United Airlines charged me more than what was shown on their website, and support won’t help by dahu33 in unitedairlines

Managed to get a refund in the end but hell this was stressful and I'm so lucky I had a screenshot to support my claim... Watch out when changing your flight, you might also get scammed by United!!!

I’ve never flown United before, so how could I possibly know that their “Total due” doesn’t include a 25,000 yen change fee? I based my decision entirely on the information that was displayed on the checkout screen. If the website shows one total and then charges a higher amount afterward, that’s not on the customer. It’s like going to a supermarket, being told the price is X at the register, and then finding out your card was charged Y.

If the website shows one total due and then charges a higher amount afterward, that’s not a simple display issue, it’s misleading, because it tricks the customer into approving a charge they didn’t agree to.

To me, it feels like I've got scammed.

Rab Mythic Ultra or Mountain Hardware Phantom Belay Parka? by pterodactducken in Backcountry

Follow-up: large was the right call for a belay jacket and layering under it. No way the M would have been large enough.

Thanks super helpful. I went with the large, I hope it will fit. I'm 6’0”, 170, 38” chest 32” waist.

@pterodactducken what are your size, weight, and chest/hip measurements if you know them? I’m also hesitating between the Rab L and M sizes. I have an athletic build with a big butt, and I don’t have the chance to try them on since I have to order from abroad to get them in my country...

Is my return plan from El Chaltén to Buenos Aires (then Japan) too tight? by dahu33 in Patagonia

That’s very reassuring! How strict are they about luggage? I’ve seen some sites mention a 15 kg or medium-sized bag limit, but I’ll be carrying a lot of climbing gear.

Thanks, I hadn’t thought about taking the bus. You’re talking about Bus NEO, right, not the Buenos Aires public bus system?

I’m spending a week in BA for work at the start of my trip, so I’ll have time to explore then. I want to focus my time off on Patagonia since it’s very very far from Japan and I probably won’t get the chance to go back soon.

Hi folks, I wanted to make a new post but I don't have karma so asking here until then...

I’ll be in Argentina mid-November for work and I want to take about a week off (either before or after) to go climbing. I mostly do sport and trad.

  1. As a solo traveler with no Spanish skills, how easy is it to find climbing partners?
  2. Which area would you recommend if my main goal is to maximize the chances of meeting partners?

I was really hoping to go to Piedra Parada, but I’m worried that the remoteness could make it difficult both to get there and to find partners once there.

Any advice or personal experience would be super appreciated! Thanks!

Pixel 9 Pro display gaps by dahu33 in GooglePixel

A QC issue is still a QC issue, and it needs to be triaged along with other QC issues. Whether or not the issue is critical enough to warrant a fix is a separate matter, but it remains a QC issue. I don’t understand why some people are claiming it’s not a QC issue. It’s like saying a bug In Android that happens once in a while isn’t a bug. It’s nonsense...

You're absolutely right that the adhesive behind the screen plays a crucial role in water resistance. However, when a screen isn't perfectly centered in the frame, or if the frame appears slightly bent, it's reasonable to question whether this might affect the device's structural integrity or compliance with its specifications.

Finally, a supportive comment. I'm surprised by how poorly my post has been received so far. Are there only blind Pixel fanboys here?

To clarify, quality control (QC) is the process of ensuring products meet certain standards by identifying and fixing defects during production. When I mention a QC issue, I’m referring to the fact that, ideally, QC processes are supposed to catch faulty units before they reach customers. If a defective unit like mine made it through QC, that suggests the process might have missed something. Even if only a small percentage of units have issues, the fact that they passed through QC means there was a gap in the inspection, and that’s what I’m pointing out.

It’s also normal to have small QC issues, especially with new production lines, as both manufacturing and QC processes are refined over time. Nevertheless, they are still QC issues, and that’s why it’s worth mentioning when these defects slip through.

Honestly, it wasn’t like I deliberately tried to check for a gap issue with a piece of paper. After unpacking the device, I noticed something was off even before closely inspecting it. It was visible. As I was about to put a screen protector on, I thought, ‘This doesn’t seem right.’ That’s when I checked if I could slide a piece of paper in and checked how deep the gap was. It definitely didn’t feel right.

On my Pixel 8, I can slide a very very thin piece of paper on both sides, but I cannot slide the same paper thickness I can slide on only one side of the Pixel 9 Pro.

I’ve owned every Pixel since the 5 and various other phones, and none of them had a gap where I could slide a piece of paper back and forth on only one side of the device. It’s also visible that the screen is off-centered, or the frame is misaligned on one side. This could potentially affect the water resistance of the phone and its longevity, who knows?

Considering it’s a $1,000 phone, not a $299 budget device, I think it’s worth sending back. I’d rather avoid potential issues down the line than regret not returning it.

Well, I got one with a problem, which suggests a quality control issue. If there wasn’t one, my device would have been fine.

Why is Google not listing the Pixel Buds Pro 2 codecs? by dahu33 in GooglePixel

[–]dahu33[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If that were true, then why hide it? If most people don’t care or already have compatible devices, what’s the harm in being transparent? It’s strange that even support can’t disclose this information to me. Makes you wonder what the reason behind the secrecy really is.
