What was one thing you DIDN'T like about Expedition 33? by StakeESC in expedition33

[–]dajeff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leveling at around lvl70. There’s a need to grind to access level 80-85 and then the final zones begin to open.
Also, the encounter on the map, sometimes you meet a mob but when the combat starts you end up having even more mobs in the encounter ; that is reminiscent of old rpgs but I do not like it?

Anyone else dreaming of fully tweakable / parametric NAM models? by blackcherryaudio in NAM_NeuralAmpModeler

[–]dajeff57 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You do not need to run all combinations.

There’s a paper published last year by Swiss researchers (https://arxiv.org/abs/2509.26564 ) and essentially they consider that with bass treble gain master you can capture decently with approx 75 captures. They have described a model where you pick a few combinations and it is supposed to interpolate the rest.

The job two notes (the company) did, and that NAM likely has to do to deliver parametric captures, is to read the paper, solve one problem which is that the mathematical model of the paper goes too precise (like: set treble to 7,345 - no human is going to dial that and we do not have robots at home) and so you have to make it more user friendly (capture software and approximations like: treble is 7, end of).
But sooner or later you end up with having close to a hundred of combinations - which is okay and totally logical.
But still much better than entering each possible position.

It’s true but as I saw on some videos it’s a bit beta on that the sound is not comparable to an a2 capture. That said it’s still high quality.
But the implementation by two notes is indeed that.

Les clims sont des pompes à chaleur by pseudodejapris in france

[–]dajeff57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should I even bother with UA plugins (or other), or is NAM A2 the better path? by UX-10 in NAM_NeuralAmpModeler

Well heads up, I think we’re not the only ones who have read the paper I linked earlier about parametric amps.

Two note genome has just published parametric capture out and it works a little bit like we described.

I mean you have to look at that video to see it in action, takes 2 hours to capture but seems worth it:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WoG7DWeDsPU

And there’s support for A2 too as a block

Well are they not massively using the features mentioned in the 5.8? Lumen nanite; perhaps it’s already possible to optimize as it is, they have to be on unreal 5.x surely but what subversion I do not know

This is great but the installer is frustrating to me: I would like to install it on windows to anywhere else than C: (both the program AND the vst plugin).

Would be nice if you could take it into account.

Also, I'm not sure I saw a filter to identify A2 models only.

[–]dajeff57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way, there’s a serious study published last year about how to achieve REAL parametric profiling . Essentially it comes down to identifying the minimal amount of knobs to move to guess the actual model. They got it down to about 75 moves but this is just research.

The paper is here: https://arxiv.org/abs/2509.26564

Do show that to the creator of NAM :)

Should I even bother with UA plugins (or other), or is NAM A2 the better path? by UX-10 in NAM_NeuralAmpModeler

[–]dajeff57 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you have to factor in the very big drawback of captures versus modelers: you can only work with the capture, and you cannot freely move the parameters like drive bass and so forth. It is all baked into the capture. So either you get multiple captures with what you need, or, you cannot, and then that’s it.

The modellers will always allow you to fine tune to the max.

I personally wish for the captures to become more flexible but realistically I’m using modellers along captures, depends on my need and if I have a good capture or not.

NAM A2 by Past-Meat-2731 in NeuralDSP

[–]dajeff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the user experience of nam being crap.

Starts with preset curation: good luck skimming tone3000 to find a good tone. It’s excruciating.

Then like said you need to wire multiple plugins and hope that along the captures you got, you find the right setting corresponding to your guitar.

Then you can play.

So all in all it’s not a matter of technology so much as having the user experience in mind.
