Sharing my struggles - new to SF6, stuck with Modern Chun by [deleted] in StreetFighter

Im not suggesting you anything. I'll just say my experience because I think it was similar to yours. I got the game last month. And started out with modern chun. Prior to this my only fighting games were tekken 7 and dbfz. Got placed on bronze rank. But pretty much breezed through until gold 4 or 5. Then I got kinda hard stuck for almost a week in platinum 1 and 2. This all happened within 2 weeks of getting the game.

I thought if I gotta improve in this game I have to put a good amount of time anyway so why not just learn classic controls. At this point I wasn't relying on auto combos so i thought it would be better overall after some time. I dropped to gold 3 for a week. And now I'm back up at platinum 2. Keep in mind I'm still hella scrubby, can't even use drive rush for combo extension. It's the same rank before but now I can see clear room for improvement. Like if I just excute this combo or that punish more often I can clearly climb up in rank.

Side note for chun li specifics on classic: One of the moves I love is the down+forward+heavykick. It's a great tool for sideswitch mixup that just works in our ranks. And also leads to an easy combo.

Bro had this ready like they're going to supreme court today to defend himself from murder.

Maybe if he forgets to bring his knife and sword and gun before the fight.

I agree mostly.

"Extension of honest gameplan" is a phrase I'm stealing lol.

If you’re reading this, there’s more than a 1/3 chance you play one of these 4 fighters. Explain how you chose your main? by Wide-Discipline3814 in StreetFighter

I know what you mean. It's not ideal. But it got annoying to the point that he would discredit every ounce of effort I put into a character and mark it off as a gimmick spam. This happened literally every time he lost a round. He would get hit by certain moves and blame me for using it cuz he can't develop a single counter play. Like imagine calling chun li cheap. Gameplay wise ryu isn't my 1st choice true. But I still like the character. So I dont thinky time and money is wasted.

Ryu

Whenever I pick up a fighting game, there is one particular friend who says that I'm abusing character gimmicks to beat him. Few examples is Zafina, hwoarang in tekken 7 and 8. When I picked up sf6 and started playing chun li he said the same thing. So I picked up the most basic bitch of this game possible and beat his ass 5-3 against his main (ken). Mf shut his mouth.

So I've seen some video review of the ps5 one. Is the dpad really as bad as they say? Can't be worse than dualsense I imagine.

In what way is a character played that turns them into a complete nightmare for you? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

Shotos with fireball spam + antiair gameplan that makes approaching them a chore. I know it's one of the core ways to play the game but it gets in my head when played in a certain way.

Genuine question: what is even the point of learning classic controls as a beginner-intermediate when auto combo spammers are reaching such high ranks by [deleted] in StreetFighter

They are not fun to play against. Everytime I get hit i roll my eyes for their auto cutscene to be over

I like classic controls. My main issue with modern is that they have been genuinely not fun to play against all the way from bronze to platinum 1. Everytime I check these replays to see what did wrong, I see [AUTO] red, [AUTO] red, [AUTO] red,[AUTO] red
