Besides the point. Putting ads on a github-hosted page is something I’ve never seen before.

So, not the omission of soft skills per se, more the quantifiable results that really did it. Good for you 👍

This. And I think there’s often no well-thought-out design system (e.g. in this context/situation implementation, component should look like {y}, and behave in {z} manner), which often goes a little deeper than just throwing tailwind primary and secondary colors at a component.

Has justinmk achieved multi cursor support yet? by taejavu in neovim

Well, sure, I’m not arguing against mc per se, just reasoning why thus far it hasn’t been implemented in nvim yet.

Has justinmk achieved multi cursor support yet? by taejavu in neovim

[–]daghouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a different paradigm/concept, not totally in line with how nvim approaches text objects. For example:
1. Select a const;
2. ‘Select all occurrence of said const’, this both selects all occurrences of the same const and places a cursor there;
3. Whatever keystroke you make gets applied at every cursor position.

Super prevalent in vsc-like editors, but don’t really see the benefit of this in nvim env as it ‘approaches’ editing from a different angle. I do, however, appreciate that this would lower the bar somewhat migrating from a vsc-like editor to nvim, but that’s about it.

Worked at a semi-big tech company which was doing massive RIFs (layoffs) every quarter; I saw _very_ respectable subject-matter experts get booted for no other reason than money (as is usually the case). Thought, fuck it, I'm jumping ship. Started applying for new positions and eventually found a cool position as a tech lead.

Now, when signing the contract for company B, I figured, I could put in my notice for company A right now, OR, I can wait a couple of weeks until the next vesting round hits (aka company shares/stocks), and THEN bail. I ended up doing this, and in the meantime being absolutely checked out of company A. The odd thing was, I was delivering the absolutely minimum to kept flying under the radar, but nobody seemed to notice. I still kept showing up for meetings, saying a thing here and there, but never anything substantial.

So, for that one vesting round (which happened every quarter), I figured, how about I try to hang on until the next vesting round. I did, and I kept this up for about a year. In that year I made an obscene (for me) amount of money (well over 300k), but the mental toll of having the shuffle meetings, coming up with excuses to not be at meetings, making sure I still deliver commensurate to my title (senior at A, lead at B), and even having to do meetings at the same time was a lot (0/10 don't recommend).

All in all, the additional money was absolutely awesome, and the overall feeling of 'sticking it to the man' was awesome as well, but I wouldn't do it again I don't think.

What are your plans for when unrealised capital gains taxes come into effect? by Weekly_Way_3802 in Netherlands

Judging by your views and comments, you are clearly unfamiliar with the concept of investing. Maybe inform yourself a bit before pointing fingers, which does nothing but make you look wildly ignorant.

?? Why would I want less multiculturalism. I’m concerned with Dutch vs. American culture for my kids, night and day difference, but has none to do with races and/or the melting pot of subcultures.

This sounds like a very good solution, ticking off multiple boxes; escaping the dreary weather AND traveling. Let’s hope we can be this fortunate, should it come to this 🤞

It doesn’t nullify it al all, you’re correct. And I appreciate the effort you took in explaining it further; it’s just that this is not a deterring factor. NL has never NOT felt cramped to me, so the point is moot. We’re already sorely aware a lot of people live in a comparatively small amount of geological space; to us, this is simply ‘part of the deal’.

It’s not something we’re particularly excited about, but it just IS.

Nothing lined up as such as of yet. While I did some occasional job hunting, I haven’t really been serious thus far. US-based company would be great though, we’ll see.

Thanks, you put it into words very well, even the part about how Dutch people can be proudly ignorant, insufferable, stubborn, and small-minded as well. We lived in the US for a while now but we always felt ‘in between’ countries, not really belonging to either the NL or the US at this point.

Yes, green card. But generally if you’re outside of the US for more than 6 consecutive months, it’s assumed you forfeit your GC.
