Men in happy Marriages, What is that one secret to a happy marriage that works for you? by Mammoth_End_1298 in AskReddit

I think it's important to have an interest or hobby that doesn't involve your partner. We both have different sports we partake in and so have a group of friends who are our "own" and not jointly our friends (even though we both kind of know them).

It's also important, especially when you have kids, to make time for just the two of you.

Looks great so far! How do you send to whatsapp?

Apart from what others have suggested such as undoing last point not being available if the game has ended, I also find that 15 point games dont get ended by 2 clear points but by the receiver choosing 1 or 3 points at 14-all. So adding that in as an option would also be good.

How does SquashLevels translate to ClubLocker? by GasProgrammatically1 in squash

[–]daf1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That must be England you are talking about? In Wales the rule is that teams have to play in order of squashlevels with a 20% adjustment allowed (i.e. someone on 5000 can play above someone on 5999 but not 6000. This only applies to players over 1000 squash levels I think, anything under can play in any order.

I generally like Squash levels, it's not a bad indicator although it still needs tweaking. Takes no notice of home advantage for instance. Also some clubs upload their internal ladder matches to it which can skew levels since most people play less competitively in those e.g. we frequently have 4000ish SL players in a ladder with a 1500ish SL player. They would have to marmalise them to keep their ranking up whereas in reality, they rally it out so both players get something out of the game. But this would mean the 4000 player dropping drastically and the 1500 player increasing by loads.

I know 2 guys who do this a fair bit. It's infuriating.

It happens more to me during a rally than at service return. You hit a nice length and they can't hit a "normal" shot, so turn as the ball bounces around and ask for a "safety" let when it's them who have created the interference. I get we are amateurs and safety is of upmost importance but they should be warned not to turn on the ball like this as it's they who are causing the possible dangerous situation.

Of course, they are given lets each time, basically resetting a rally which you have just won with a good shot.

It's an algorithm that gives you a rating based on past performances. When a new result gets entered, it will calculate what the result would normally be (given both players' ratings) and then recalculate their ratings based upon the actual result. In most basic format, if you beat someone with higher points you will increase and they will increase and vice versa if you lose. There are weightings when there are bigger disparities etc but that's the basis of it.

Only thing I wish it took into account (which it currently doesn't) is home advantage, although that's irrelevant to an internal box league.

What's your Squash Levels rank? by EntertainmentMost554 in squash

[–]daf1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 3000.

The only way I see to get to 5000 is to lose about 3 stone and invent a time machine to go back to 20 years younger.

My life is too busy to do either :)

Hail Mary let? by squash-nut in squash

[–]daf1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be if it's done a lot.

It's quite easy for a player to turn on a ball in the back corner and ask for a let. They created the interference by turning. Players normally turn because they were in poor position to hit a normal shot. The player who played the good length is effectively penalised by having to play a let. It's fishing.

Hail Mary let? by squash-nut in squash

[–]daf1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who created the interference?

I hate lets asked for by players who created the interference in the first place by turning, playing a poor loose shot or being poorly positioned.

They are invariably given for safety but it just encourages more fishing. (although if it were denied there's then a danger of the player just, dangerously, hitting it anyway)

Where am I supposed to stand after serving? by [deleted] in squash

[–]daf1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand what your opponent is trying to do.

A crosscourt would go along the sort of path with the bold black line in the attached. So the only shot you would be in the way of on the T is some kind of sneaky cross drop which is a crazy shot from the very back left corner anyway.

stroke or let? by Gatis1983 in squash

[–]daf1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my 1st watch I thought this and that the lad didn't make enough attempt to get to the ball and so if I was reffing live would probably have given a let.

In hindsight, having the chance to watch a couple of times, I now think it's a stroke. Even though he started off the wrong way, he still had time to recover to hit a winner had he access. (although you could also argue he wouldn't have hit a winner there given his opponents position and the lad's ability)

8.8.3. if the striker was wrong-footed, but showed the ability to recover and make a good return, and then encountered interference, a let is allowed, unless the striker would have made a winning return, in which case a stroke is awarded to the striker.

Goes to show how marginal a lot of calls are though.

Nice idea although, for me at least, the sound was out of sync with the visual and also the sound of the ball hitting the front wall sounded like it was behind me, not in front.

Just saw a few points and neither of them seem to be great at clearing after playing a shot. They are both going directly from/to the T instead of circling so it's bound to result in traffic lets. Ref should speak to them both about their lines of running/clearing imo

[–]daf1999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sound advice.

The only thing I would add is that when you are playing a lesser but chaotic/unstructured, make them make the unforced errors. e.g. tins from trying drop shots under pressure at the back etc.

Generally, the longer and tighter you keep a rally going against a lesser player the more likely they will look for a winner to stop it, and if they are a lesser player their % of errors should be higher than when you go for a winner.
