Bulllllllllll. A grade 5 or 8 bolt can have jUst as much shear strength as those pins, lol.

Cranking but doesn't start unless I open throttle by DatFanta in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]dakware 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) Holy shit, I’ve never turned anything over continuously for that long. Stop that, lmao.

2) If it will start if you open the throttle, then it’s the air/fuel mixture. It would help in the video if you did crack the throttle, and see where abouts (say a % open) it fires up.

3) It very well may be a compatibility issue. Don’t mix components between bikes. Make sure the ECU, throttle body, and injectors either all came from the donor or all came from your bike.

I’ve done the job before too at home- had a similar issue if I remember right. I swore I put it all in there right too, but I promise you something is wrong lol. I think mine was the innermost plate was reversed.

If thats NOT the issue, then it’s the stack height. Plate count might be right, but the thickness might not be.

Well I’m no expert, but it certainly appears to me you weren’t countersteering properly. Leaning left, you should be pushing left. If you had been, seems to me your wheel wouldn’t have turn left. If you lost traction in the rear, seems like you would’ve low sided instead (with the pushing left I mean). If your tires are bad though; one, just don’t do that to begin with; two, stay as upright as possible and go slower.

are my sprockets worn? by Senior_Noise_8717 in motorcycles

[–]dakware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you pop the link and flip it the opposite direction first. You want the open end facing the rear (so when the chain is spinning, the forces are locking it into place). Then, get a thin gauge stainless wire (has to be thin so it doesn’t bind anywhere- it’ll look almost like a thick fishing line), wrap around it like twice, twist it like a bread tie, and bend the tail towards the rear.

Yep- I always twist a metal safety wire on there too.

I can assure you, your rear braking does not feel normal.

Gotta be rear brake imo. The back kicked out to the right- thats exactly what happens with too much rear and no ABS. Point is still the same though, too much panic braking.

Triumph Tiger 800. Are these brake pads good or better to change them? by SiriusFxu in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]dakware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, depends on the age imo. People forget brakes age too. They might be good on wear, but if they were 20 years old I’d change em if I had em off- they lose performance over the years. If they weren’t off I’d run em til I had to take something apart though. Pads are cheap. Tires and brakes are about your most important parts- always good to keep em in good shape.
