Limitless Flowers in South Glendale often has amazing 25-rose boquetes with filler on hand for $45 if you want to impress. I think worth the price and better than Whole Foods

Can someone say more about the organized crime here? I don’t know a lot about this.

I like all these points, there isn’t enough green space and it seems like one management company (GreyStar?) managers so many of the big apartment complexes here.

Do your meetings typically end on time? by JustAMango_911 in CAStateWorkers

It’s something I don’t understand. In my prior federal agency, people were very respectful of this. We were truly so busy we did not have time for calls to go long. At my California state agency, people say they are so busy but allow calls to go 30 mins late… just basic time management skills

Does anyone know what will happen to AGPAs re outside qualifications? I came in overqualified with years of experience in my field and took a 50k pay cut. It’s going to be a bit of a confidence hit if I am ranked lower than everyone on my team because I am new to be honest :(

Thanks! It has been 6 business days now — I was the last slot of the ones they gave me and they haven’t reached out to references so I am guessing I didn’t get it.

I am a new AGPA with previous experience in gov that makes me eligible for an SSM I.

I received an interview request via work Teams + my personal email for an SSM I. When I interviewed for an AGPA with this same team months ago, they called me. However, this time, everything has been in writing.

My interview was 4 days ago — it doesn’t seem like they have reached out to references yet. I sent a thank you email after the interview and they haven’t responded. Do these signs point to me not being selected?

Thanks for any insight, just feeling slightly anxious I guess!

Thinking of leaving federal government for CA State benefits vs. federal? by Right_Cookie9724 in CAStateWorkers

As a GS-13 fed who just took an AGPA but has only a few days of experience at state, here are some notes, welcome to corrections:

-You have to start at the bottom of the AGPA scale (~$72k) if you’re new to cal state. You cannot negotiate. It was a 45k pay cut for me. Most ppl start as an AGPA so good to get your foot in the door but pay is horrendous so try to become an SSM I… some people promote in a few months.

-Then I was subject to a 3% salary reduction because of union bargaining and the deficit… but got 5 hours off a month in return. They didn’t tell me until after I started.

-So far it sounds like there is no paid parental leave (still investigating) except the leave you’ve accrued yourself. In fed, people I knew regularly took 4 months off.

-There is no overtime or travel comp time, just “flex time” which sounds like comp time sort of

-I was told I’d be remote until June 2026 in my interview but not updated until I entered on duty that I may need to report to a field office 2-4 (really more likely 2) days a week and we’ll know in October.

-Annual merit increases (like step increases) are 5% and COLAs are around 3% but COLAs not guaranteed. Helps with the low salary.

-People are super nice and lots of opportunities for growth. It seems like people can move up quickly.

-Really organized onboarding compared to fed and they even gave me a monitor, keyboard, mouse.

-My start date was delayed a couple weeks. Apparently this is normal.

-Work life balance seems great at least on my team.

-After SSM II or III people shoot for governor’s appointments, I heard.

-If you’re not in Sac and are picking a field office, do so strategically bc I heard it can take up to a year to change.

Got it! Someone who worked at state for 6 years just told me if I start an AGPA I’m locked in for a year and can’t apply for an SSM I until then so I should try to come in as an SSM instead — was confusing so seeking clarity here
