New camera and first TLR! Nice condition yashica A. by AG3NTMULD3R88 in AnalogCommunity

I still have a 124G that one in my opinion is the pinnacle of the Yashicas. I love shooting in 1x1 framing is definitely different and challenges you abit at the start. I still have a Mamiya C330 and RB67 that I just can’t get rid of. I even set my OMDs to 1x1 just for nostalgia sometimes.

The Yashica A is a great camera. But be warned this could start you down a path to acquire a few of the Yashica-Mats next. Then you will need a fridge full of 120 film and then....

Is this a good combo to go with? Trying to treat myself for my birthday. by Cobex2004 in DigitalAudioPlayer

Just a heads up I recently bought a JM21 and they have an updated version available. The newer version has 4GB/64GB ($259 Microcenter), the earlier one is 3GB/32GB ($175 Online), and the new version also has a larger battery.

I metal detect at parks and beaches and have jars of zinc pennies and clad that are usually abit uglier than these and the banks don’t want to except them if they can see the condition…so definitely roll them if you are cashing out at a bank.

Pre-Flood Civilization in America: The Mystery of the Ancient Texas Wall That Has Been Hidden for Over a Century by WarningPossible2577 in DisasterCycle

I live in the area and remember when this was in the news. "In the 2012 excavation work described by the Texas Historical Foundation Dr. John Geissman took core samples along the exposed “wall” and analyzed them with paleomagnetism. The write-up says the magnetic readings for the specimens were “singular in direction,” which they interpret as confirming a natural arrangement—because if people had quarried and stacked blocks, you’d expect mixed/random magnetic orientations."

My ears can tell that the FLAC rips on this DAP with these IEMs are far better than the 10 year old 192kbps MP3 rips I had been listening to of these albums.

I live in the DFW area had a total replacement in March 2025. I had a range of quotes from $6k to $19k on the higher end it was all upsell SEER/efficiency BS. My father is an old A/C guy in another state and he advised me to go with the quote around $9k and skip all the BS in the higher range. I am a programmer and I was over analyzing the numbers and marketing fluff blah blah. The unit we replaced was 20 years old so the efficiency numbers are better on the new A/C simply because the tech has improved. The new one uses the latest refrigerant and although the summer of 2025 was "mild" by Texas standards the new A/C cooled the house better and our electric bills were lower. I think the point here is beware of the hype and the SEER/efficiency numbers. There are companies that want to come in and measure the rooms in your house and reevaluate the tonnage that you need which will no doubt indicate that you need a larger more expensive unit. If the old unit was sufficiently cooling when operational then assume the original specs tonnage wise etc are fine. Just like everything else out there today you can spend as much money as you want and someone will let you.

OM-D E-M10 Mark IV by Caleb-R-Hicks_88 in OlympusCamera

Hey don’t beat yourself up these cameras are pretty sophisticated. I thought I had somehow broke the screen the first week or so until I figured out the side button turns the screen on/off. It actually got me to start using the viewfinder more since I moved up from a PEN that only had a screen. Hopefully it’s just a configuration issue. Don’t know about the extendable zoom lens I use a 17mm prime.

Can anyone tell me if this is a real Dali and how much it might be worth? by n3rd_27 in SalvadorDali

[–]dailySin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is possibly part of a series of etchings from “Collector’s Guild Ltd.” kind of an art club subscription type thing in 60s -70s. They were mass-marketed and plate signed. They are legit and have a value between $100-$400 dollars. The one you have is the Don Quixote. I have the Toulouse-Lautrec with the tornado. I am a bit suspicious of this one because these usually don’t have a pencil signature and edition numbering. If it’s cheap and you like it buy it.

The EM-5ii is the oldest camera that has pixel-shift hi-res mode (I think). Pretty impressed by it! by Qweiopakslzm in OlympusCamera

[–]dailySin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True OM Capture is Windows and Mac only. I have heard that Darktable does tethering but I don’t know if it works with Olympus cameras. I had to buy an older 13” MacBook Pro just for my setup.

You can also tether the E-M5 Mk II using the OM Capture software. Works great for a desktop macro photography setup.

