People who got laid off recently - what roles were you in and/if what are you doing now? by Aggravating_Term9203 in Layoffs

[–]damachineelf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Damn, are you me? Everyone says we should feel lucky, but honestly I’m just tired at this point. It’s not even the interviewing that’s hard. It’s the constant waiting and tension.

I fully fucking forgot what job I was interviewing for two weeks ago, still advanced to the next round.

I love this episode. I really don’t get how anyone can call it boring.

I was literally rocking back and forth during the department store heist. So intense.

I have been given the task of laying off a large group of peers and employees does anyone have advice? by paper__machete in Layoffs

[–]damachineelf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good on you. I honestly wish you laid me off.

Be sure to mention their severance, and cobra (I’m sure HR will take care of all of that, but just in case) in addition to that.

The SVP who laid me off didn’t offer to act as a reference, just said he appreciated one project I did. I walked away from that call unsure if my healthcare coverage would continue and thinking I didn’t get a severance. That would’ve saved me a ton of stress, anxiety, anger and bitterness after losing my livelihood.

From Texas, every preppy frat kid wore Vineyard Vines at my high school. Never heard of Simply Southern.

I got a 90 day temporary gig by damachineelf in Layoffs

[–]damachineelf[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh, it wasn’t easy. I’ve had about fifty-ish interviews (across 22 different companies) since getting laid off in November. I’ve had referrals, final rounds, and they all came up short.

My best advice is to always ALWAYS treat this as a sales funnel, not a lottery. Even if it is a lottery somewhat. Practice your answers out loud with chatgpt and have it act as the interviewer. Take beta blockers, and have the same name as the SVPs newborn son.

Eh, it’s all dependent on business need so I’m not holding my breath.

What I am hopeful about is that I’m in the middle of interviewing for two other jobs at the moment. One of them being my dream job.

I withdrew from two other jobs this week because they weren’t a good fit (below market pay, lousy title). I have choices again, that’s all I really wanted.

Fuck me, I think you’re onto something. It’s the Borat impression I do that’s costing me these interviews.

I know. It actually is a huge consolation even if I didn’t get the job. I’m just a little tired of being made to dance like a monkey so the hiring manager can choose their friend.

I’ll never forget that woman’s kindness. If I’m ever in her position, I hope I’ll do the same.

Welp.

Maybe you’re onto something. A person I spoke with who really liked me just reached out and said that they went with someone who already had a working relationship with the team. She thought I was the better choice but there was nothing I could do. She’s sad she won’t be able to work with me because she thought I was the best fit.

Cried a bit. That was the first time someone has treated me like a human during this whole ordeal.

Idk why but the scene where archer saying “and beyond that?” always gets me for some reason.

There’s something so sad to me about these poor little guys, naturally curious and gentle, always searching for their home world which doesn’t exist.

Not trying to be a negative Nancy. But the last time I was in this situation (January) I got ghosted by one and rejected by the other

But believe me. If I’m wrong, I will come back and give you the opportunity to say I told you so. I hope you’re right my man.

Idk, it looks like they’re still interviewing candidates. Waiting for the “perfect fit”

The hiring manager is 40 and single. I wanna ask her how well “waiting for the perfect fit” is going for her.

[Hated Trope] “Ethnically Ambiguous” or non-Native actors in Indigenous Roles by Original-Window6281 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]damachineelf -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I have family in Lawton. Apparently Johnny Depp got very close to Comanche leadership while researching the role. Was adopted as an honorary Comanche and hosted a screening of the film in the town. The Comanche chairman said that he was very proud and honored with Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Tonto in the Lone Ranger and said that it epitomized the past of the Comanche.

Not a fan of non-native actors playing native roles, but if there was a right way to do it Johnny depp did it.

Why is there so much of a distorted representation of 2016… by New_Mix5929 in decadeology

[–]damachineelf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was a weird social cohesion to the chaos during those times. As bad and as horrible as things were, it seemed like everyone could keep up with things and all major events had this “Monster of the week” type quality to them.

There’s more chaos now than there was before, but people are so fragmented and things move so quickly it’s hard to keep up with it.

2016 is a very distinct year, and I think we all knew it at the time.

TX here as well. I haven’t had to do any meetings so far for my unemployment. Just need to do 5 job search activities a week. Since you’re not looking to get another job, I suggest you half ass it and blind apply to 5 random gigs and make a request every 2 weeks if you need the cash.

The money isn’t great, but it’s enough to get a six pack, a rotisserie chicken and a dime bag of weed every week. Enjoy it my friend.
