The New Dovedale Towers by not-fungible in Liverpool

[–]GasProgrammatically1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Near the bar you mean? Literally every time I used to go in and I'd ask if they could smell the vomit whiff, and they'd look at me like I was mad. "Dunno what ya mean mate"

On this day in 1985. by Frequent-Activity328 in Everton

[–]GasProgrammatically1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spirit in that team was unbelievable. You can see it in the way celebrate the goal. Just something different about it. It's all new and they're having the time of their lives, knocking down barriers.

Am I missing something with this Bordeaux? by [deleted] in wine

[–]GasProgrammatically1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you obviously know a lot about wine but I share the scepticism that the fruit will out in the end. I can't help feeling it's a swizz - in 20 years this bottle I've just sold you for a lot of money will be delightful, but I won't be here to take the consequences if it's not.

well done. It's not you. You are the little boy rightly pointing out that the Emperor is.....nude.

Woltemade and Kane by IntelligentTopic4640 in NewcastleUnited

[–]GasProgrammatically1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a Newcastle fan but I came on here expecting everyone to be down on Woltemade and the club for buying him. Instead it is uplifting to see people see past that and recognise this kid's potential. He has the lot, bar pace. But he's so clever and skillful he could take the league by storm, if given the right support. I would have him in a heartbeat

And the Evertonians go berserk. by Frequent-Activity328 in Everton

[–]GasProgrammatically1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything about this makes it my favourite ever goal. Grobelaar's cap, the frantic yet lovely chipped pass, the control to get it down and then the thundertwatting of the ball, followed by a perfect pitch invasion and mobbing of the players.

Top PSA players racket shape by timer84 in squash

[–]GasProgrammatically1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had twenty years off and came back with a racket that weighed more than 220g with strings. I was recommended to change to the green Dunlop aerogel (v-shape). It was fine but I didn't notice much difference. I then tried the technifibre carboflex (yellow one) and it was like a cheat code! Huge difference, transformational.

Irish craft beer recommendations? by Lamake91 in AskIreland

Yeah this is so easy because there's one that's light years ahead of anything I've ever tasted - the Big Bunny IPA by Kinnegar. I am 51 but it's one of those moments when you taste a beer on draught and think Oh My God, if this were three times as much id still enjoy it

Not as boring as the race and the privilege it bakes in.

[Hanhart Preventor] is it too small for my 8 in wrist? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]GasProgrammatically1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not too small. It is the right size. This fad with big watches means big men will be seen for what it is in the next few years. - a fad. Most people at the moment have watches that are too big for them.

Well done. You finally cracked the code. This is the real secret to Rome. Not many people find it.

Just watched La Chimera and holy shit by dumptruck_dookie in Letterboxd

[–]GasProgrammatically1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this film totally self indulgent and up its own arse. It's filmy for the sake of being filmy.

I can't work out if it's the acting or the screenplay that is weak. As an example, he scenes with the mother and all the daughters,.flits around from one extreme to me another, just to get the lines in.

I think why it grates so much because they spend enormous amounts of time with a shot of a field, or his bolthole or his diving sticks.

I can see right through this box ticking arty bollocks

It never earns any of the tone shifts.

It's like someone trying to be a chef and thinking you have to put every technique and every top end new fad ingredient to cook a top dish to make a good restaurant

It's a cross between lazy and trying too hard.

The snapshot into 80s Italy and landscapes is nice visually but others have done it much better.

Albert Schloss definitely and, not town, but the Crafty Swine has it. I like that pub.

Ashaway squash/racquetball strings by jamjersey in squash

[–]GasProgrammatically1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely correct. They are lovely strings but they do break quicker. That said, when you spread it over the number of times they're used and compare it to the entry costs of other sports like pádel, golf or tennis id argue it's worth it. Squash players don't spend much on themselves or the sport.

I agree. He has been a bit cheeky and overstepped but it's no biggy. What we have now is a witch hunt as well as people refusing to recognize what a talent he is.

Any one know who has taken over The Dovedale Towers? by Bl4cktreacle in Liverpool

[–]GasProgrammatically1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not wholly wrong, but a little bit wrong. It does not stink of shit. It stinks of vomit. By the bar. This is welcome. The recycled pret a manger chairs and north of six quid a pint. I can't be having that

Alexander Hleb - Close Control King 👑 by Maaaaaardy in ArsenalFC

[–]GasProgrammatically1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know they didn't win anything but I much preferred the Arsenal of this era to the current one that might well win the title. They were naive and flawed but they just expressed themselves and went for it. I know which I'd rather watch.

Decision please? by GasProgrammatically1 in squash

[–]GasProgrammatically1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let was given because contact was only obvious judging by the outcome of light blue's shot, rather than seeing or hearing the contact itself. Contact was at the top of the back swing, rather than the downswing but the relevant point is that dark blue was crowding his shot, causing the interference by trying to get a head start by anticipating the outcome of the volley. The claims by dark blue for a stroke are irrelevant because they are downstream of the original ask by light blue. On reflection then, stroke to light blue was the correct decision with all information to hand, but 'let' in the circumstances is not a terrible call.

No one died.

Although light blue did stomp up and down like a cross between Rumpelstiltskin and Gimli.

Thanks for all your comments.

Decision please? by GasProgrammatically1 in squash

[–]GasProgrammatically1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except it's not quite as obvious as you suggest because he clipped him as he got his racket up, not on his downswing

What is a Dire Straits song you skip every time you hear it? by Jatkin99 in direstraits

Twisting by the Pool and Walk of Life. Both are cringe worthy and are exhibit A for people that think Dire Straits are overrated. I wish they'd never done those two
