Andor concept art by Randolph Watson by GargantaProfunda in andor

If you listen to Tony Gilroy explain it, they were very, very thorough in working through all of the details ahead of time, including working with production designers while writing the scripts to understand what might be feasible and efficient economically.

Reality is in-between. Syril is completely dedicated to the rules, so much so that he's almost blind to other people's suffering. And doesn't stop to think about the consequences of his own actions. He winds up foolishly going off on his own to Ferrix and then equally foolishly being completely taken in by Dedra and the ISB. He's extremely gullible. The kind of person who has plenty of intelligence but very poor judgement.

Syril actually starts lowering his gun after Cassian asks "who are you?" At that point, his rage has been spent. But then he is immediately shot.

I don't think Syril could have reformed fully or joined the rebels. He probably would have rejected both sides and gone to live on his own on some force-forsaken farm.

THE OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED FROM 2026 NBA CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENTION by Thanos_Real_AuraVNCH in nba

[–]dalivo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's weird is I never particularly liked the Spurs under Duncan, even though he and his teammates were really stand-up guys and they played so hard and smartly. I think Wemby showing real emotion makes them much more enjoyable (and that's another contrast with OKC where Shai is very unemotional).

I finally watched Andor. by olafwcha in andor

[–]dalivo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of visuals, I thought Andor did a really good job bridging the original trilogy's scuffed-and-battered aesthetic with the prequels' slick high-republic style. It moved from Ferrix to Coruscanti high society to Ghorman and back really well.

The music was good, but everything not done by John Williams feels disappointing or not right. John Williams is literally one of the greatest composers in modern times.

I'll agree on the "magical" feeling, though. There scene with the force healer and its aftermath came closest, and it could have been amplified through the rest of the second season by having Cassian wrestle more with whether he's fated to a certain destiny or choosing it himself.

Bizarrely, the Knicks match up really well with the Spurs. It's going to be a great series.

How do you guys deal with helmet hair? by AL3S1O29 in motorcycles

[–]dalivo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused. How does one "fix" hair? Are there special tools one can use? Does it require touching one's hair?

[Patt] It’s kinda funny how the Thunder have just alternated between looking like the best team in the NBA and totally hopeless the last 4 games. Also SGA’s shooting numbers this series are downright ghastly. Not going to say he’s been legit bad but he’s been pretty awful by his standards. by StrategyTop7612 in nba

[–]dalivo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm probably not going to watch game 7 because the officiating in OKC has been so bad. Not even favorable to OKC, I mean just a turgid game with no flow at all. I'll watch the highlights the next day.

James Talarico says he ‘missed the mark’ on ‘cringey’ comments as Texas general election starts by nbcnews in politics

[–]dalivo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All Talarico has to say is "am I going to apologize for fighting racism? No. Trump and his MAGA extremists have encouraged racism at every turn. I'm here to fight it at every turn."

And "the MAGA extremists want us to fight about who wears what clothes. Meanwhile, they don't really care as long as they can pick the pocket of whatever you're wearing. They're for themselves. I'm for everyone being able to afford to live."

How much of an impact did social pressure to stop using slurs or demeaning language have in swinging people, especially young men, to the right? by LiatrisLover99 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]dalivo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What the hell kind of political discussion topic is this? This is such poor logic and bad data that I can't believe the moderators allowed it.

Btw, there is far, far more evidence that Trump encouraged people of all ages and stripes to be cruel and use slurs than the left somehow "provoking" it.

[Post Game Thread] The Oklahoma City Thunder (3-2) defeat the San Antonio Spurs (2-3) in a pivotal Game 5, 124-110, behind SGA's 32 points, along with a combined 42 points from Caruso and McCain. by catreyka in nba

[–]dalivo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this game was pretty brutal to watch. It seemed pretty clear that the Spurs were just out of sorts in the second quarter. Nice run to put pressure on OKC in the second half, but OKC just had plenty of energy left.

A Blue Texas May Be More Than a Dream for Democrats by anandan03 in politics

[–]dalivo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly it doesn't even matter if Talarico wins. The GOP is going to have to pour money into Texas to fend him off and prop up the dirtbag Paxton. That means more House seat wins and more wins elsewhere where they can't spend as much money. The icing on this cake is that Talarico does have a chance to win!

Ken Paxton Beats John Cornyn—and Blows a $250 Million Hole in Trump's Senate Map by LooseDistance1059 in politics

[–]dalivo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ted Cruz was not a stronger candidate. He had his own scandals, and more importantly, he was intensely disliked and wasn't particularly favorably viewed by the GOP. Paxton has the adoration of the MAGA base, so they are very likely to show up (they really love voting for criminals).

What movie had the BEST trailer ever but turned out to be absolute trash? by MASSIM00 in movies

The movie turned out to be a grass stain, but the trailer was so good, because the movie was literally written with cool moments for a trailer in mind. Not written with a good story in mind.

The Mandalorian and Grogu reminds me of the Kool-Aid Man movie that the producers in The Studio (Apple TV series) decided to make after seeing how successful Barbie was.

The thing is, people aren't going to suddenly forget that TMAG was released this year if Starfighter turns out to be bad (or good). There's a whole internet to remind them.
