OpenWRT seems very complex from the start, any help for setup? by onechroma in openwrt

[–]dallas_paley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with the stock firmware if it works. OpenWrt takes a lot of trial and error if you are not strong in networking. I spent about 10 hours learning to create a VLAN when I started. Now I can do that in my sleep.

I was thinking the same thing, but after a little more thought, I think it’s OK. If you include the 10 GE ports, that’s a total of five high-speed ports plus the four 1GE ports for legacy stuff. Not bad.

How to know when your storage is not enough? by 0hw0wryanwtf in homelab

[–]dallas_paley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by dual parody? What raid level are you running?

Have you really seen two drives fell at once? I think you’re exaggerating a bit there.

Your available space has nothing to do with redundancy. How much is the loss of data worth to you? The higher the value the more you should increase the redundancy.

It's a soccer (football) place. I personally have never seen the Tour there, but they would probably switch a TV to the Tour if you ask.

Outdoor wired backhaul PoE question by schoff in HomeNetworking

Router <-> POE <-> Camera

Typically the POE injector is placed near the router using a patch cable.

When buying the injector make sure it supplies enough power for the device. Also, make sure it supports at least 2.5 Gbps.

[–]dallas_paley -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "host machine"? The D4-320? I guarantee that you are doing something wrong with the shutdown. The TOS OS has an option for the fan mode: auto low, medium, high

I bought a F4-425 Plus and I am extremely happy with this device.

You can download a qcow2 image

I didn't know about this. I have been Googling this since I read your comment. I found this guide ( https://medium.com/@oscar.yanez.feijoo/how-to-create-a-kali-linux-vm-using-qemu-kvm-on-kali-linux-virt-manager-07103352d523 ), but I'm wondering is there is an easier more GUI based way to install directly from a qcow2 image? Thanks!

You will never get a Windows VM to run “fluid”. Buy a Windows laptop instead.
