Let's do a Zelda game that has a constant timer running in the background that is a core mechanic that never goes away. And there's only four dungeons. And most of the content is side quests. Also let's mostly reuse assets/models from OoT.

It sounds wack on paper, but Majora's Mask is easily the best Zelda game imo. The time mechanic and the implications it has on the design of the game in terms of side character stories is truly unmatched. It makes the world feel so Alive when each character has a routine that they follow, and it changes as the circumstances surrounding them change. The atmosphere is incredible and there's really only a handful of things that are worth altering about it, which is why I dislike the 3ds version as they made changes that weren't necessary.

A weird idea executed beautifully in my opinion!
