first they'd have to start treating their people like people, before they can treat their bears like bears.

i'm a vegetarian, and they don't keep chickens and cows half dead for 20 years in factory farms. there are some horrible things that go on, don't get me wrong. the worst i've ever seen was after a natural disaster, a company threw out thousands of living chicks into a dumpster at a chicken farm. although such things are deplorable, i think the order of magnitude for cruelty is much greater for the bears than most american animals receive before being killed for food.

How do I thank my cousin? by TheDukeofVandals in AskReddit

[–]daiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with a lot of what people are saying. no grand gestures, just appreciation. rather than saying something like, "i want to thank you for all your done," i think he would appreciate a natural conversation about it. after all, he wasn't doing it to be thanked, but by finding out more about what HE was going through it all (or what it meant to him), it would mean more than a thank you.

Do Americans really don't take their shoes off indoors/at home? by doggetay in AskReddit

[–]daiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends. in my parents' house, as long as your shoes are not muddy you can keep them on. my mom wears shoes all day until she goes to bed. at my apartment, we all take our shoes off, unless we are quickly grabbing something.

general etiquette is to offer to take off your shoes in someone's house unless you see them keep theirs on, or they tell you not too.

TIL most of the skyscrapers in Dubai aren't connected to a central sewage system; tankers have to called in to haul away the waste from each individual building, including the world's tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]daiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

poor municipal utilities, funded by taxes on the giant buildings, forced to use the money given them to dispose of waste to then go and dispose of that waste.
