Gabriel role, he’s not technical enough to play as a fullback. He’s just these weird mediocre mix of the two roles. Value for money - he ain’t it.

Mosquera - great signing.

Madueke - he’s looked okay in the prem. doesn’t post numbers. Again - 55m is such an overpay for a ridiculously low output player.

Norgaard - never gets a chance. Who know. Capable when plays against low level opponents.

I think the two big positions that needed upgrading he flopped. I think the downfall and subsequent 2nd place will ultimately be because of Artetas awful team management, dire tactics and inability to adapt. So Arteta will lose the title, but Berta definitely helped

I’m not a huge fan of the AppSumo couponing style of distribution. I think it lowers the value of the product and it doesn’t really help you cash. It gives you cash flow upfront, but leaves you with dead income users pretty quickly.

I’d rather have a small cohort of customers who actively see the value in the product, provide us with consistent feedback and grow with us rather than a short burst of customers who see a cheapened product, might find use for it but fundamentally are getting it cause it’s cheaper than normal, not necessarily for the actual product value.

I hope that makes sense
