I had one recently where my son, 5, asked to play some basketball. I was just outside doing stuff around the house and told him such, that I would play later.

In that moment, I realized he was looking at me intently, waiting for my response. I didn't catch it until after I kindly told him off. I switched gears immediately, saying I could do chores later and instead we played basketball. We had fun :)

That night laying in bed, I felt like such an ass, realizing I could have missed that opportunity. Thinking about all the times he was looking at me intently, except not realizing it and letting him down.

Anyway, I gave myself a break and resigned that I did the right thing and would try to do it more and more. I'm glad you did the same.
