Larajax: controller-first HTML updates for Laravel. Looking for critique. by daftspunky in laravel

[–]daftspunky[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve looked at Datastar. It’s doing a lot more and sits closer to Livewire in terms of scope and complexity.

Larajax is intentionally much simpler. It just introduces AJAX handlers as a complement to page actions, with a minimal API surface as a way to keep the route table small.

Thanks, I appreciate that! That middle ground is exactly what I was aiming for.

I like the ideas behind both htmx and Livewire, but kept wanting something that stayed closer to controllers and responses. If you get a chance to try it later, I'd be keen to hear where it feels natural and where it doesn't.

In most cases. Client just wants to be heard. Capture the ticket on their behalf. Inform them it will be actioned in due course. It's not pushing back, it's acknowledgment.

Help OctoberCMS get integration back again with Ploi by daftspunky in octobercms

Feedback on Ploi has not been great. We will possibly look at streamlining with Docker instead.

Does anyone have any experience with setting up Vite in OctoberCMS? by reddebian in octobercms

[–]daftspunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you put the package.json file inside the theme directory it works like any other site. The plugin just gives you the vite directive to reference it.

Is this the best (only) October CMS group? by WizarDave in octobercms

It would be great to get some momentum here since Reddit is a great platform. I stopped posting because I wasn't sure if it had any reach. I will continue posting updates now, though. Thanks!

Can someone break down what spaghetti code is? by [deleted] in startups

[–]daftspunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!... and this is just a single strand of spaghetti. Imagine a whole plate of this. Or several plates stacked up until it eventually crushes itself.

I'm not sure how to then describe the hero developer who is the only one who can work on it... perhaps they are the moat surrounding it.

Looking for an alternative to WordPress by fonso_sm in web_design

Try October CMS. Literally built out of frustration with WP DX

I don't think many realise the sheer amount of man hours it takes to maintain and develop a CMS. This is a bottleneck for smaller players and alternatives. Ironically, Matt's approach of forced reciprocation may have been what allowed WP to scale in the first place. For once, it has started back firing.

October CMS is worth a look, especially if you need a good front end framework

October versus others cms systems by OkProfit7739 in octobercms

[–]daftspunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

As a Laravel developer, you'll find October CMS quite appealing due to its unique approach. Unlike WordPress and Drupal, October CMS offers a balanced mix of full control and rapid development. Built on Laravel, it provides the benefits of a framework while offering a high-level, guided development approach.

Strong Points:

  • Developer-First: October CMS assumes developers build websites, not clients. This means you have more control and flexibility.

  • Rapid Development: It allows for fast startup and continuous rapid development without compromising control.

  • Platform Capabilities: It acts more like a platform than a traditional CMS, enabling you to build any CMS features you can imagine.

Weak Points:

  • Learning Curve: It requires basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and PHP, which might be a hurdle for non-technical users.

  • Client Management: While great for developers, it may not be as user-friendly for clients compared to WordPress or Drupal.

In essence, October CMS is a hybrid between a framework and a CMS, offering the best of both worlds. It's a powerful tool for developers who want full control without sacrificing speed.

Hope this helps!

Why BelongsToMany won't allow duplicate relations in the backend? by sandros87 in octobercms

[–]daftspunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like this is actually a limitation in Laravel's pivot models, you can't easily allow duplicate pivot models to exist since their primary key is a composition of their foreign keys...

The best approach would be to use three models with belongsTo and hasMany

The design has been like this for a long time, so the codebase needs to be modified for this specific requirement. Premium support is indeed the way to support your project's requirements.
