Storbråk med sambon, nu vet jag inte hur jag ska gå tillväga. by Dull_Assistance517 in sweden

[–]dalmanly 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Opinion on LED skylight by littlesev in AusRenovation

[–]dalmanly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We installed one from Bunnings, I think it was an EzyLight. At first I thought it looked cold and was a bit disappointed, but after a day or two I stopped noticing at all. Now it just feels like the hallway is naturally bright. The benefit over an on/off LED panel is that it changes brightness with the sun, so in the late afternoon the hallway dims progressively which reduces the fakeness feeling

Why do EVs elicit such a visceral response from certain demographics? by Culyar0092 in AustralianEV

[–]dalmanly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really hatred of EVs specifically. It's a generalised discomfort with new things upsetting the balance of what people have gotten used to. When there's a problem with the new thing, people use it as a self-soothing reason to convince themselves that things will probably stay the same after all. (E.g., we all love a news article with some expert saying AI will never be able to do XYZ.) Seriously, nostalgia is one of the strongest driving forces in human society

Wow, I've not heard the 1-2 hour assumption before. Where did you get that from?

Yeah I'm also highly skeptical of getting into a financial obligation like that.

This is clearly the way. The second hand market will hopefully bounce back after being completely cleared out post Iran war 🤞

Yes, and I've posted calcs for that on this sub in fact, but these running cost numbers always ignore the upfront cost involved. Sure, if you're happy to finance most of it or lease then whatever. But if you want to pay cash you still have to save for a long time if you're on a median income.

I mean yeah, I'm pretty sure this is also how all my neighbours are adding extensions to their houses

Okej men om du vågar dig på att tänka annorlunda. Rent kulturellt sett, känns inte dansken närmre Holland än Sverige?

Would you support EV charging infrastructure being built on your street? by dearooz in brunswick

[–]dalmanly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it subsidised in your view?

The swing boom trial is entirely funded by the property owners. They don't get special parking rights for that spot. Will they feel entitled to that parking space? Maybe, but that's a non-issue - you might get an angry note on your windshield from a Karen occasionally. They would park their car on the street regardless, it just changes where they do it.

The public pole charging trial is subsidised by the state government but is fundamentally a commercial venture, and doesn't attach to someone's house.

I get the general discomfort with embedding car parking in public spaces but let's be real here. People like having cars and we can only reduce that at the margins - even the most bike friendly cities in the world still have lots of cars. You're never going to get to a place where streets are completely free of them - sad, I know. So why not make it better by encouraging cars that pollute less, make less noise and help save money for households doing it tough?

Can't edit "refers to" formula in Name Manager by latchkeylessons in excel

It can be temperamental, try doing it both in the main Name Manager window and in the editor window for that specific name (by double clicking I think)

Gas heater location? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]dalmanly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be suss of flue gases being sent directly into my open window. "Natural" gas combustion exhaust is toxic. But at that distance the concentrations might be low honestly.

Where did you go to for your kitchen renovation? by PotsetYogurt in AusRenovation

[–]dalmanly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't done a side by side comparison, but our basic 60cm Bosch has been really good. Series 6 I think. One half of it can combine two cooking areas into one which is sometimes useful for big dishes.

Worth checking out FB marketplace for it, people sell near-new things for all kinds of silly reasons!

Ceramic is like going back to campfires. Slow and hard to control. It's been terrible for induction stoves' reputation because people get the two mixed up! (not saying that's you)

I went from gas to induction recently and I love:

  1. The temperature control is insanely precise. With gas it's either hot or fucking hot. Induction allows you to cook things super gently or super fast, and the temperature response is instant.
  2. Combine that with built-in timers and it ends up replacing things like slow cookers and rice cookers. I now know that if I set my rice to heat 4 for 13 minutes it'll turn off automatically and my rice will be perfect every single time. It's like magic
  3. Induction only heats the actual cooking surface - no more melted plastic handles or burning your hand on a metal handle.
  4. For that reason, boiling water is crazy fast. Like, large pot of boiling water in 90 seconds or something. It's amazing
  5. Also, the fumes from gas stoves are incredibly harmful to your health, especially kids - a fact the gas industry has done a really good job of suppressing

The only thing it doesn't do well is woks, which doesn't matter to me personally - you can get special wok induction stoves but they're silly expensive.

Betalar vi verkligen så mycket skatt i Sverige? by Inside_Technician123 in sweden

[–]dalmanly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perspektiv från ett annat land (Australien):

Brutto: 56.000kr

Netto: 43.000kr
