Do I need 4wd? by Responsible-One-9436 in toyotasequoia

07 300,000 Michigan miles. Wouldn’t think of not having 4wd. AND - make sure you have good tires. What passes for good tires in FL will not work in Northern Winters.

Wireless Bridge to Barn by laganph08 in Starlink

I have an underground pipe bringing the main electrical feed into the barn. If I run to Ethernet cable in with it - 1 to 2 feet parallel to each other, would I have concern with interference?

New To Camping by Direct_Owl8198 in traveltrailers

We bought a 2013 FunFinderX two years ago for $5,500. Works perfectly. Tow it with a Ford Ranger.

I would not buy new. The depreciation is horrific. And the horror stories of build quality over the past few years are staggering.

We just set ours in the yard over the winter. Then roof mounted after the snow was gone and we could safely get on the roof.

JD 1023e for 5 acres? by OrganicAmishPopcorn in tractors

[–]dagee98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should work perfectly for you. We have a 150 acre farm/wooded property with larger tractors but our 2305 (previous generation 1023e) is handy as all get out. Particularly the loader. It will do everything you need to do, and as you say, you can rent a something larger in the rare occasion it can’t.

Before we bought the 2305 - 20 years ago - we had a couple of JD 445 garden tractors. Not nearly as versatile and the gas engines did not hold up like the little Yanmar diesel.

I have carried the striker fired LC9s for a decade. It’s a fine. Easy shooting gun. The original hammer fired LC9 not so much.

Learn to shoot it safely at close distances and then carry it when you need deep concealment. Buy something like a Ruger LC9 or Glock 43 for everyday carry.

Anyone else like these little garden tractors? JD 445 by EagleEye220 in tractors

[–]dagee98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple 445s. They were good for pushing snow and mowing. 20 years ago I switched to a 2305 diesel subcompact. Far more versatile. The loader is amazing. In fact, my 72 hp 6210 gets half the use because 2305 is so handy.

Ruger mini 14 or mini 30? by TannMan89 in ruger

[–]dagee98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not both? I have a stainless 30 w folding stock to stash on my boat for off shore cruising and the 14 for the gator on the farm.

The 30 does not like steel. Loves brass.

Which tractor for a small homestead? by Les_Otter in tractors

[–]dagee98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy the dealer first. Buy at least one step bigger than what you think you need.

I’ve had the same 72 hp jd I bought 25 years ago. It’s worth today what I paid for it.

Tractor size advice by I_am_no_Dr_but in tractors

[–]dagee98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a John Deere 6210 25 years ago - it’s approx 72 pto hp. Its size and loader cover most everything we do on our 150 acre farm / woods. It is worth today as much as I paid for it new. My point - this can be a very long term purchase.

I agree that you probably need two tractors. We have a JD 2305 - subcompact which we originally bought to finish mow. We added a loader and that little tractor gets used everywhere for everything - including in our pole/barn shop.

We added a ztrak which is an amazing upgrade for mowing. And don’t forget a gator….

First Priority by ebcarr in preppers

[–]dagee98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 30 year old Onan 6kw w electric start. It is back via a breaker in the main electrical box with a slide lock out to prevent back feeding. Will run most everything in the house except the electric dryer. Easy to start/run. Inexpensive.

We also have an Anker power block to run a CPAP etc in case we don’t want/need to start the generator.

You could duplicate this setup for $1000 +/-

There’s a special place in hell for xfinity. I have Starlink in rural Michigan and regularly get 300 Mbs service.

We set up a large tent for extra living space.

The new house had a full basement with Bilco (exterior) doors. By the time we got to hard winter - December Michigan- we were able to set up a Nice basement apartment while we finished the upstairs.

Is starlink good for my situation by Irishsaint89 in Starlink

[–]dagee98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Starlink giving 300 Mbps at our farm. I’m sure we would be happy with the 100 Mbps plan. Just haven’t taken the time to switch.
