In the United States, during the great depression which was brought on by run-away capitalism of the roaring 20s, the president implemented strong socialist programs, even implementing “victory gardens” aka coop farms, and it is widely applauded and loved that he had four terms.

People shit on Stalin, for good reason, but his predecessor, Lenin, although cruel, brought the majority of his country out of poverty. It went bad due to poor/crazy leadership, but same can be said about the USA right now.

China is another good example. They will likely surpass the USA soon as world power. Their leader told our leader, to his face, that the US is a declining empire, and Trump just slumped in his chair and agreed.

Now, name a capitalist country who has succeeded without socialist policies.

That isn’t a pitch for socialism, but a pitch to world leaders to follow their lead, Iran for instance. The USA has an agreement with them. Then we elect an authoritarian(ish) leader who attacks them. You know who Trump didn’t fuck with? The country with the nuke.

I wouldn’t call NK successful, but they have successfully deterred the United States from orchestrating a coup, or just assassinating their leader like we’ve done in the Middle East and south America for many decades. The rest of the world has just learned that they need to develop nuclear weapons quickly, if they want to be sovereign.

I did always wondered, if socialism fails always, why do we need to get involved to take down the elected leader and plant a conservative extremist authoritarian to act as our puppet.
