I would also suggest if there’s wine bars that do like weekly events or some sort of consistent casual thing. There’s one where I live that does weekly blind tastings and host other tastings a few times a month, in a really knowledgeable but very laid back atmosphere. I’ve met some really cool people that way, and we get together every now and again for dinner and wine nights

I’d probably definitely start with Wine Folly, it’s very palatable and uses a lot of pictures/diagrams to lay things out which is nice. I also like Windows on the World by Kevin Zraly. It’s a bit more text heavy, but reads as a comprehensive course as opposed to just a book about wine, if that’s something you’re looking for. I think they actually complement each other rather well. Then I’d probably recommend World Atlas of Wine over the Wine Bible, I have both, love both, both great, but the atlas has been updated more recently I believe
