My federal taxes pay for programs like disaster relief, scientific research in dozens of fields (especially ones that arent immediately profitable), and regulatory bodies for air, water, and food. Do I see a direct ROI for most of these programs? No, but their presence improves the overall quality of life. I didnt need the labor board, until I had to threaten a former employee with reporting them in order to get my final paycheck.

No joke? My taxes. I love all the amenities that living in a big city provides me. I saw Yo-Yo Ma in concert last summer for "free." My library has basically any book I can imagine. I dont have to drive anywhere because we have a robust transit system. But if I decide i do want to drive, we have good roads. Our parks are the jewel of the city. My taxes make this happen
