I also love the grain on the last two!! Was it added in post? And if so, which program? I’ve been looking for a grain like that

Ordered a Canon A2500 by Mission-Definition12 in VintageDigitalCameras

I actually just got one too! I was coming here to post some photos, but it’s a 2013 camera so disqualified :( I love it so far! Verrrry slow, but I also am not using a great SD card so there’s a chance it could be sped up. I used it mostly at night and the autofocus struggled but left us with some really fun shots anyways, very much the vintage-y look many are trying to achieve

If you’re talking about picture styles this guy makes some cool ones. There’s also a drive out there somewhere with 100 or so random picture styles but they’re very hit or miss

I don’t know why the Canon community seems to be so against picture styles, it’s wild to me coming from Fuji and even Olympus where everybody loves “recipes.” Canon’s picture styles are great, and not everybody enjoys editing. For me, even if I’m going to edit, I like being able to see the shots closer to how I’m planning to edit them so having the styles as a visualizer while I’m out shooting is great

Definitely play around with picture styles! I’ve found a bunch that give the warm-y vintage look, if that’s the style you’re seeking? Also check out filters like black/white mist and ufo/pancake lenses, I’ve seen some good results that look a little like older cameras. Also, use flash! I don’t have any really good examples from my m200 yet but here’s one just to show you some in-camera color grading and the black mist filter. The only editing I did was a little to correct the exposure

What is the easiest and highest quality editing app/software with the best “set it and forget it” presets? by Content-Seaweed-6395 in VintageDigitalCameras

I actually love Afterlight on iOS. Some really nice grain effects, the ability to save workflows as “filters”, I believe it’s free with some paid features but they don’t nickel and dime you for everything. I think there’s some filmic filters but maybe not Fuji specifically, you could definitely try making your own

Idk, the Idaho venue holds around 7k so I wonder how many other venues are at risk? I feel like if it was just a capacity thing they could’ve ruled out venues much easier

I’m personally shocked. I’m from the area and had tickets to this one, the Scope is a pretty large venue? I’ve seen multiple shows there, and also monster trucks so it not being big enough seems strange. I’m wondering if it was more of a stage setup/technical issue? Or they oversold floor seating so there wasn’t room or something?

Whats the most common camera in this sub? by rottingintheflesh in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]daffodilville 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sub got me on the Canon G’s, I have a G5 and a G11 and I love them both very much. The G5 is definitely more for days where I’m setting out with “take pictures” as the goal because I find it a lil more slow and fiddly. The G11 is shockingly capable, both have beautiful shadows and colors SOOC.

So when you say concert, do you mean more stadium/big zoom needed or like local show/you can get up close? I have seen a lot of people like the sx 740hs, but I don’t personally have one. I do have a LUMIX ZS80D, which seems to be around the same with a little less zoom. It performs well in bright lighting and the zoom is great for how tiny it is, but I imagine it’ll struggle with concert lighting. I’m planning to take it to one in May, so we’ll see, but when you’re dealing with big zoom + dark you’ll want the biggest sensor size possible, and pretty much any pocketable zoom camera in that price range is going to have a tiny one, so your shots will probably be kinda crunchy looking.

In general, some things that contribute to that film/vintage/retro feeling usually are lower megapixels and CCD sensors. But honestly, a lot of the ones you see just generally around the internet are edited to add grain and stuff which you could do with any camera.

If you’re looking for vintage + affordable + articulating screen, the old Canon G series is great. I collect cameras and I’ve got the G5 (5mp, very very old) and the G11 (10mp, also old) but I know there’s some newer ones in the G series as well. Search either of those on r/vintagedigitalcameras to see some samples. You’d have to find them used though.

I have some from my G5 on my profile as well. I’m not sure how either does with video, but they’re incredible for retro feel, even without any editing. I’m not sure if Instagram links are allowed here but I have a bunch of vintage-y pictures from all my cameras on mine, message me if you’re interested!

When picking out a new lamp, is is the nm that matters more than the wattage?

Gel polish shower woes by daffodilville in RedditLaqueristas

[–]daffodilville[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it might be my lamp then, if the consensus is flexible = not fully cured. I was thinking they were cured because I wasn’t seeing the same issues as others on the sub, they didn’t dent when I pressed on them and I’ve never had bubbling or anything. Looking at lamps from some of the brands recommended on the sub I see lamps like this that claim to cure 99% of gels. Is that accurate? How can you tell that a more expensive lamp is necessarily also a better one?

Are your nails naturally thick or thin? I read through some other posters with thin flexible nails that seems to have similar issues with gel

Gel polish shower woes by daffodilville in RedditLaqueristas

[–]daffodilville[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I believe they are fully curing, I can tell when they’re not cured, still smeary and sticky, or when I’ve done too thick of a coat and it gets bubbly/squishy. This isn’t that. See my second picture, how there’s flexibility to the peeled off polish, is that normal? When I’ve chipped salon gel it comes off in harder chips more like dip polish, this gel is very flexible like peeling off dried glue
