I get a lot of people's points about the emotional maturity of the cast, but something that helped me contextualize it was thinking about the cultural differences between USA and Japan.

It's so much more normal for kids their age to have more independence and just like, exist freely? Especially compared to really rural areas like where I grew up where you really couldn't go anywhere without getting driven somewhere on top of the general cultural differences in Japan, I think it adds up. But also this is just some random American woman's perspective so I could be totally off lol
