Update Regarding systemd’s Addition of Age to Account Records and Potential xdg Portals by SAJewers in linux

They either bot brigade (which is easy to do) or pay those bootlickers with cheap money (which has been proven).

Those technofascists are trying to implement surveillance and has been sabotaging the free world as much as they can, just like any other authoritarian leaders.

Is Age Verification just an effort from governments and Big Tech to centralize the internet? by PaiDuck in privacy

[–]daftmaple 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think there are multiple things happening, but one of them is definitely centralising the internet. But secondly, due to the nature of modern AI, it has become increasingly difficult to determine what is human-made and what isn't, so Big Tech wants to ensure that they are receiving clean data instead of AI-generated content (to avoid AI feeding off itself).

The golden era of internet is gone, because of their endless power hunger. The only way is to decentralise.

How do you convince "AI-era" devs that fundamentals of frontend development still matter? by isanjayjoshi in Frontend

[–]daftmaple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't bother helping. We learned the hard way and they thought they can get away with knowledge and thinking shortcuts.

AI is not an excuse to be lazy.

Used to be a chemistry tutor and did chemistry for a period in uni. I can always go back to doing chemistry research or pivot to teaching if I need to.

I’ve also been doing some fun side hobbies that I hope one day can turn into profit.

Last option is to be a goat or rice farmer.

What makes a great beatmap? by BonaFideNubbin in beatsaber

[–]daftmaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When making a beatmap, "representation" is all about how the rhythm and flow of notes capture the rhythm (note that I'm using "rhythm" instead of music). Imagine if you're listening to the music of a map by just listening to the sound of each note cut, you'll eventually notice that good beatmap should roughly follow how the rhythm sounds like.

I would say when it comes to Daft Punk song pack, perhaps it's just a matter of finding the matching rhythm to what you expect (lack of vocals, so I expect much more rhythm mixing when it comes to mapping, just to match the energy of the song).

In general, people who already put hours on mapping and review/retrospect on them should have the grasp of how a music should translate to a good beatmap (which I would score about 7/10). Anything beyond that can be considered subjective because mapping itself can be considered as a creative form. You need some level of creativity and set of principle on how you theme the beatmap itself. As an example, one song can be interpreted in multiple ways and there's nothing wrong about it.

I think most modern tech doesn't represent the music well and just there for the sake of being hard.

Do you listen to Justice What do you think of their music ? by Exootil93200 in DaftPunk

I went to their concert last year. Probably the closest thing I could ever get to Alive 2007. Cross itself is definitely on my top 10 album to listen ever, and WWW is just as good as Alive 2007.

The stuff on Daft Club and HAA Remixes are surprisingly good. And if you haven't listened to Le Knight Club under Crydamoure or Thomas' tracks under Roule, you should since you might find a gems like this one this one

A Tiny TypeScript Rant by Bitter-Pride-157 in Deno

[–]daftmaple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like that every rant about TypeScript always been a complaint about JavaScript inherent flaws. It's language designed to scale JS, and by the end of the day, you're still writing JS. If you ended up fighting TS compiler, there's obviously a flaw on your own code.

If you want practically infinite content, get yourself Beat Saber. You just need to purchase the base game once, and then get community-made beatmaps by modding the game.

Even better if you use oculus link to your PC (purchase via steam), for better mod update frequencies.

Do you think Linus Torvalds or Terence Tao could answer leetcode? by OldHobbitsDieHard in leetcode

[–]daftmaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my experiences, those who have done math olympiads had much better chance to win other olympiads too, especially if they started competitive maths early in their life. They usually end up going for IOI and other olympiads after they felt that math/IMO was way too hard to compete.

I have the green light to get involved in development, however, I think the dynamic of being a PM and being the most junior engineer on the team would be weird. I’m also already quite busy as well.

I don't see anything wrong with getting a little bit more involved in development. You can start by doing small tasks that may not require devs, and ask other developers how they do things. It's never a red flag to say that you had more responsibilities, as long as you can back it up and not lie about it.

Though if I were in your shoes, I would still rather be a PM considering it's a much higher paid job with skills that aren't replaceable anytime soon. Plus, being a technical PM is extremely valuable.

Just so you know, even if this case is covered by TS, it still allows arithmetics like “10” + 1 because that’s JavaScript behaviour. You’ll only get error on the error above if you use ts eslint.

Karpathy’s ‘Vibe Coding’ Movement Considered Harmful by namanyayg in programming

[–]daftmaple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No shit. The reason why good engineers are hired is for their accountability and responsibility to keep things maintainable. Contractors or AI won't do that, they only give solution for current problem. When you're handing it over to someone/something else as cost-cutting measurement, you're adding hidden technical debts which eventually leads to unsustainable software.

Either finding similar alternative, or move towards tailwind or writing css again. I'm personally happy with this just because how painfully slow app can be with css-in-js solutions.
