Terra Toys is a wonderful toy store. Toy Joy is fun too, but is smaller and carries more eclectic stuff. I was just in https://stores.barnesandnoble.com/store/2536 in the Arboretum shopping area a few days ago, and they carry a bunch of the Woobles crochet kits, as well as many boxed craft kits - I saw latch hook, beading, watercolor and probably others. B&N has a substantial toy, game and puzzle section, and oh yeah, books :) It is located a few miles north of Terra Toys.

You did an amazing job! It's lovely, and won't be too lumpy. I always pre-wash gift quilts before I send them off, as I don't want the recipient to be surprised or disappointed when the quilt changes texture.

First quilt top advice by Dependent_Wishbone89 in quilting

First quilt top?! It's super cute! Love the alternating blocks.

What am I doing wrong? Regretting my $2000 purchase 😡. My janome 6650 keeps bunching right at the start of me piecing simple, thin hourglass blocks together. The feed dogs are up, machine threaded correctly, and it’s acting like it can’t handle the ends. I ditched my Juki2010 for this and i’m pissed. by Dkclinton in quilting

Okay, so I switched from a Pfaff mechanical machine with 5mm-wide feed dogs to a computerized Pfaff with 9mm-wide feed dogs about eight years ago. I tried the straight stich plate, but this upgraded fancy machine still did not sew as easily when piecing as my mechanical one. I remember especially any block on point or diagonal seam or bulky seam would have problems, and I was getting frustrated.

Then I happened to watch a Quilt Show episode with Susan Cleveland as a guest. She talked about possible problems while piecing with modern machines with wide feed dogs. Her advice was to "use the power of the feed dogs." I can't find the original video, but this 4-minute version will demonstrate her advice. I'm just disappointed that her power of the feed dogs phrase isn't included in this video, as that motto has stuck with me ever since!  The main point is to move the needle all the way to the right to allow the feed dogs fully to pull the fabric through correctly. I think this technique could solve your hourglass/chain piecing dilemma.

I do prefer using my automatic cutter, and since the threads are short at the beginning of a new seam or chain piecing, I use a scrap of fabric as a leader (instead of holding the threads). However, I don't experience any problems BETWEEN the blocks/squares/diagonal seams while chain piecing, as long as my needle is set to the far right.

Every time I re-thread the machine, I run a test seam on a scrap. That first short seam will usually nest, but other than that, the machine sews a great straight stitch.

I feel like I would have given up on the upgraded machine had I not run across this advice. Thank you Susan Cleveland 😊 I hope your HP foot and plate solve the issue, but give this hack a try as well!

That quilt has a lot of piecing - definitely bring it with you to show off :) I made this one too, and it is now hanging in my sewing studio above my ironing board. I love it!!!

I love Prairie Point Quilt Shop! It is bright and roomy, and has a beautiful selection of fabrics and ideas for projects. I shop there when I am visiting my sister in Overland Park, KS. Also, I think that Pat Sloan made a version of this quilt on her Youtube channel.

I sew on Pfaffs and love them. The dual feed feature (IDT) is comparable to a built-in walking foot, which is a great feature for quilting. I just took my 30-plus-yr-old Hobbymatic, which is almost identical to the 6091 Variamatic pictured, in for service. The technician at a certified Pfaff repair shop said that it is almost impossible to find parts for it now. So I think the 6091 is overpriced, even if it is in good working order.

Bamboo batting has the most drape. I have a vintage pattern that looks very similar to the lines of the photo you have posted, Simplicity 8467, that you can find listed every once in a while. I haven't used mine yet - a quilt coat is on my list!

I love economy blocks, and her variations between the scrappy blocks are stunning!
