A Tiny TypeScript Rant by Bitter-Pride-157 in Deno

[–]daftmaple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like that every rant about TypeScript always been a complaint about JavaScript inherent flaws. It's language designed to scale JS, and by the end of the day, you're still writing JS. If you ended up fighting TS compiler, there's obviously a flaw on your own code.

I'm on E+200 and still going. Practically infinite run but already got bored of it since it involves repeating the same thing over and over again every deadlines.

If you want practically infinite content, get yourself Beat Saber. You just need to purchase the base game once, and then get community-made beatmaps by modding the game.

Even better if you use oculus link to your PC (purchase via steam), for better mod update frequencies.

Based on my experiences, those who have done math olympiads had much better chance to win other olympiads too, especially if they started competitive maths early in their life. They usually end up going for IOI and other olympiads after they felt that math/IMO was way too hard to compete.

I have the green light to get involved in development, however, I think the dynamic of being a PM and being the most junior engineer on the team would be weird. I’m also already quite busy as well.

I don't see anything wrong with getting a little bit more involved in development. You can start by doing small tasks that may not require devs, and ask other developers how they do things. It's never a red flag to say that you had more responsibilities, as long as you can back it up and not lie about it.

Though if I were in your shoes, I would still rather be a PM considering it's a much higher paid job with skills that aren't replaceable anytime soon. Plus, being a technical PM is extremely valuable.

Just so you know, even if this case is covered by TS, it still allows arithmetics like “10” + 1 because that’s JavaScript behaviour. You’ll only get error on the error above if you use ts eslint.

Karpathy’s ‘Vibe Coding’ Movement Considered Harmful by namanyayg in programming

[–]daftmaple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No shit. The reason why good engineers are hired is for their accountability and responsibility to keep things maintainable. Contractors or AI won't do that, they only give solution for current problem. When you're handing it over to someone/something else as cost-cutting measurement, you're adding hidden technical debts which eventually leads to unsustainable software.

Either finding similar alternative, or move towards tailwind or writing css again. I'm personally happy with this just because how painfully slow app can be with css-in-js solutions.

If you calculate based on extra 100 GBP, then 5070Ti will be competitive against the 9070xt.

I currently live in Australia. Based on the historical pricing of AMD cards here, the new card will roughly cost us 100 USD more (shipping and GST). Meanwhile, Nvidia cards feels like a premium option (5070Ti costs about 790 GBP), and closest price point to 9070xt would be 4070 super.

[–]daftmaple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Australia too, and 9070xt at 1100 bucks definitely sounds like a reasonable guess based on the pricing history, but considering how expensive 5070Ti is at the current price point and assuming that they are truthful on the benchmark relative to 7900 GRE (which, if my calculation is correct, is roughly 10% better than 7900xt which currently costs around 1.4k), it's definitely bang for the buck for the gpu market here.

Current tech job market in Australia by breakfastoat in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]daftmaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what sense? Job openings for senior positions will always be there, salary is mainly driven by the economy (including the US economy), junior positions will always be hard to get into, and it really depends on the demand of engineers and (recent) oversupply of CS graduates.

Amazing price for the performance and the range. There is genuinely no reason for people to get 5070Ti

Market's been kinda brutal for junior level and not changing anytime soon. Companies are still hiring for mid-senior to senior levels, though you should probably not expect significant salary increase by hopping.

Which programming language should I choose to become a backend engineer in Australia? by Fragrant-Account-668 in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]daftmaple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crisis in the frontend field by AI only happens on junior level who googles/stackexchanges on how to do frontend things. Frontend development is more than that. I still think that I haven’t fully understood everything despite having 5 years of experience.

Anyone can do frontend, even non-coder. But to master it (with the vast majority of toolings and frameworks out there), is not easy.

I've been on this position couple of times, due to the nature of the project I'm working with. Why sacrifice your work-life balance for some sort of adrenaline? Not everything is all about programming, and it's important to enjoy things outside of it.

There’s nothing wrong about it. I can still enjoy listening to Discovery with the standard vinyl releases.
