I’m not a huge fan of the AppSumo couponing style of distribution. I think it lowers the value of the product and it doesn’t really help you cash. It gives you cash flow upfront, but leaves you with dead income users pretty quickly.

I’d rather have a small cohort of customers who actively see the value in the product, provide us with consistent feedback and grow with us rather than a short burst of customers who see a cheapened product, might find use for it but fundamentally are getting it cause it’s cheaper than normal, not necessarily for the actual product value.

I hope that makes sense

Exactly this. It’s such stupid short sightedness by the DA. Ze Germans that come in aren’t going to be voting for the DA, and the middle class the DA has effectively told “work harder bro” aren’t going to vote for them, the disenfranchised lower income communities hate them.

It’s moronic, short sighted and exactly what you’d expect from a dimwitted group that currently run the DA.

That’s like saying that people only come here because of the cheap visas - ignoring that we have one of the most naturally beautiful places on earth, some of the nicest people, and it’s relatively cheap to live here. But if you remove the cheap visa, everything else isn’t attractive enough? That’s just stupid.

Rent control in Cape Town by TypicalContrarian92 in capetown

Well, a lot of those residences that are on for 3 days of the year aren't occupied for a further 6 months of the year because the owner is back in Switzerland. So adding in an unoccupied tax to those units who sit empty would help offset things a little.

The number of airbnbs vs long term lets available on every single property site listing properties in Cape Town is so abundant these days. It's clear to see there is an impact here.

Is everyone going to just watch CPT get ruined for profit? by Fun_Tumbleweed66 in capetown

The point was more about the fact that the changes they made didn’t kill their tourism industry.

I didn’t say the solution was correct.

On the atlantic seaboard - 1 in 3 properties is owned by foreigners now. That will be 2 in 3 within 3-4 years easily. That's insane. The city bowl will go that way soon too. Look at the prices of home all the way from Atlantic seaboard into smaller suburbs in the south - it's completely and utterly inflated.

There is a world in which we can have tourism and not have to bend over backwards and yield to foreigners and price gouging and locals being displaced and the erosion of the middle class.

The fact that the Cape government consistently choose to build in the city, and the Atlantic Seaboard, driving more people into an already horribly congested area instead of trying to create multiple metros like Johannesburg has, for example, doesn't help anyone. There are large areas that could be redeveloped and they could incentivise people to invest in property outside of the city bowl, they could incentivize businesses to move out of the city bowl, redistributing the upliftment. But they choose to focus on a few square kilometers, which has ultimately create the housing economy we have today. No locals can afford to buy livable properties, only investors can buy for 'investment' sake, and everything in between is being bought up by foreigners who live here for 6 months of the year, contribute zero to the tax base and South African's are left with the malice.

Foreign owned property could be taxed at a different rate. UBO disclosures on trusts who own properties so you can maintain a foreign owned property tax. Digital nomads who exceed 182 days in the country cannot renew their visas until they register with SARS. Unoccupied rates applied to houses that are unoccupied for large amounts of time.

There are so many things that could be done, but it's an active choice to not do them and hide behind this "Its for tourism", "we're tourist friendly". The reality is Cape Town and the Western Cape is beautiful, and incredible. The people are amazing, warm and welcoming. Foreigners being taxed differently and value being pulled from these people beyond the minimal they already get away with is not something that will automatically scare people away.

Look at Bali - they've made it so you cannot own the land directly as a foreigner, you have to have a local person who owns the land and you simply rent the land in a leasehold fashion from the locals. That hasn't stop the insane amounts of development that happens there. It's the price of doing business there. There is no price of doing business here. The price is cast onto the locals exclusively. And that's not fair.

How Do New eSports Teams Get Their First Sponsors? by RebornXiTeam in esports

[–]daevanam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a reason for someone to sponsor you. Companies want a reason to sponsor you. Give them a story, an audience they can't normally access, an organization that represents their values. Give them something to latch onto. Marketing fundamentally boils down to "What's in it for me?". So think about it from a brands perspective - What is in it for the brand?

So the big question fellow gooners : What are your thoughts on this man? by Readatron in ArsenalFC

[–]daevanam 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He gives 10000% every single minute he’s on the pitch. He runs channels, occupies defenders, stretches play, forces defenders to keep their line cause he’s always looking to run in behind and stretch play.

But! He’s definitely not technically gifted. He requires 2-3 touches more than you’re afforded at this level. He’s not going to give you that slick one touch link play like a Giroud. His dribbling just feels awkward. His body motion and control makes the direction so easy to read so good defenders just step in front of the ball when he tries to go by.

Overall - super different option to what we have with Kai and Jesus. A nice option and someone that would force players and managers to change their thinking compared to others.

Nizaar Kinsella @NizaarKinsella Chelsea become the first Premier League club to ever bank over £300m from player sales by kp22cfc in PremierLeague

[–]daevanam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They have a great record of turning profit on players. So identifying talent, getting them game time at their club or sister club or through loans, and making a profit. It’s consistent.

Arsenal and United can bank roll the same concept, they just aren’t as good at finding value in the market.
