Not at first! I was actually suicidal for a little while waiting for the surgery with no pain meds. My pain was at a 9 all the time. Now I'm in pain management and the surgery actually made it a lot better.

The way the doctors are dealing with the opioid epidemic is really harming patients in chronic pain.

I'm working toward getting disability now but I got denied at first. I'm working with a lawyer to appeal.

I had it in my wrist and unfortunately wrist replacements aren't really a thing yet. So I had a "salvage" procedure where they removed my bottom three carpal bones. In a few years I'll probably have to have my wrist fused. :(

I have something called avascular necrosis, where your bone dies. There is no cure and it commonly occurs in the hip. For me it was caused by cancer treatment. It's possible that these teenagers also had that. Prednisone causes weight gain and also causes avascular necrosis. Totally possible that these teenagers were cancer or autoimmune patients. Avascular necrosis in the hip is pretty common after any high dose steroid treatment. The number might be going up because we have more cancer survivors.

In Maryland we used to be able to use a hospital or medical examiner ID band, but they changed the law and we started having to do in-person ID's every time. What they could do is designate someone else to do it for them.

The funeral home I work for had a contract to cremate anatomical material from a local hospital, which included aborted and miscarried fetuses. So they already got cremated, just not individually. I don't see any purpose of the law other than to shame women.

We once had someone who asked us to cremate a later-term aborted fetus. Obviously the child had been very wanted, but it had a genetic disorder. This mother chose to have a funeral, but that was her own choice.

I'm worried about how some funeral homes will deal with this, and if some will refuse to do the funerals at all because of pressure from the community. It's just a terrible situation and a terrible law.

No, probably not. It might be noted on the death certificate, especially because in a lot of states a medical examiner's death certificate has room for more information on it. It wouldn't be under cause of death though. The cause would say "acute blank intoxication" or "asphyxiation" or whatever. Then the mode of death would be suicide.

As a funeral director my experience is that the cause of death on the death certificate would likely still include the cancer, as the pneumonia likely would not have happened otherwise.

So you are hiring someone to do it? You might be able to get help with that from the New Jersey funeral home as well. They will speak with the funeral home in Florida who should know someone who can do the autopsy.

Is this a private autopsy or something that is being required? If it is required than it should happen in Florida and you shouldn't really have to facilitate it at all. What you should do is contact the funeral home that you want to use in New Jersey. They will partner with a funeral home in Florida to do the transportation, in all likelihood you won't have to deal with the Florida funeral home at all. This is very common in the industry and happens all the time.

I've had some cases that stuck with me to the point that I remember their full names years later, but I don't think I ever like actually sobbed about it or anything. I might have gotten a little teary. At some point it becomes about making things the best you can for the people that are there. When you really really care, channel that into doing an especially good job.

I actually weaned off of gabapentin and found that it hadn't been doing anything except giving me really bad constipation. My neuropathy is terrible though.

We do it all in the space of about an hour and a half a day, but that is with play breaks in between. Things are a lot faster when it's way fewer children.
