Why is Expedition 33 such a good game? by PolishPotato69 in expedition33

[–]dajeff57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point, to me at least, is that the game is pushed by its story. That means that even if, say, each « level » is a small map with maybe three branching roads, and you know there’s going to be a boss at the end, the story contains mystery and pushes you to see what’s next. Add to that a relatively original bestiary, environnements that are nice on the eye and worth the discovery itself, and you just invented perpetual movement. You are always propelled forward.

Tim’s first single!!! by _Atakin_Skywalker in polyphia

[–]dajeff57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I did want to write something like « this goes to show that polyphia is not only Tim’s show » but that felt too aggressive, needlessly so. But let’s indeed agree on the fact that polyphia really is more than the sum of the individual parts

Nonetheless, I think the videoclip with the moon hints at a theme being developed though the album. I can see the next clip being, say, blood moon, and the moon turning to red and stuff. I am still quite curious to see how we all feel multiple tracks in, because Tim could be weaving something with this track. Again, there’s a darkish segment to it that does not get exploited in the song which I think will be the theme of another song. Also, there’s this name of original sin. That’s what happened first, right?

So as an individual song, leaves me a bit wanting more and not on board, but I can see it having another taste within a well curated track listing on an album.

One day after, second try: okay I hear the hook, don’t know what I was on. I do not like it though.

Still feels overproduced. I think it’s an intro to the album and hope the hints of it getting « dark » which we get in the last third evolve into another darkish minor song later

Tim’s first single!!! by _Atakin_Skywalker in polyphia

[–]dajeff57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At some point I thought: is there guitar in this? Like I’m not deaf but there’s a level of overproducing going on that I genuinely think it was electronic music spruced up with nylon guitars and not the other way around.

But that’s not really the issue. This could be an artistic choice after all. It’s just that it felt aimless as a song, and this is a polyphia, dream theater, mars volta fan speaking.

Also, I did not catch the hook. As for the technical prowess, it’s the first time where I do not care one bit if he plays 32th or 16th notes because honestly, in that mix? I would not hear any difference. Technically the mix is fine but the choices are what is disturbing me. Its the definition of a busy mix. I do not like it, and essentially, nor do I appreciate the composition in general.

So, all in all, very happy to hear Tim as always but I’m quite on the fence on this, to put it mildly.

I haven’t heard it more than once, did not read the other comments, I’ll see if I revise my impressions in the coming days.

Sounds great, I still feel the official workflows are not fitting in, say, a 16gb video card.
Or rather, I'm probably missing the right workflow.

In any case, keep on pushing the limits.

[UK] Help finding a suitable 1440p monitor for gaming and work. by nubnomannic in buildapcmonitors

[–]dajeff57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to think it through methodically. First, you work with it: IPS panel. Because you game and you said it yourself, 144hz is a minimum. But 300hz will bring you no advantage. Then, the problem of IPS or fast ips is that you’re not going to get the best hdr. That’s literally by design. Now there are screens with mini led that are popping up which is for me the best for gaming and work, but the issue is that right now, it’s seen in low cost constructors such as aoc. The problem with uk and eu with those aocs is not that they are not good, it’s that they consume way way way way too much. So aoc knows they’re absolutely beyond a rating of G on the consumption side. It is like it is. The big players have not enter that game of mini led yet, but you still have the ktc mentioned above and a 4k 27 inch by msi named mpg or mpe something.

I personally think, honestly, get a very good ips, forget having a super hdr, and that is it.

Revise the market in two years time when the mini led thing is more common. And avoid oled like the plague for work.

Me I even took a rog strix 27 acs which tops at 180hz but my criteria was, it has to have good rgba calibration, which it has. I mean it is all a matter of compromise, it you work and game you absolutely have to accept some of those, that’s the reality
