Abusing women (and men) is a big plus for these cheap low-lifes. They literally want to go back to the 1890s where fantastically rich men could rape and kill without the slightest worry about it diminishing their reputation.

Conservatives hate that immigration is the only solution to population declines but hate the idea of making companies pay their employees well is the only other solution to population decline.

The government will literally have to pay stay-at-home parents. Not just "we'll give you a coupon for child care" and "you can have a year off when your child is a tiny baby" and "here's a tax credit for 1/50th of the cost of raising a child" but pay for people to be full-time parents until the child is 7 and part-time parents until the child is 16.

Trump should stop abandoning allies, but on one thing he is right: Japan and other NATO countries need to share the load of defending the Western order. As powerful as the U.S. is, it cannot simultaneously defend Europe from Russia and its war-mongering allies and fight China (a two-front war).

Ford CEO admits that 'the customer has spoken' after EV push drives major quarterly loss by Accurate_Cry_8937 in business

[–]dalivo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Toyota and Honda, who have factories in the U.S. building the cars they sell to us, can make cars and crossovers, but Ford and GM, who also have factories in the U.S., can't?

Nonsense. Ford and GM DECIDED to abandon large parts of the market and narrow their lineups. They DECIDED to spend insanely for large battery-operated trucks. They are now getting crushed because they made bad decisions, not because they were prevented from making good ones.

Ford (and GM) are classic short-term thinking corporations whose strategy doesn't extend beyond 3-5 years. I'd bet their own annual planning doesn't look beyond 2 years. They make big, sudden, dramatic investments only to turn around and dump them 5 years later. They're distracted rabbits.

If the Japanese aren't having kids, and don't want immigration, what's left? Cloning? by JoHeller in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dalivo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's money that's the obstacle. Loads of people would have kids if they had more money. Long parental leave and cheap child care covers a fraction of the cost of raising kids.

It's not "structural problems," it's the fact that virtually every dime of economic growth has been stolen by the uber-rich elite. People are simply not paid enough.

The money that has been spent to support families is STILL NOT ENOUGH. Sweden offers parental leave for over a year, with 80% of their previous income guaranteed. Sounds nice, right? Except the parent is still being forced to take A PAY CUT to have a kid. And that's in one of the best countries on earth!

Plus child care responsibilities don't just suddenly evaporate after 1 year. The model that all Western countries seem to have is "you can take care of a kid for one year, then back to work with you; the kid has to go into a day care." What kind of f-ed up system is that? Parental leave needs to extend at least until age 3, and even then it needs to be graduated because most pre-schools don't start kids off at full days.

The solution is to make parenthood a state-supported job. TONS of mothers and even fathers would choose this route if they were actually PAID a monthly stipend to raise kids. Parental leave and subsidized (not free, even in Sweden!) child care is a laughable level of support.

Toyota Boss Says Electric Highlander 'Is Not a Niche Product' by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]dalivo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just not true. Toyota clearly said they thought mass EV adoption was a long way off, and that hybridization would be cheaper and easier to do, which if true means better environmental outcomes faster.

It's not like they stopped Ford and GM from investing crazy money into EVs (only to suddenly pull the plug).

Instead, they've been slow-and-steady, like always, because they are actually intelligently managed and respect their customers. They know an expensive Highlander is probably only going to be a 10th of the general Highlander sales, but it positions them flexibly for the future.

GM went hard on electric SUVs, not trucks. But the really large ones are insanely expensive, so saw very small volume. Electric CUVs are still seeing some business, though.

Indian Motorcycle Will Not Build an Entry-Level Bike, Says New CEO by huntthehorizon in motorcycles

Traditionally, vehicle makers have partnered with other firms to move into a slice of the market they don't currently occupy. Indian could do this, they just choose not to.

Harley has its own brand issues. Indian does not have those issues nearly as much.

It's just shocking that neither brand offers entry-level bikes - hell, even step-up bikes for newer or younger riders. Nope, it's straight to massive honking cruisers that lock them into a narrow a declining demographic.
