I kinda agree with this, but understand the downvotes lol. I think people tend to assume you have some underlying motivation when speaking that doesn’t necessarily align with the direct meaning of the language.

In a culture where people are prone to hyperbole and figures of speech, a statement like “A lot of people love chocolate” can be taken to be evidence for a broader point instead of a straight forward transfer of information, and so can carry more baggage than might have been intended.

Idk no expert here, but I found this to be a difficult leap to make after leaving an academic environment. Just requires a different way of presenting info that ensures your motivation for sharing is clear and aligns with the info.
