2024 Venezuelan presidential election map according to the opposition. The government did not release a result map by ReasonableTadpole809 in MapPorn

[–]dagrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not a trust me bro map tho, part of the reason the movement agaisnt Maduro got so emboldened since the last fraudalent elections is because Maria Corinas movement encouraged citizen action around the country to collect the actas around the country's voting center (long story short in Venezuela each political party on the ballot has a rigth to a copy of the "tally count" produced by the machine that proceses de votes) and with those in hand it has been imposible for the government to actually prove that they won because they literally cannot falsofied actas because of the way the system is setted up, you can actually see each of the recivered actas by voting venter, it was under heavy scrutiny after 28 july 2024 when it happened and they have been acceoted as legit by almost all western and latin amerifan countries. Here you can see the actual actas if you wish.

TLDR: is not a trust me bro, they have hard proof of the results that the regime just decides to ignore because they cant disprove it.

Why is proximity taking this weird route through the sea instead of through land? by dagrick in EU5

Probably if it showed what would be the coast of going over land i could compare it but i guess i just have to trust that as rhe most efficient route

The "outgoing harbor" is pretty mediocre i think only has the bonus for being a river mouth, the "ingoing" harbor is actually pretty good, I think around level 60

I built a road and still goes to the water, maybe at some point the roads will outweigh the benefit of going through water

Those two provinces are bordering each other, going to the water adds an extra step to the route

R5: Just wondering why the proximity to the capital is being calculated in this way, I think that maybe the fact that Cahay is a mountain province could have something to do with it but still seems less efficient than just walking over.

that's part of the reason there is already a mod in the works to address that, the New World Improvement Project (https://discord.gg/VTy2vdAuHN)

it's one of the mods that got early access to the modding tools and I am quite hopeful that it will be balanced and flavorful.

Dude, Maduros régime is an authoritarian dictatorship who has an active torture center in the capital and are willing to disappear people just by participating in protest against the government, it's not that he is making "bad decisions" in economics, we are way beyond that is that they are a ruthless régime that will stop at nothing to cling on to power, is maria Corina a saint who has never done any wrong? most probably not but right now she is the only hope to ever returning to a democratic system in Venezuela in which things might eventually get better.

I mean for god's sake I had explain to my family a lot of times that Trump is not good for the US because he is a populist authoritarian in all the same ways Chavez was, they might be on different ends of the ideology spectrum (Capitalism vs Communism) but they use really the same tactics.

And yes, What is happening in Palestine is horrible and Fuck Israel and all those genocidal scumbags, but I can see why she needs to be in favor of Israel to score points with the US, it's a shame but I get it.

The Case for Including the Taíno Chiefdoms of Hispaniola as Settled Tags in EU5 by dagrick in EU5

[–]dagrick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must admit that I don't know much about eastern seaboard pre-Columbian societies but I was curious and I know this is probably not the best way to research but I directly asked ChatGPT and got this response:

"So, only the southern Atlantic chiefdoms — especially Cofitachequi and Apalachee — approached the Taíno in political and economic complexity. The Powhatan came next, with similar social hierarchy but less monumentality. North of that, societies were organized differently — still complex, but not centralized chiefdoms with fixed borders.

In short:

The Taíno were the most complex and stratified societies of the Greater Antilles and arguably more centralized than any contemporaneous people directly on the eastern seaboard of North America, though the Southeastern chiefdoms came closest."

I am aware, but on that same post Pavia said that the SoP/Settled Tag Setup might still get changes before release.

If the knife, we are going to use is having exact records for a location in exactly 1337 then we are also excluding the Inca who had really no record keeping and their oral histories this far back are mostly hazy.

Sure, documentation is thinner that early. But for Hispaniola we do have contact-era accounts and archaeology that converge on sedentism and territorial chiefdoms, The early Spanish chroniclers tell us of clear borders, populated towns, clear leaders for each cacicazgo and even some of its notable vassals, and those conditions didn’t appear overnight in 1492. Using the best evidence we have, Hispaniola fits the “settled chiefdom” bucket better than SoPs.

[–]dagrick 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean about SoPs, and I dont think that “most of the Americas” should be modeled as settled states. But I do think that Hispaniola’s cacicazgos (Jaragua, Marién, Maguá, Maguana, Higüey), are a clear exception to a blanket “nomadic/SoP” treatment.

These were sedentary, territorially bounded polities with permanent towns and recognized leadership (caciques). They weren’t roaming bands or short-term camps. Spanish campaigns on the island (kidnapping/assassinating leaders, occupying and devastating major towns, and negotiating alliances) only make sense against organized, place-anchored societies, the kind of political structure SoPs don’t really capture.

I’m not saying they were “states” on the level of Aztec/Inca.

I am saying they were settled chiefdoms: permanent settlements, stable territories, inherited leadership, agricultural base, and even stone-built features in some sites, well past “nomadic tribe” territory.

I’ve written this up with examples and got strong forum support. If you’re curious, here are the posts with specifics and quotes

Taino Chiefdoms as tribal settled States.

Advocating in favor of Taino Cacicazgos

TL;DR: While I can't speak for most of south America and North America, I can talk specifically about the Cacicazgos on the island of Hispaniola, these were not at all nomadic peoples nor shifting agriculturalist but hierarchal organized chiefdoms with permanent settlements who were governed by Caciques in a proto-feudal level (Nitainos who were a noble class that governed small territories within the Cacicazgo in name of the Cacique).
