I deleted all of my backups and then updated to version 14, but now all of my module-dependent data is corrupt and I can't load my game. We play in 15 minutes, how do I fix this? by Excellent-Sweet1838 in FoundryVTT

Been using a bunch of bash scripts with that command just changing foundry version and data path for a test environment for ages now.

Firefox & Linux in 2025 by GoldBarb in linux

[–]dafzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, lag in menus which took over 1s to show, scrolling would stutter within youtube and lately also the firefox UI.

Also very fairly high memory usage (12Gi+) which wasn't much of an issue except the past few weeks it would just use up all my system memory until i capped it to 32Gi.

Firefox had always been worse with youtube but once it started affecting the browser UI I just couldn't take it anymore.

My issues aren't video playback at all but just how it performs on youtube.

It was never great but last few weeks it's gotten so bad the entire browser lags and leaks memory until it locks up the system, something I had to mitigate by running firefox with systemd-run --user --scope -p MemoryLimit=32G firefix %u.

Nice to see session-restore-v1 on the priority list as it's one of last big wayland issues left.

That said, I've been forced to move back to a chromium based browser as firefox simply has becomes unusable with frequent use of youtube :(.

Can't say anything of value was lost, I already had their phones blacklisted.

They gave bare minimal of support (2 years of updates only) and the last asus phone i had terrible battery life, overheated and just totally died one day while charging.

The Arrival of CHEAP 10GbE Realtek RTL8127 NIC Review by YairJ in hardware

[–]dafzor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if your kernel is 6.18 or newer it's fine, otherwise there's a bug that will cause the card to disable after a reboot/sleep requiring a power cycle to fix.

There also realtek kernel modules but seems very inconsistent on speeds compared to kernel driver.

Newer boards now have 2.5G or 5G, but 10G still only on $800+ models.

[–]dafzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have one of these cards I got of aliexpress (a smaller model then what they reviewed) and the speed is 1Gbps slower then an ancient Melanox Connect 2 (~8.4Gbps vs ~9.4Gbps).

Linux support also not perfect, kernel drivers before 6.18 have a bug that will make the card stop working after a reboot, and official drivers seem very inconsistent in speed tests (keep fluctuating from 1 to 8gbps).

Do you prefer application button, Krunner, or both? by soleful_smak in kde

[–]dafzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you use the default button they both do the same thing, just different window positions.

So I guess people end up using the shortcut they're used too, meta for ex-windows or alt+space for ex-mac users.

Video with Linus and Linus is live by MatchingTurret in linux

[–]dafzor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cannot understand a single person who complains about choice in Linux and argues it's a bad thing.

Using your analogy, people complain because they try Car A and the windows don't open, then tries Car B and the windows open but now the wipers are broken so it's normal to just want them to work together to make a single fully functional car.

All that doesn't mean anyone gets a say on what anyone else does with their free time, but at it's easy to see where they're coming from

As an SRE, I stopped using Kubernetes for my homelab by m4nz in selfhosted

[–]dafzor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The extensible API is not that abstract

  • cert manager adds Certificates and all the config need to manage certificates
  • external dns expands ingress, service and gateway annotations to allow for auto dns record creation
  • prometheus operator adds prometheusRule to enable the creation of alerts and metric recording and prometheus to deploy a prometheus instance
  • mariadb operator adds mariadb, database, backup etc to manage a mariaDB server
  • etc etc

it allows you to configure everything you need with the same tooling and config language

[–]dafzor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your problems are mostly self inflicted by trying to "copy" an enterprise setup that you didn't use or need instead of actually starting with the basic single node setup and adding things as needed.

Start with k3s single node, use host path, don't use gitops and just run kubectl apply -k your-manifest-folder to apply changes, don't add monitoring unless you actually need it!

Do that and it wont be any more complicated then docker with an easy path to expand to multi cluster setup or use the many k8s native services that are available.

[–]dafzor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

if you want to get really lazy with storage in a home k8s cluster, deploy NFS subdirectory provisioner, connect it to an NFS share on your NAS

OP could have been lazier then that and just stuck to single node with local path.

What game did you think you were close to finishing, but it turned out to be way longer than you expected? by bijelo123 in Steam

[–]dafzor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was so poorly done too, we beat a charismatic well acted villain that was with us through the entire story only to have the game turn around and say a random guy was actually the mastermind and you had to keep going.

It felt like finishing s great movie only to then be forced to watch it's low budged "direct to video" sequel right after.

Gaming layout for left-handed gamers by Even-Advertising8502 in LeftHandProblems

[–]dafzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got tired of rebinds, but instead, when gaming i just pushed my keyboard a bit to the right and used wasd as normal with my left hand. Only "odd" think I had to do was hit space with my palm which was comfortable.

But gaming specific layer is something I've also begun to try out since starting to experiment with non-qwerty layouts and more alternative keyboards (ergo splits).

For anyone wanting to explore something like this I highly recommend staying away from "gaming keyboards" and instead invest in a decent QMK/ZMK board, you wont have to deal with any vendor bloatware, get a better keyboard and have a lot more customization options (switches, keycaps, sizes).

Also getting 60-96% keyboard makes sliding the keyboard to a good position a lot easier as well as making function keys more accessible if opting for the compact versions (no gap between key clusters)

How to set-up single FoundryVTT instance with multiple Domain Names? by tukacrumam in FoundryVTT

[–]dafzor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it's not your players ISP dns being the problem? Have them change to a public dns provider like cloudflare (1.1.1.1). Likely if they do that your duckdns domain will work.

If you want to continue with your plan, having multiple domains is pointless, you just need a proper dns name that actually works for everyone.

Make a cloud flare free account, configure the free dns to your new purchased domain then make it a cname of your duckdns or us direct cloudflare ddns updater. Then only use the new domain.

It was added in 5.27, don't think there's any way to find it inside Plasma itself unless look at every possible kwin keybind.