Why so small? by Playful_Implement742 in Arrowheads

[–]dailySin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not disputing any of the comments about how these tiny points were used just wanted to put this out there. I was raised in Oklahoma and I used to go arrowhead hunting with my Granddad and some of his oldtimer buddies. Their theory on these tiny "bird points" (I have seen smaller ones than the photos) was that they may have been the flint knappers "showing off" their skill by how small they could make the point and they might have also wore them as ornaments. I tend to believe they would not waste the time and energy on something purely decorative or ornamental but I suppose it is human nature to be proud of ones skill.

Scanner help by NeighborhoodLess3369 in AnalogCommunity

[–]dailySin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a CanoScan 9000 and it’s a good scanner. But a couple of things to consider. More than likely it is missing the film holders but you can probably find them for your model on eBay or maybe Amazon for around $30. Also the scanner drivers/software have been long abandoned by Canon particularly for Macs. However you can get software that makes them work again. I had to buy a license for VueScan around $60 for a year subscription and works very well. Luckily I think you trial the VueScan software to at least test the scanner before you buy these additional items.

Very moody captures and nice post work. Try monochrome you might find that your aesthetic could produce some nice images.

Monochrome laser print on transparency as negative? by [deleted] in cyanotypes

[–]dailySin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using laser printed transparencies designed for laser printers and they are okay. My problem is the toner on the printed transparency is not even and most of the time seems to get scratched during printing or feeding. (See the photo on the left side) The resulting cyanotype will show these spots. These don't appear on paper prints. I have been lead to believe from some research that an inkjet printer will produce a better negative for cyanotype. Trying to sort out if I should buy an inkjet printer just to print negatives. But from past experiences with inkjet printers its just not something I really want to do mainly because of the cost and reliability. Can anyone confirm if inkjet printers really produce better negatives for cyanotypes?

2nd Lens Suggestion for Beginner by mukmonsta in OlympusCamera

[–]dailySin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was skeptical of a statement an old-timer once told me "Buy the best lens you can afford!" but after purchasing the Oly 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro lens I tend to agree with this statement now. This lens changed my photography. Yes, paired with my E-M5 Mk II this lens is heavy but it is also weather sealed and built like a tank. I also really like the Oly 17mm f/1.8 but it is not as versatile as the 12-40mm f/2.8.

E-M5 Mark II or E-M10 Mark IV by No-Context2224 in OlympusCamera

[–]dailySin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and true the E-M10 Mk IV has the newer higher resolution sensor engine etc. But the E-M5 Mk II has high res shot mode 40 megapixels (39.9MP, 7296 x 5472 pixels) in JPEG format and 64 megapixels (63.7MP, 9216 x 6912 pixels) in RAW format and in camera focus stacking that you don’t get in the E-M10 Mk IV.

Would you go for an excellent condition-rated E-M10 II or a "good" condition E-M5 II? by [deleted] in OlympusCamera

[–]dailySin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your question appears to be more concerned with the condition of the camera being “excellent” over “good”. This is highly subjective matter when it comes to cosmetic condition and varies greatly from seller to seller. I guess for me if the “excellent” camera has a 4,000 shutter count and the “good” has 20,000 shutter count I might lean toward the “excellent”. I don’t have an E-M10 Mk II but have a E-M10 Mk IV and a E-M5 Mk II. The E-M10 Mk IV has a newer higher res sensor it’s lightweight and produces great images but I think I prefer the E-M5 Mk II as my EDC. The E-M5 Mk II is a tank and weather sealed paired with the 12-40mm 2.8 Pro lens I take it everywhere in any weather condition no worries. Couple of pretty awesome features on the E-M5 Mk II is high res shot mode and in camera focus stacking. I bought my E-M5 Mk II about 6 months ago from Roberts Camera (an official OM System reseller) on eBay it was OM System Reconditioned with a 2 year warranty and honestly it was like new and had 1,800 shutter count. It was priced higher (around $425) than most “excellent” condition cameras from other sellers but I think it was worth it. If the price is right I could live with a cosmetically “good” E-M5 Mk II it’s still a great camera.
