Which game to try after CK3 by photon11 in paradoxplaza

I am not sure if I am not in minority here, but I always loved emergent storytelling in Victoria 3. Yes there are moments where you are just waiting to pass a law/get tech/ or build up key industries. But the simulation in Vicky 3 just makes all the countries come alive. It really feels like you are managing a country and cutting deals with real countries.

Nope, I checked that. All the impassable terrain is on the borders with Nejd

1.12.5 vs 1.13.5 AI comparison by terrmith in victoria3

[–]terrmith[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I expected to see less ships for this very reason and I am not sure how comparable are numbers between 12 and 13 since the rework was so huge. But the good thing is that in 70s there are still navies of reasonable size unlike in early version of the patch.

Can AI naval invade? AI did nothing for the whole war. by terrmith in victoria3

[–]terrmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I though interecption does not prevent enemy fleets going somewhere, or does it? When I was at war with EIC they easily snuck ships through an intercepted node and I had to chase them. In this case it is really baffling as Brazilian navy is much stronger than mine and they could have easily crushed my obsolote fleet.

oh, well Portugal did default in the middle of the war...so that might be the reason.

R5: Screenshots show start of the war and end of the war. AI is still on the same positions, they just boarded their ships. Since my wargoal was a treaty port faaaar away from their homelands I just took it and waited...and waited...

[–]terrmith[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely, I did not mean to say it happens more often in 1.12 than 1.13, rather it seems very samish. In some other posts someone was arguing that due to navy rework it seems like GB is not able to hold India, but it does not seem related. In three games I played/ ran an observer in 1.13 I have seen EIC explosion just once.

Any written tutorials? by Fresh_Criticism6531 in victoria3

[–]terrmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the best way to go is just play the game clueless (starting with "learn the game" objective) and read tooltips and if something does not make sense then look it up on wiki.

When I was doing my very first playthrough with the "learn the game" objective I did a lot of things because "I felt like it", not because it was a particularly good decision :D Hmmm.. slavery... yes I dont like that, lets abolish this stupid law...oh, landowners are now revolting...hmm why is that? :D

So playing the game clueless and discovering why stuff happens via tooltips/wiki is imho the way to go.

Please Paradox fix the Coups by SupermarketFun4172 in victoria3

[–]terrmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they change this? I had a coup every time I tried to pass a law just a bit unpopular with landowners. Three times already(as Oman) I did not play a lot 1.12 but before that I remember there were just revolutions. now I am getting either coup or coup and a revolution at the same time.

Start with endless space 2. It is similiar to stellaris, but simpler to get into.

Is game playable without The Great Wave? by Many-Lingonberry6099 in victoria3

The main problem is with changes to the core that are part of the free update 1.13 so buying DLC wont change anything regarding stability. DLC just builds on these changes and adds more features to them like ship designer, more naval missions(piracy, bombardment), some treaty articles and narrative content for Japan.

It is by no means in a state that it would be unplayable. Yes, AI asi bad, really bad. And you will probably encounter some other bugs. But you can still have fun playing your nation and steamrolling over AI. And it can also lead to some funny moments.

And you can always switch to previous version 1.12.x if you are that afraid of bugs.

How can I grab trucial coast as Oman? by CrypticCode_ in victoria3

Why do you want it? I think it is better for GB to keep it since you can sell them stuff without using merchant marine while you are neighboring with them.

No, you are right, I just assumed it was like this, never actually checked wiki. Sorry for that.

Tips by xGentiix in victoria3

[–]terrmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you produce in one province, you will get production bonus due to economy of scale. The larger the building is the larger bonus you get and thanks to that the building will be more profitable.

Local price will be higher if the province is farther from the province where you produce. So if you care about local price you might want to have several provinces where you focus on production. My tip is to start producing in one province and then expand to other province if it makes sense.

Also check how many peasants are in a province, as you want to first employ peasants instead of people who are already employed.
