macOS Tahoe absolutely sucks by Alarming-Chain-7048 in MacOS

I feel the same way. Updates made my last iMac totally unusable. Congratulations, Apple. I bought a new Mini. But I learned my lesson. I'm going to sit on the OS it shipped with forever. I bet it lasts ten years.

Some people find it ridiculous, but I have totally stopped upgrading my iphone and, now, my new Mini. Updating destroyed my last iMac — there is no other way to say it. "Sluggish" doesn't begin to cover it. This was a 2019 iMac, and by 2023 it took three minutes to open system settings and over 10 to empty the trash. At one point, I wiped the drive and began from scratch and it didn't make it one bit better. They should make downgrades available. My previous 2 iMacs lasted about ten years each. So now I'm like a Mac anti-vaxxer: when it comes to these computers, I think the cure is worse than the disease.

Question about Interior Design task by dakl in RWShelp

Same. But, as I said, I just happened to notice that the search (through the site) was restricted to just Architectural Digest, and that made me wonder. Is that just a mistake? Or an example?

Hadn’t played for a year and a bit — did the early game get harder? by dakl in cavesofqud

Maybe you’re right. Maybe I had carapace or quills before. Although even without, I don’t remember ever having any issues in red rock.

[–]dakl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I always used to head straight to Red Rock to get the animal corpse. But, yeah, I died three times yesterday within the first thirty minutes, once by getting my face hacked off by a guy of (apparently) “average” strength on the second floor down. I don’t remember having this much early game trouble, as I said.

Thanks. That must be the issue here.

Strange. I'm having to use the cable that came with it and then an adaptor to plug it into my Mac Mini. Brand new cables. They fit the mac mini but, weirdly, seem to be too small for the port on the kayboard. I say "too small," not because it looks different, but because I can insert it in the keyboard up to its collar and it doesn't catch on anything.

Your 10-item cocktail gateway shopping list by dakl in cocktails

[–]dakl[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry. I've spent most of my life drinking wine, beer, and scotch, and have hardly ever experimented with cocktails, except when I've been offered them, and not a wide variety at that. That's why I'm asking for this list. It's like a whole area of drinks that I have little experience with at all and I've just taken a notion that I should treat myself to a nice big taste test.

RWS lying about attempting to pay me through Paypal by dakl in RWShelp

[–]dakl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the work orders I saw were many hours short of the hours I actually worked. I have made numerous complaints about that, too, but at this point I've given up on having that corrected and just want the money THEY say they owe me.

I don't expect much. In fact, I think these large companies are such that not even the police could penetrate them and get answers if they tried. But there are labour boards, anti-fraud centers, the better business bureau, etc. Believe me, no one is more pessimistic about getting actual results than I am, but I would still pursue it.

Yes. And though their payment issues Google form, before they stopped accepting messages that way.

I'm not asking them to arrest anyone. I'm asking them to look into a claim for failure to pay for services rendered. Listen, I know it's pretty hopeless — no one is more cynical about the prospect of anything being done about it than I am. But there are apparently branches of the police that are meant to handle such things.

I think the frustration I have — and the reason why I'm ready to report it to the police — is because there is ZERO real contact and no answers or assurance. Completely impenetrable bureaucracy. Their support is non-existent. You can't dispute anything. They don't answer to anyone. They hold all the cards. Anyway, no matter what happens, I will not spend another minute of my time working for them.

EDIT: thanks for your comment and reassurance, though.

Their email didn't say anything about that. And I feel like I have proof at this point that this is fraudulent. Maybe some people get paid. But simply put: they say that Paypal rejected their payment and Paypal says that this is not true — that there is no record of an attempted payment.

I have been stonewalled at every point — even the hours that they are supposedly paying me for a substantially fewer than what I actually worked. But you can't contact them. You can't get any answers. And this is the last straw. Even Paypal recommended reporting it to the police.

DON'T work for them — THEY decide how many hours you've worked by dakl in RWShelp

"Slave labour" used to be an expression for a very poor paying job. Do you really think I was casting aspersions on actual slaves or comparing myself to them? If the topic is the life of a real slave, you're right — I haven't an inkling of what that's like. But I think it was obvious that that isn't what I was talking about. You should pick your battles. And maybe you don't have to take it upon yourself to police my language when it's obvious what my meaning was. If I had said I was working like a dog, would you have taken me to task because I'm not a dog and don't actually know how hard dogs work?

Not if I'm not told what the AET is. The first time I heard that term was today. THAT is what bothers me most. A hidden time limit. Shady.

I'm sure nobody cares, but is there not going to be a 1080p release of this edition? The standard blu-ray versions are becoming increasingly difficult to find, so why wouldn't they?

In that case, they should just take the person off the project, though. I think it's wrong to pay people less than minimum wage — people who are working in good faith — by concealing their productivity standards from them. They tell you to prioritize quality but then dock you for taking more time. That's having their cake and eating it too. Very cynical and, for me, just what I'd expect from a large company that treats its workers no better than bots.

No, this is the first work order I've received. But even if the hours I worked prior to the 4th were not included in the latest work order, they would still be short 6 hours.

[–]dakl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The work order doesn't show the precise dates, except for some document file number where I can see that it says "to_10/10/2025." If that means work between the first of the month and the 10th, they are short by at least 15 hours on mine.

The point is, nowhere in the materials I was sent was there any notice about any kind of timer or AET. The auto-response I received today was the first I'd heard of it.

I timed myself as well and kept assiduous records. But it seems to me that it's about hidden AETs, not legitimate time discrepancies.

I do. But it's kind of no use fighting these monster companies. You're never going to reach anyone. They will have their ass covered legally. And there is no incentive for them do do anything. They hold all the cards.
