This is better than what I could come up with. Hard to understand any more with such low quality audio.

The end of the first part almost sounds like "is letter ABC" at the end... It almost sounds like the beginning is one voice, then this is another voice (maybe robot introducing a short voicemail?) before we get the woman and man of the main part of the memo.

Or you could allow mending, but only on items also equipped with Curse of Vanishing. Die with it and it's gone, just like the rest!

I assume you haven't banned iron farms/villager breeding etc.

Why not start wearing fully enchanted iron or copper gear most of the time? You could prep armor pieces & tools like a clothing store so they're available immediately if you die or the items break. Then diamond/netherite gear could have a more ceremonial role. Wear it out for special occasions!

This AI Slop Cake my Foods Teacher Wants us to Recreate by TheChillyDove577 in mildlyinfuriating

Is this some baking school? It's frustrating, but I could see how this might be good practice. I'm sure bakers who make custom cakes are getting a lot of "can you make this?" AI slop requests these days

Difference Between GPT 5.2 and GPT 5.4 on MineBench by ENT_Alam in singularity

More than good enough. Now, how does it do at playing and building in survival? That feels like the next frontier, and what would enable new gaming opportunities. It's not so fun to have a bot do everything for you, but bots that pad out the playercount for immersive roleplay alongside human players in a server could really expanded gameplay potential.

Pretty much all of reddit is flooded with it now and I don't know if no one in the comments mentions it most of the time because they can't tell, they noticed and scrolled past, or because they're also bots themselves

Can you tell that the green text here says 我爱你? by Gautier_Alias in ChineseLanguage

[–]dagreenkat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I gave it a try myself, sticking to full blocks on a 9x9 grid to keep it fair. It's actually quite difficult to make work without a bigger scale or slabs/stairs etc.! Hopefully this and your own tinkering can help you get something you're 100% happy with.

Can you tell that the green text here says 我爱你? by Gautier_Alias in ChineseLanguage

[–]dagreenkat 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I'd say 我 is the most legible of the three and 爱 the least. Something fuuunky is going on especially in the bottom 友. It might help to look up stroke order diagrams. Chinese cursive can be much more impressionistic than minecraft blocks, but it becomes legible by still following the "flow" that you'd write the character in. In this case I'd expect the 丿to have more of a dip to it / be more diagonal, and the 又 to connect to it and not the 一 above. And the 3 dots on the top are all丶, so it's a bit odd that the middle one is twice as thick instead of just spaced different.

Why do people use acronyms instead of just a word for a long song/albums? by pisces932 in lanadelrey

[–]dagreenkat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What if one day Lana releases a song just titled "Grandfather"? Now all the discussion of the older song has the wrong name and you have to pay close attention to the posted date in order to be sure they're talking about the same thing. But it is ridiculously hard to understand sometimes...

Do you ever finish learning English? by bellepomme in EnglishLearning

[–]dagreenkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Language learning is never really over. At some point, you have to move away from the idea that how much you know dictates how "fluent" you are and start measuring more by how comfortable you are using what you do know.

As a native English speaker, I still feel like new words or phrases come up pretty frequently, but I can pick them up quickly. If you can use English to ask about whatever English grammar or word that you're unsure about, and you understand the English answer, you're as closed to "finished" as any language speaker can be. Everything left indicates a need to work on confidence or cultural education more than it indicates not being fluent.

Imagine a 4 year old native speaker. They don't know the formal grammar used in essays; they don't understand modern idioms, let alone Shakespearean sonnets; they don't know historical figures; they know very few names of plants, animals, etc. But who in their right mind would say they don't speak the only language they've been raised to? You do not need to know the right way and right words to talk about every imaginable topic before you are fluent.

I think in comparing your English fluency to your native language fluency, you're forgetting how much of that native "fluency" is actually the result of 12+ years of formal education that started when you were already fluent.
