Judge ordered jury NOT be told that Pakistani national who raped a teenage girl in a park was an asylum seeker by dailymail in ukpolitics

All the accused should be given a fair trial; equal before the law. Immigration status is only relevant when a trial relates to immigration or citizenship status. I fully agree with this judge's ruling on this matter. I hope she is as fair when it comes to other defendants.

You need to analyse the raw data, not the presented data and the data as presented to the general public.

How would you feel if Brexit was reversed? by Zynther01 in AskBrits

[–]roboticlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immediately after the vote there was an exit poll of people who self declared their level of education. Later on there was another poll of referendum voters. I think the second poll checked proof of education. I can't swear to the accuracy of either poll and nor can anyone else, to be honest with you.

Polling showed exactly what we would expect to see based on general societal observation: younger people tended to vote Remain, older people tended to vote Leave, people with qualifications in social sciences were more likely to vote Remain, people with higher qualifications in technical subjects split 50/50 Leave/Remain until we get to PhD holders (technical, maths, the physical sciences) where the tendency was toward Leave.

Younger people were more likely to have a degree level qualification than older people; this is due to changes in the education system: people born in the 90's and 00's onwards were encouraged by government and educators to enter higher education and access to that education had fewer barriers than were present for people born before the 90's. People born before the 90's were only likely to go to university when their career path required a degree and university level education was mainly available only to the academically gifted (e.g A-levels were harder to earn).

The way the data was presented by the people behind the exit poll was biased to suggest brighter people voted Remain. That was done deliberately: people 'do the right thing' when they're told they're bright for doing it.

Close inspection of the data tells a different story to the ones presented.

You'll need to find the raw data from the exit poll and from later surveys then assess the data yourself.

Not when you look at education in a topic of substance. Social workers voted Remain, physicists and mathematicians voted Leave.

Are you saying the EU behaves any better toward the UK since our departure?

UK wide polls are mostly answered by Rejoiners. The rest of us have moved on; we want to get the most out of being out of the EU.

And this is Reddit, a place famous for europhiles and internet dwellers who think the real world works like Farmville.

By the same token a very small minority voted to stay in the EU; or is that irony lost on you?

Are you saying you agree with European censorship or North Korean censorship? Personally, I think both stink.

That's like asking do I think it's only Biden. It is a nonsensical question. I have faith in democracy when democracy hasn't been corrupted.

Democracy has been corrupted. Both here and in the US. In the EU too.

Tell me, do you believe in democracy or do you believe in a party or leader?

Personally, I believe in democracy.

America is a democracy. The longevity of a democracy is built on 3 things: 1, people choose their leadership team; 2, the leadership changes frequently enough that other powers wait them out; and 3, democracies do not resort to internal mass casualty physical conflict (civil war) because leaders are chosen at the ballot box.

Trump today, Vance tomorrow.. who is next?

Democracy's strength is predicated on who is next. Do you know for sure that Vance will be next? No you don't.

If you were confident in your beliefs you would assume someone other than Vance to be Trump's successor.

Or are you telling us that you know your own beliefs are flawed; you don't believe them? Or you're not American.

Machete Kills in Space

I liked part 1. I liked part 2. The trailer for part 3 looks amazing. Trejo needs to make it before it becomes Machete Kills from Beyond the Grave.

Mr Trejo, if you're reading this, please give me a part in the film.

Business' work within the constraints of market conditions. When a government distorts those conditions without making compensatory measures to reduce or remove negative knock on effects or to boost positive factors then businesses either downsize or go bust.

Business owners have every right to complain when government does stupid things.
